Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia

I have had no correspondence. Sent VA match email 18th, sent a follow up last Thursday 4th. Submitted a support thing on their site who said to email the status match team again. Fingers crossed it’s the next batch

Logged onto Qatar this morning and discovered my Privilege Club status is WP. Am currently Virgin Plat. It has been many years since I've been in the QP, so who knows maybe I'll get to make a reappearance some time.

I lodged both mine and Mrs Jase on the same day, both Platinums and hers come through on Friday but mine in still pending I presume.
It’s a good gesture from QR and I’ll definitely give them a go from ADL when the new lounge is finished

My match to QR WP came through last night.. Bring on the QF lounges or at least until VA sort out what they are doing..

I can see QF being a pain over this, but I wonder if it comes down to how closely the QF lounge rep looks at the boarding pass/what they're looking for.

If you're wanting to use the QR status but actually credit QF, I'd imagine the best way forward would be to not align your ticket at the time of flying with any program, show up to the lounge with your ticket and QR card for them to view, and then after flying submit a missing points claim with QF. With this plan however you'd miss out on any DSC offers, and would have to come up with a good reason to the lounge rep for you not wanting them to add your QR number to your booking.

The issue of seems to be something QF are on top of, this link says for QF flyers that they need to have their QFF number in their booking to access OW lounges; I imagine they'd ask the same for those using QR perks

Just coming back to this discussion now that most of us had received our status match. Would it be possible to add your QR# at the time of booking in order to take advantage of priority check-in and lounge access. Then once in the lounge use the Qantas app or website to manage your booking and change the FF# to QF in order to receive the points and status credits?

Same here. Really hoping to find a way to start building qantas status whilst still experiencing the benefits of qatar platinum

I had QR ask me for a copy of a VA velocity statement. Of which of course I cant find a way to download from Velocity.

My wife and I both got our platinum matches through from Virgin over the long weekend.

How do we use this if we are needing to book Qantas domestic flights? Make the booking through Qantas.com or usual travel agent and nominate our QR FF number instead of our Qantas one?

Thanks in advance

You wont earn QR status points with QF domestic (to retain QR platinum) but you'd still get access into the Qantas domestic business lounge.

When booking with QF for an international flight is there a way to use the QR status to gain lounge entry but retain the QF frequent flyer number on the boarding pass to collect the points? Now that I’ve reached VA platinum and it has the extended review date (assuming VA pull though) I’m tossing up whether to chase QF status (currently red) or stick with QR and maintain platinum. With no end in sight with corona I may be overthinking it all and we might not even be allowed to leave the country before mid next year!

It's a grey area. American expressly prohibits it. Qantas? It depends on the agent but I don't believe there's anything in the rules preventing it. The idea is to put your QR number against your booking, avail yourself of all the associated tier benefits, then change to your QF number at the last moment. You can do this with a lounge, gate or phone agent, although human intervention is best avoided. Once upon a time, the FInnair and Royal Jordanian websites allowed you to change the FF of other programs, provided the airlines involved used the same GDS (Amadeus, I think). I think that's hit and miss these days. Maybe Qatar's website allows you to do the same.

I would respectfully suggest that those who do go about switching FF numbers do so as quietly as possible. The last thing we need is for QF to explicitly outlaw like AA does.

Thanks. But do we need to enter our QR number on the booking, or can we just use our Qantas number and then flash the QR card to get into the lounge?

Qantas is almost certain to insist the number that confers the benefits you're using be attached to the reservation.

My understanding is that Qpoints can be earned on any Oneworld carrier, with the following clarification. “20% of the Qpoints target needs to be earned on Qatar Airways flights – the remainder can be collected when travelling with other Oneworld member airlines, including Qantas, although domesticQantas flights only count for Qpoints if they're part of an international Qantas or Qatar Airways flight on the same ticket.”

Hi everyone, This was a great catch. Qatar confirm my status match from Gold VA this morning to Gold Qatar.

I have a question I'm sure you guys will know. I want to take my wife to Cairns for a long weekend in September so when booking the flights on Qantas in order to be able to access the lounge do I quote my new Gold Qatar Frequent Flyer Number or my lowly Qantas Red frequent flyer number.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for wasting everyones time. I see in followup emails it's best to quote the Qatar number. I'm not bothered about receiving Qantas points anyway.

Thanks
Wayne

I was matched to QR WP on Sunday. I now have serious first world status problems, QF P1, VA WP, QR WP and KF *G and no flights to use the status as all my international and all but 2 domestic trips have been cancelled. As for the 2 domestic, they are with VA and I am not holding my breath that these will go ahead.

Qantas better stock up the QC and Business lounges for all us Virgin refugees!

Instant QF lounge access to those on their 1st QF flight...crowded lounges for next 12 months.

There won’t be the crowds of yesteryear in lounges going forward. As has been noted in other threads, I think, capped numbers in lounges due to distancing requirements will limit access, particularly at peak periods. Will be interesting to see how this is managed and may justify its own thread once lounges re-open
