Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia

Maybe myself and a few others such as @Matt_01 could have a special tag tailored for those who were already *O emerald and VA WP. :p

Nothing wrong with keeping your options open 😂

It'd be so much more galling for Ausbt to quote sources for their 'news' stories....

Ausbt, out of interest, where did you get this original status match from?? Here.... on AFF? No 'tip of the hat' or credit to anyone. You've shown your true colours, again. As the Original Poster, I'm not offended, but as a matter of principle please take the clicks for your website (commercially advantageous to you and not AFF) and try and build some credibility for sourcing new information yourself.

I don't believe this member is associated in any way with ET. Their handle is just an unfortunate coincidence. ;)

(@Ausbt, FWIW it is possible to change your handle if you want to by contacting support.)

Got my platinum match to VA platinum now too. Will probably fly QF now for my work commute (once lockdown ends) and get at least QF gold by end of the year.

Wow ...triggered big time! o_O I'm reading the message thinking WTF is GM raving about? And then it occurred to me: ummm no GM, I don't have a website and I'm not Executive Traveller nor do I have anything to do with them. A little bit like ISIS Pharmaceuticals and The Trump Group, I'm guilty merely by the ignorant, unaware misfortune of choosing a familiar-sounding username. That said, I don't mind flicking over to ET now and then to look at some pretty pictures, but credit where credit is due - AFF has taught me everything I know. And a special thanks to you for tipping us off on this deal 👍

Thanks for the acknowledgement, Ausbt. My comments were obviously intended for Exec Traveller. It is indeed an unfortunate coincidence with your name here on AFF and the old Australian Business Traveller website which was established some time around when you registered your username here on AFF. Going back through your old posts in 2012/2013/2014 when Ausbt.com.au was a thing, there are some uncanny correlations, but as you’ve stated your are not related in anyway so I’ll move on 😉

I know airlines aren’t the most ethical of companies, but even if it is possible to switch FF accounts from QR to QF after accessing the lounge and other status benefits, I think it’s important to ask ourselves if it’s fair to do so.

I take your point but would ask, is it fair that airlines (QF very much included) hold onto people's refunds for weeks on end?

Thanks Mattg, yes I think this would be a good idea

Reminds me of the organisations that felt it appropriate to change their names in order to avoid the acronym ISIS.

so I just received a notice from QA that my VA Plat has qualified me for QA Plat. thanks AFF and Goldmember. now the big question is, how can I turn this new status into QFF Plat? I love flying VA, but frankly not sure where they will come out after all this, so it looks like I will need to move over to QFF but dread starting from the bottom. This status match with QA has come at a good time and is a blessing, but I do not fly as much int'l as I do dom. Anyone know how I can use this new status for the benefits included, but start to acquire QFF points? Cheers

Was just wondering the same thing. Submitted on the first day and no communication whatsoever.
If you haven’t received an email from them registering your “service request” and giving you a reference number, I’d definitely politely follow up.
My parents emailed early on as well and hadn’t gotten a reference number until a quick email follow up - it may be a glitch in their email system and your first email could have been overlooked considering how many they’ve received.

I received a reference number after my initial submission. I wasn't asked to provide any additional information but just in case I requested my statement from Velocity and then uploaded it into the contact centre message thread later. This was marked as Resolved in the contact centre on Tuesday, but I still haven't heard from Qatar as to whether my status match has been approved or denied.

Morning everyone, Well, booked QF flights for my wife and I BNE-CNS-BNE in September for an anniversary weekend. Quoted her QF FF number and my new QR Gold FF#.

Can I assume I can include her as my guest into the QF Lounge using my QR Status? She is a standard QF Red flyer.

Also, if the offer entry to the standard QF lounges or the Business Lounges?

Thanks

Wayne Johnston

Assuming the lounges are open
Yes
Qantas Club for Gold (Domestic Business for Platinum)

That's my thinking. In fact it could be a win:win for QF as they will receive a fee from QR for granting lounge access to one of their members and have the opportunity to build a relationshp with a loyal VA customer who they may be able to convert to a full-time QF customer. QF will know that most of the VA refugees will not retain their QR status and in 12 months from now will be looking for permanent home.

I think perhaps people questioning the morality of using QR status to enter the QF lounges, then once in, switching to QFF is actually 'Is it fair for QR to just pay for all VA refugees lounge access and get nothing in return'. So its about whether this is taking advantage of QR....

This is actually great news for QF agreed its win / win / win - as long as they can manage the numbers without annoying other members - but I suspect business travel will be muted for a while so everyone should be able to fit in!

Anybody else still left out in the cold?
Still waiting. Submitted originally on the 18th received my service request number on the 2nd and then nothing. Followed up through the service centre 2 days ago, request is still sitting as ‘new’
