Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Unsuccessful +1 PY-J on QF12. Business was completely full.

Yet oddly enough got more sleep than on the way over in Business, fell asleep straight after takeoff and slept for 7 hours straight instead of 5 on the way over. It is always easier going west instead of east - plus the 3 hour delay (from 10.30pm departure to 1.30am) helped me fall asleep.

Unsuccessful upgrade request from W to J for QF1 (to LHR) on Jan 21 as WP. Tickets originally booked in Mar 2017.
QF have the honour of NOT flying me to Europe in J or F for the first time in 8 years. This was my first time giving QF a go to LHR as well (and it will be my last, as the upgrade lottery is too unpredictable). Despite that, I was quite impressed with the Premium Economy product and service on the A380. Having the exit row made a huge difference as well.

QF 118 29/1 sucess W - J
system automatically gave me 11B as well

tried to get a seat in first cabin but no luck. 1-5A are occupied, as are 4 seats on the right side. 5 are blocked according to expertflyer (rather than occupied) so I guess I'll try my luck at the airport

31/1/18, QF118 HKG-SYD, W to J successful at T-28h as a PS. HKG lounge crawl here I come!

The upgrade fairy has been very kind to me... 3 out of 3 now! Twice as NB, once as PS.

3/2/18 QF880 MEL-OOL Y to J successful at T-72h 4min as WP. 24hrs earlier there were only 2 seats taken in J so was fairly hopeful of getting the upgrade at some stage.

25/03/18 - SYD-ADL Y to J successful at T-84 days.

Never realised that QF did upgrades so far in advance.

25/03/18 - SYD-ADL Y to J successful at T-84 days.

Never realised that QF did upgrades so far in advance.

Domestic is usually immediately successful if there is classic J availability - so theoretically can be close to a year in advance.

Successful point upgrade requests fulfilled immediately after booking (all DSC's):
13 Feb QF656 ADL/BNE (17,500)
21 Feb QF476 PER/MEL (25,000)
21 Feb QF636 MEL/BNE (17,500)

Great use of points from my perspective - they were starting to burn a hole in my pocket.

Upgrades on request:
18 Feb QF621 BNE/MEL
18 Feb QF481 MEL/PER

Hoping they come through closer to T-24 as I have received previously (as a Pleb Silver these days)

UNSUCCESSFUL 2x Y to J (or PY) - QF26 HND-SYD on 25/2. (I am Qantas Club Bronze). Plane full of skiers. Luckily had JAL Sakura Lounge access at HND.

However my parents were SUCCESSFUL 2x Y to J - QF28 SCL-SYD on 23/2 (also Qantas Club Bronze).

As expected, above upgrades on request were denied. Damn that was hard to fly back in whY. So pleased that the return was in J.
