My back up is the searches I do online for the flights I'm interested in. Whilst EF would no doubt be handy, it's not the be all and end all. The QF website ought to be equally effective if not as efficient.
As for cabin size, your right, they aren't huge, but I still think more seats could be made available. I have found instances where no JASA's were available despite discount J being for sale.
The QF website can not be as efficient as EF as you can't ask the QF website to tell you how many seats are available.
Also I do love that your back up is the seats you search for... what are your criteria? School holidays? Two adults and two kids? Four adults? Nine adults? T-300 days? T-50 days?
