QANTAS to launch their own credit card in tie-up with Citibank

Would be very surprised if it did. In all the cards I've used the annual fee has never counted towards obtaining the sign-up bonus. Some other spending is excluded as well.

I'm finally on board with this card. Seemed a reasonably straightforward application, got a call a couple of days afterwards asking for previous address and double checking a couple of details, SMS confirming acceptance 5 minutes later. Now just to wait for card to arrive. Easy 60k for $200.

I was recently told that the revolutionary "supplementary cardholder" feature should become available "on August 23 or possibly sooner".

So you're telling me that I'll be able to have a card, for my account, in someone else's name?!

Signs that a product was launched while still in Alpha...

The Qantas Premier Card saga continues... I figured I should 'do the right thing' and sign up to Foxtel Now to watch GOT but they're not accepting my Qantas Premier Card. They're saying that it's been issued outside of Australia and I need to use a different card!! Has anyone else seen this before?

Yup, well similar. I think I posted a few pages ago. The card has been refused by a couple of internet payment gateways who don't recognise it as being in the valid range of Mastercard numbers.

I haven't tried them again. But it is something I expect would be worked out fairly quickly as the gateways are supplied with an updated list of number ranges.

Has anyone else had trouble using the card in normal bricks and mortar retail businesses in Australia? My wife has just had hers rejected at 3 out 4 merchants this morning - a local grocery, a fishmonger's and Baker's Delight. But in between it was accepted at another retail outlet. Over the past week it has also been rejected at two other outlets, but not most others. She is nowhere near her credit limit. So it seems that it just doesn't work at certain merchants, and if so I have never come across that problem before - despite having gone through a lot of different cards from all sorts of providers over the years. In fact, we have both had other Citibank-issued cards as our main (non-Amex) cards for the past number of years and never had any trouble like this.

Known issue noted by others on this tread. It's to do with the card having the same number sequence as TD Canada trust

Ok, weird. I can't find the posts you're referring to that report this as being the explanation for the problem. So any idea if this will be fixed any time soon? Or ever?

I haven't had any problems with any bricks and mortar retailers (BP, Bunnings, Coles, Woolworths and a few pubs) with my new card.

My mistake, it's noted in the current credit card promotions thread for this card

Ok, thanks for the tip. I just read the other thread. However, the problem seems to be that the BIN is associated with a foreign bank, hence certain online transactions are being declined (as in some cases online systems require an Australian credit card). One person on the other thread reported that the card wouldn't work via Paywave at a café, but it did work when inserted. Other than that, all of the issues seem to be online. My question relates to use at local bricks and mortar retailers - to my knowledge, there would be no problem using a foreign credit card at those retailers, so it shouldn't matter if their system thinks the card is foreign. Furthermore, my wife found that it was declined both via Paywave and when inserted and used with the PIN. As such, this seems like it might be a different problem. I've told her to phone Qantas Money about it and see what they say.

Could be a faulty chip which is generating an out-of-sequence or unusual Transaction Certificate (the hash you sometimes see printed on EFTPOS receipts), as contactless is linked into the chip. If there's an error there, the bank won't think the payment request is genuine and so the system may automatically decline it. If you get nowhere with Citibank/QF Money, try calling up again and say that the card is physically damaged (cracked or something) and can they please re-issue it with the same number (which keeps any direct debits working). If that fixes the issue, you've found your problem. :)

Does anyone know how soon after the $3000 required spend do the bonus points post to the QFF account?

My experience is as follows:

I applied, was approved, card arrived, and I was charged the annual fee the next day - before I had made a purchase on the card
I spent $3k+ during the next billing cycle, points and bonus points posted on second statement, a month and a day after receiving the card.

as always YMMV
