Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

If you don't mind me asking what is you status compared to your colleagues

At least 3 were SG, two of whom would be WP at the end of the flight. I'm still 400 credits short. One other was WP, but due to booking late, he was stuck back in Y. So I figured compared to the 3 SG, I'd be lower on the list.

Appreciate your reply shbap, looking at MarcB and your data the upgrade angels provide magic to delight us all.

Unsuccessful request: J-F QF1 for 2 WP. Request made in March 2017 for flight in Jan 2018.

At T-7Days, 2WP1 seats seem to be allocated with a remainder of 6 seats.

At T-48hrs - 2 seats further allocated (assuming WP)

At T-26hrs - 1 seat further allocated

At ~T-23hrs - 1 seat further allocated, remaining 2 seats (seat map) but seat availability showing F1

Dec 31 Qf 95 MEL-LAX
2x WP unsuccessful Y+ to J
3x PS unsuccessful Y to Y+, and unsuccessful Y to J

Never got a text stating requests had been declined either.
As an aside not a fan of 787 Y+

Fingers crossed may get better statistics on journey home later this week.

I think you only get a text if successful.

Hi Spieck

Any chance you can give a review on the seat in the following post?

Qantas 787 reviews J - Y+ and Y

I saw this posted on Facebook ealier this week:

I think the flight was a domestic connection after an international inbound.

More WP failed requests

2 x WP Y+ to J QF 94 (LAX -MEL) Jan 16
3 x PS Y to J (or Y+) same flight

Also failed QF 683 (ADL- MEL) Jan 18
2 x WP
3 x PS (separate PNR)

So far 0% upgrade success since becoming WP
( reckon upgrade success was over 60% when SG)

Not sure if it matters, but I am also LTG and other WP is only 900SCs from LTG. I have heard that QF has rankings within each status level, not sure if this was at play in our case. I was watching QF8 seat map prior to our upgrade and noted that only one other seat became vacant in PE at that time - which led me to believe that only one other person received and upgrade.

Just an aside, I just realised that QF get to double dip when upgrading pax. OK, so I'm slow on the uptake.

If Mr J (who has paid for J using cash) gets upgrade to F; QF earned J cash & upgrade points.

If Mr W (who has paid for W using cash) gets upgrade to J; QF earned W cash & upgrade points.

If Mr Y (who has paid for Y using cash) gets upgrade to W; QF earned Y cash & upgrade points.

Now QF also get to sell the Y seat all over again and possibly earn Y cash.

So QF potentially get cash from selling J, W & Y x2 and points for upgrades x3 for four seats on their aircraft.

Good game of musical chair for everyone as far as I can see.

Given those upgrades happen close in to travel (relatively) with the earliest being a week out then the chances of people buying last minute Y tix on long haul are not that high, but an airline might hold a J seat back for last minute high yield J business travel (I'm thinking of a route like LAX or LHR) though I suppose anything can happen on any particular flight

Still waiting for W-J upgrade request for 2 pax (one of which is WP) on QF1 at T-34...
EF lists seat availability at J4 C0 and seat map has 3 open seats.

Now at T-32 for W-J upgrade request on QF1. Seat map still shows 3 open seats and availability is at J4 C2. Clearly, QF are holding out for last-minute ticket purchases.
Don't you just love the QFF programme when trying to use your points?

QF 117 (20/1) - W -> J
didn't have enough miles (burned it all on a J ticket Europe to AKL) so did a bid upgrade
10000 miles + 305 NZD, accepted at T-23

also got a seat in the F cabin yay
