Qantas Wine latest offering

Up thread, I had good epiQure pass, but now it's time for a fail.

First order on Mrs_O's account had issues from the second I ordered as the 2000 bonus points for the Penfolds Autumn Riesling 2013 didn't even show up in the basket or the order confirmation. She sent an email and got the standard copy and paste response of wait 6 weeks. Well, 6 weeks has gone by and no bonus points for the Riesling and no 2000 bonus points for her first dozen.

Time to PM the ever helpful Red Roo, I feel.

I don't think your having much luck when it comes to food from Qantas, be it missing points from wine or missing breakfast in international J , you must be thinking about TAA?

Ha ha, well spotted. I actually hadn't made the food link. I knew this epiQure order was going to be a difficult one from the get go, when the shopping cart failed to show the bonus points for the Pensfold.

That said, I have just had success with the new restaurant programme. Points credited without any intervention at all, so it's not all bad news :). Oh and the food was really very good. Vanitas at the Versace on the GC. I highly recommend it.

Huge fail but decent service recovery from Epiqure.
About a month ago, I email to ask if they were getting any more stock of the (sold out) 2010 Bin 389 @ $69.99 - this was the best price I could find at the time.
I got an email a few days later to inform me that they don't know if they will, but thanks for asking anyway.
I took it as a likely no - and left it at that.

A couple of days later I get a call (unsolicited) saying "we know you wanted some 2010 Bin 389 and have now come across 5 bottles" and offered them to me at the same price. I gladly accepted and gave my payment details.
The following week there is no email or cc charge so I ring up to check the status. I then get told that there are now only two bottles left  and if I would still like them at the same price. I say yes (obviously they took them and gave them to someone more important, ha) and the order goes through.
When it arrives, I open the box to find two bottles of 2010 Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz! Obviously not what I wanted.
I ring up to find out if they can send me what I ordered in the first place.
They get back to me - no go. None of the 2010 left. They can offer me the 2011 Bin 389, but that is on sale at LL for $56 in a half dozen. I ask if they can offer anything else, so they ask me what I would like. On the website the only wine I am interested in around that price range is the 2010 St Hallett Old Block Shiraz. I ask for that. They say yes - and are willing to throw in a 3rd bottle for free as a way of saying sorry and will pick up the Bin 28. I suggest to only be sent two of the St Hallett and me keep the Bin 28. They say yes.
The St Hallett were delivered yesterday.

I ended up buying 3x 2010 and 3x 2011 Bin 389 at DMs who price beat LL at $55.90/bottle. :D

Overall quite happy but it was frustrating to be given the run around.

Not sure if the "alternative" was the best pick but I had been meaning to get it for some time - any suggestions of a good drop in the $70/bottle price range?

Nice work indeed!!

Where can one find the LL special on Bin 389? Their website is showing $80.

2010 St Hallett Old Black is a brilliant wine. If you have the patience to hold on to it for another 10 years, it should be even better! A much better wine than the Bin 389 IMHO.

Thanks, yes I will be holding on to it for some time. Might look at getting some more...
Interesting because Epiqure are selling it for $25 less than the online cellar door price ($75 vs $100 per bottle)!!
Are there any others in that price range you'd recommend?

St. Hallet Old Block 2010 is a nice one. I'd open one just to check the seal. Last case I ordered from Epicure had a problem with the caps and unfortunately went off. Luckily St. Hallets replaced the entire case for me (Epicure offered a replacement too but St. Hallet was faster with the response).

Another alternative in the $70/bottle range is the Peter Lehmann Stonewell. A bit cheaper but fantastic is the Peter Lehmann VSV 1885 2010 Shiraz at ~$55/bottle.

Am I the only one to have missed getting a Thursday email from EpiQure??

I'll follow up with the epiQure team internally regarding the missing newsletters. Apologies to those who didn't receive an email this time.

No, although with their sale on until July 2 I suspect they dont have much to talk about.

The Cellar Sale was the highlight.

I didn't get one either. Assumed there wasn't one this week due to the cellar sale.
