Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia

There won’t be the crowds of yesteryear in lounges going forward. As has been noted in other threads, I think, capped numbers in lounges due to distancing requirements will limit access, particularly at peak periods. Will be interesting to see how this is managed and may justify its own thread once lounges re-open

Maybe we could invent a bag tag:

'I used to be a DYKWIA VA WP' for us VA1 refugees so we can identify each other in real life in the Qantas lounges 😂

I was matched to QR WP on Sunday. I now have serious first world status problems, QF P1, VA WP, QR WP and KF *G and no flights to use the status as all my international and all but 2 domestic trips have been cancelled. As for the 2 domestic, they are with VA and I am not holding my breath that these will go ahead.

Is there a button for downvotes? That's some serious showing off here! 😂

3 out of the 4 have been my concurrent standard status levels for the past 3-4 years, QR is the odd one out. To maintain status across programs as soon as I hit the minimum requirement with one program I start crediting to the next and it is relatively simple and I can keep a few options open. I put in for the QR match as it was available and did not have a QR account until it was offered, will I ever fly on my QR number, most likely not. Being *O emerald in 2 programs at the same time has absolutely no value but adds to the DYKWIA behaviour that should be encouraged "in these unprecedented times" ;)

Does anyone know how to now book with Qantas to make sure we get the benefits of QR Status ( OneWorld ) I add my QR number into the section on the Qantas site for the FF number and then at the payment page it has Saphire ( Gold ) under my name but no upfront seats or extra baggage so not sure if that is then updated once I complete the booking? and then I assume all I need to do is flash my boarding pass and I will get access to the lounge. also with reward bookings would I need to flash my QR Gold and my QF Booking similar to Jetstar?

Won't it be galling for QF SGs when the VA Plats start bragging about dining al la carte in the Q First lounge while flying that SYD JQ dom flight we've all heard about for years? Oh BTW, can we still wear our thongs? We do get special dispensation right? 😂 Airs'n'Graces... isn't that a hard-rock band from the 80's?

One of the potential benefits of lounge capacity being cut is hopefully sending JQ passengers elsewhere 😂

As long as your boarding pass has your status on there you should be ok.

I know many (myself included) are planning on in the lounge changing their QR FF number to their QFF account so they can begin building status in QF.

I would imagine QF would know this is a big possibility and would think they would be racking their brains trying to work out ways of preventing it

It'd be so much more galling for Ausbt to quote sources for their 'news' stories....

Ausbt, out of interest, where did you get this original status match from?? Here.... on AFF? No 'tip of the hat' or credit to anyone. You've shown your true colours, again. As the Original Poster, I'm not offended, but as a matter of principle please take the clicks for your website (commercially advantageous to you and not AFF) and try and build some credibility for sourcing new information yourself.

I really hope don't give prevention a lot of thought. Otherwise, the VA refugees won't develop any status/loyalty to QF and, whilst thanks for the free beer for a year or so, would probably take their biz elsewhere when their QR status expires. There is an opportunity here for them.

I know airlines aren’t the most ethical of companies, but even if it is possible to switch FF accounts from QR to QF after accessing the lounge and other status benefits, I think it’s important to ask ourselves if it’s fair to do so.

Even though I know tongue is firmly in cheek how would QR platinums ever get access to QF first lounge when flying on JQ?

Just wanted to say an awesome big thanks to AFF and the original poster 'Gold Member' for this. :)I received my match a couple of days ago.

My partner is engaged in a bit of e-mail ping pong with QR due to his name not exactly matching his passport and their Velocity card and will hopefully be matched to platinum too.

Some positive news in these bleak Covid days - whilst we can't travel and chase or wait for refunds.

Hopefully it won't be long before we get to enjoy the benefits that the status match brings. :p

I’m wondering how much QF would care? They get to cross charge QR for the lounge access and they get the money for the flights...

That's my thinking. In fact it could be a win:win for QF as they will receive a fee from QR for granting lounge access to one of their members and have the opportunity to build a relationshp with a loyal VA customer who they may be able to convert to a full-time QF customer. QF will know that most of the VA refugees will not retain their QR status and in 12 months from now will be looking for permanent home.

Wow ...triggered big time! o_O I'm reading the message thinking WTF is GM raving about? And then it occurred to me: ummm no GM, I don't have a website and I'm not Executive Traveller nor do I have anything to do with them. A little bit like ISIS Pharmaceuticals and The Trump Group, I'm guilty merely by the ignorant, unaware misfortune of choosing a familiar-sounding username. That said, I don't mind flicking over to ET now and then to look at some pretty pictures, but credit where credit is due - AFF has taught me everything I know. And a special thanks to you for tipping us off on this deal 👍😁

...fair point, seems I might have a bit to learn yet, but I'll keep reading!
