Qatar Airways status match to Virgin Australia

So it seems that QF number on BP is no barrier to lounge entry using QR OWE status.

But just bumping the question regarding other QR OWE benefits at check-in, such as extra luggage. OWE are entitled to an additional bag on QF flights. Does anyone have experience of getting the OWE benefits at check-in with QF number in the booking?
There’s been no change or doubt over QR/QF benefits, this thread is about the QR/VA partnership. Would be good to read some anecdotal reviews about how it’s working for Velocity Gold and Plats.

Sorry not sure what you've been reading but there's been plenty of doubt over QR/QF benefits. Although the status was matched from VA - hence the thread - right from the very first post there has been plenty of discussion about using the QR OWE status to obtain/maximise QF benefits.

In fact, other than discussion about obtaining the status match and the various extensions, most of the discussion has been about VA elites using their new OWE status on OW airlines, mainly QF. The official QR/VA partnership is newer than the thread/status match.

OW benefits apply to each airline. This hasn’t changed.
No one has said they've changed or don't apply. It's how best to get them, ie which number on booking, or BP to get past the lounge dragons, where to credit, when to change FF number etc. Read the thread to understand. Lots of anecdotes for you.

You’re missing the point of the previous posts.

VA WP -> QR WP and OWE. Prior to the very recent QR/VA thing, you could have a lowly QFF number/status on a OW booking but flash your QR WP card to gain lounge access.

The other question was about getting the additional OWE benefits (checkin, baggage etc). The short answer is put your QR number in the booking and then change to your QF number in the lounge.

Has anyone got the QR G/P renewal from the status match by flying on VA? I have VA/QR Gold and QF red (never use them).
I have 116 QCredits and need 34 QCredits to renew Gold by 31/12/22.
Any ideas/advice for the easiest and cheapest way to get there locally?
cheers

Can’t be done locally… you need to fly on a QR flight for credits

Check how many credits you'd get flying ADL-AKL return.
Thanks Bibendum and BNEFlyer - Was hoping VA/QR make an announcement and could get qcredits on VA metal but time is running out. VA/G will run out in Feb'23 but figure QR/G can compensate for both for an extra year.
AKL-ADL: Can't do it in just eco but can with a mix of 1bz & 31ec ADL-AKL-ADL. Now to decide if the cost and time is worth it!

Any indication if Qatar is going to extend the status expiry again?
I wouldn’t think so given how much QR has been paying out with us accessing the first lounge in both Melbourne and Sydney.

I’m sure they’d be bleeding money and some analyst in QR would be looking at it for sure…

Under Oneworld agreements, the operating carrier pays for the lounge entry fee behind the scenes. In simpler language, the airline you're flying that day picks up the bill, whether you're entering by status or cabin class.

If you were suddenly taking actual Qatar Airways flights a lot because of your status match and you were always going into the First Lounge, then yes, you'd be costing QR, but they'd also be more than offsetting that by the uptick in ticket revenue (which is what the status match aims to achieve). If you were mainly flying QF instead but flashing your QR card for the lounge (or a better lounge), well, QR's status match would be 'costing' QF instead, so QR would be laughing!

Music to my ears! Thanks for explaining @ChrisFlyer.

I’ve given up on requalifying QR platinum, as much as I’d want to do that instead of my QF gold.

Looking forward to costing QF as much as I possibly can when I visit the F lounge next week. Thanks QR, I’ll be laughing with you.

I hope so as I haven't travelled in last years or so I did send them an email to see if they can extend it but got same typical answer we will review situation in dec & will advise -

I think that used to be the case, but my understanding was that this had changed a few years ago, and depended on whether it was being accessed by class or status.

Had no issues the other week using SYD QF F check-in + SYD QF F lounge + SIN QF F lounge with my QFF number on my boarding pass, but showing digital QR pass.

QR's own lounge in SIN is very good too, with better champagne (Bollinger Rose) than QF F! Recommend checking both out.

I also ducked my head into the BA and EK lounges in SIN to have a peek... and in the hopes that QF would get billed for it. ;)

No mention of status extension so will assume that's it. Make the most of your Platinum benefits over the next 2 weeks!

Status extension to 31/3/23 has just hit for me.

Suspect the same for everyone else?
