Does anyone know if you can make the minimum spend, collect the points, pay off the balance and then initiate a balance transfer?

Hello all, I followed an AFF referral link for this card and it has just arrived :D

Below is my referral link for the Amex Ultimate, you get 110,000 (+ 2,500) QFF points after you meet the spend requirements. I will get 20,000.

Many thanks in advance to anyone that chooses to use my link.

Sorry Steady but your link takes me to the Explorer version of the Amex card with MR points. I'd prefer to stick with QFF points (the Devil I know) as I want to again do a RTW Award booking - so please let me know if you have another referral link to the Qantas Ultimate card. How do you generate these referrer links anyway? Seems like a good thing for me to do too ;-)

to generate your own link, log into your account and on the top ribbon select 'rewards' then on the right side of the options that drop down you will see 'refer friends and earn rewards'

I have done this with a bankwest card before. I'll have a look now. Remember that amex charge a 1% fee on balance transfers though, that may make the option less attractive to you.

Edit: according to the full balance transfer terms and conditions, this is not possible.

This promotional balance transfer interest rate is only available to new American Express customers who request a balance transfer at the time they submit their American Express Credit Card application. Card Members who currently hold or held a Card issued by American Express Australia Limited in the last 60 days are ineligible for this balance transfer offer.

Hi Steady, used your referral link application was automatically approval so you should get 20k referral points (I assume after I've meant spend criteria).

Hi all,
I am really enjoying being part of this community - and this is one of the best card deals going.. Just have to work out exactly what qualifies as a spend to get my free flight !
If anyone is considering applying - it would be great if you could use my link -
(Up to) 112k points for you, and 20k for me
Thanks

Hi Steady, you should be receiving 20,000 points soon. Thanks for your help and advice.

For others who were worried, like I was, that my bank-issued combined Mastercard and Amex (that are part of my NAB Choice Home Loan package) would make me ineligible for the 100,000 points there is a specific statement on the application form

"Do you already own an American Express card (Don't tick this if you have a bank-issued combined card)"

So it is obvious that my NAB Amex is not considered to be an American Express card for the purposes of gaining the 100,000 points. At least that is what they indicate so hopefully all will work out and I'll have the points in three months time!

Hello all you Points Hounds and Altitude Jockeys,

Firstly, Merry Christmas to you all. This community remains one of the best forums I am a member of, and the amount of information I've been able to glean from it, and the friends made on here is First Class.

Secondly, considering the point hauls on offer currently, this Amex Qantas Ultimate Rewards card is one of the most attractive out there. I have it on some authority that these 'mega-point' deals will be phased out within the next year. Regulatory reasons. So what does that mean to us all? Let's make hay whilst the sun shines! The good news is there will always exist a will to maximise points or status, and if there is a will, there is a way - and the way is often discovered on this forum. So check back often!

Thinking laterally. Qantas is currently running quite an attractive (not the best I've ever seen, but a decent) 5 points per dollar on vouchers. How can you maximise this deal? Here's a good start.....

Get this card: http://amex.com.au/refer/shelblcLaG?CPID=100195694

Read the T&Cs and scroll down to the BLUE coloured APPLY NOW box at the bottom of the page.
then use this card to purchase the QF Vouchers. for a $1K voucher you should nab yourself 8000 points. Not a bad haul at 12.5c per point, then don't forget you're going to earn points for the travel flown on the voucher too. Triple dip!

Couple this with a few Qantas epiQure purchases and a hotel over the break and you're well and truly sailing.... to a premium cabin flight next trip.

Using my referral link: http://amex.com.au/refer/shelblcLaG?CPID=100195694

BEFORE January 30, 2017
(still got plenty of time folks) you get 112,500 sign up bonus points and I get a 20k point bump too (full disclosure). A pretty attractive haul, considering you're now close to a RTW business class flight for 280k points and with any luck, I'll raise a glass of champagne and toast you as my neighbour at the front of the plane.
It will cost you $450 p.a. for this card, but this offset by 1x FREE domestic return flight each year, 2x AMEX Lounge passes and the insurances for TRAVEL; both International & Domestic and purchase-protection make it well-worth the annual outlay).

Always appreciate you ladies and gentlemen. Let's keep smiling and learning together. Onwards & Upwards!
Happy Holidays!
