Qantas to move to new Perth Airport terminal, expand Perth hub

If BA, LH, VS and AF fail to launch competition on Sunrise routes due to lack of initiative or different commercial interests, its their fault that nonstop between Australia and Europe is/will be a monopoly.

Also, is an Australian company having a monopoly in an international market necessarily 'bad' for our country and its economy? Yes, you and me may be paying more, but since the corporation is Australian-owned and based (with a vast majority Australian workforce), the benefits of a QF monopoly to the overall Australian economy outweighs the downsides. Overall good for the country.
I really didn't think you could come up with even sillier arguments but you have.
And I asked a question of you that you haven't answered. Have you flown on any other International airlines than Qantas.

You are forgetting the very important role the ME airlines provide for freight which QF is unable to cover and would not be able to provide a service for so you would see massive price hikes on goods freighted in

Correlation does not equal causation. EY could have pulled out of PER for reasons other than QF doing PER-LHR. Competition from EK and QR for one, more profitable places to put aircraft etc. QF may be a factor, but the sole reason? Well.. EY knows more than us.
EY left quite a few destinations at the same time, including principle cities of San Francisco, Dallas and Edinburgh in Scotland. I don't believe for one moment Qantas having a direct flight to London made any difference to this move in direction for Perth. They had to make cuts and Perth was one of them probably for reasons that involves crewing, night stopping and yields generally.

But let’s get back to Perth. How’s that going for QF10 today 😀. Personally, I would prefer a stop in Doha rather than Karratha, but that’s just me doing me again.

I’m slightly disappointed the LHR pax didn’t have a night in KTA, would have been an eye opener for a few on board no doubt, although I actually don’t mind KTA, certainly beats PHE any day of the week…..The pier hotel would certainly be a true blue experience not to be repeated

Financial issues and overexpansion not withstanding....Reality for EY was the A330 was an uncompetitive product in the market, and the B787 was just too much capacity for the market.

QF9/10 would've had zero impact on EY's decision making IMO

It will happen before Melbourne Airport gets a cho cho
That was one of the many reasons why I decided to move out of Melbourne and settle in Brisbane.
But now I am frustrated that our cho cho terminates in Varsity lakes, just shy of OOL and wouldn't be there until at least 2040.
Its criminal not co connect your two international airports into system.

My argument is against the crazy proposition that they will decimate (or words to that effect) the ME carriers' business in Australia.

It may seem like a crazy proposition, but it is just commercial proselytisation - which is all part of the game and necessary to carve a negotiating position.

You do realise that other airlines out there do have a better hard product than QF and I can probably think of a dozen who have better J seating than QF

I would appreciate it if you could kindly provide a list. I'm always keen to explore new products and experiences, as they are constantly evolving.

And don’t get me started on the woeful food onboard QF

Agreed. Fresh ideas are badly needed. The same catering theme is constantly repeated, and the absence of imagination is just lazy management.

I recently flew a BCN to MAD (a short flip of the paella dish) on IB, which was a better meal in flavour and quality than many on QFI.

Been following this thread with some bemusement. I never had any desire to pay an absurd price to fly BNE-PER-LHR and take as long as I would if I had a layover in Asia somewhere with the bonus of no 19 hour sectors. I have no more desire to pay an absurd QF price to enjoy a 19 hour sector if it’s to somewhere else in Europe either.

I actually don’t think this will work out particularly well for QF. There might be some increase in overseas inbound tourism to WA, and great for WA if that happens, but that is currently only about 10% of inbound tourism. People will still go where they want to go, and then decide how to get there.

Actually it is possible the in bound passengers to PER decrease once SYD and MEL get Sunrise services to LHR as virtually no one from the East Coast will want to travel to PER as they do now.

Indeed, it is the worst airport to transit in OZ, and the redevelopment may take longer than currently scheduled. Perth should focus on regional travel options. New planes will mean the sandpit can be avoided, but I will always enjoy an Asian stopover enroute to Europe.

Sandpit...looks more like flooded swamp yesterday and today...,🤣

The same thing was said in 2018 before PER-LHR launched. Turned out to be QF’s most profitable route in its history. What’s there to suggest that these further expansions won’t yield the same results?

With the exorbitant price they charge you would hope they are profitable.
Id imagine the further expansions would also be just as profitable

If you're going QF to QF it's a million times better than SYD. I need another airline (ie, T1 or T2) then it's about as rubbish as SYD except without the massive queues.

I really can’t help but think, like so many other threads , there’s a degree of trolling going on here.

That aside prey tell where are all the aircraft coming from to serve Europe non stop by 2032 from 4 Australian cities in addition to New York? It takes a lot of planes to service 20 hr routes (2 per route to serve daily). Don’t recall QF ordering all that many.

12 A350s is enough to fly the following routes

SYD-LHR
SYD-JFK
SYD-CDG
MEL-LHR
BNE-LHR
PER-LHR

By 2032.

I’d be surprised if Brisbane didn’t have direct flights to London when they host the Olympic Games.

SYD-SIN-LHR would have to switch to a standard A350, along with other A380 routes as that aircraft is retired. There will always be a group that would still prefer the Singapore stopover. It would require QF purchasing another slot in LHR, or flying 1 or 2 flights into Gatwick instead like what Asian and ME carriers do. Considering they once flew 4 747s a day into London, I wouldn’t consider it unreasonable or ambitious for them to fly 5 A350s a day.
