Wow 408 comments in 4 days!! + hundreds, if no thousands, of bookings made.

Who ever came with this idea at Qantas is going to get the "employee of the month award"

I booked 8 flights in advance (which more likely would have gone to VA due to the discount code and more competitive fares)
Plus a SR BNE-CNS in J to get SG this year, before my QP membership is due to be renewed and another J trip in November (BNE-AKL) just to make sure I can keep my SG status for 2017

BTW I have a the utmost sympathy for all of you who try to explain the other halfs what a SR is and why we do it. I tried and failed dramatically hahaha

Depending on status tier: lounge access, priority boarding, extra baggage allowance, express path, arrivals lounge access, better upgrade chance, increased points earn on flights etc.

Worth more to some than others. If doing my status run helps me to get upgrades (using points) and/or get award seats booked I wouldn't have otherwise got then in my view by that alone it will have paid for itself.

Don't think my relatives will share my opinion though.

I eventually took the bait and booked a ticket to the US last night before the end of the DSC offer. However, I got an email this morning saying that my booking was not yet complete because I hadn't completed the APIS and an e-ticket can't be issued until the APIS is completed. I got a booking reference straight after (last night) and there was also an impending charge on my credit card immediately after I made the booking. I should be right in terms of qualifying for this offer, right? If not, I'd be mightily pissed off. Who knows where the hell they'll be staying (as part of ther APIS) a year in advance???

my thoughts are that you should be OK as the booking/PNR was set up on 4 May and the APIS stuff is after. Yes ticketing date may be an issue, but if there is one I'm simply argue that the promo was to BOOK flights in the window.. ticketing is another issue. Honestly I see this as being fine

Did we get confirmation that things like Gift Vouchers work? Or are you just being hopeful?

I do not think that many 'additional' bookings were made because of this promotion. What it would do is bring the bookings forward and 'onto the books'.

Outside of AFF, a DSC promotion would produce far less interest than say a double FF point promotion.

All that is guaranteed is that 'fake' status will be on the rise over the next year or so.

Pleb, I agree that outside FF circles most people don't even know what SC are. And it does help many attain status they may not otherwise get to. (but that is not fake - it is what the airline offers)

But regarding extra bookings, I disagree. I think that many (all us AFF'ers) have probably either made extra bookings, or more importantly, made bookings in higher revenue classes, due specifically to this promotion.

Or maybe I am just thinking about me ;)

No extra booking for me - but Q did score a cancellation fee when I cancelled and rebooked.

I ended up booking a trip to NZ for later in the year. The sale fares during this double SC promo have been few and far between, but I was reasonably happy with SYD-AKL-SYD for just under $400.

This will pick me up 80 SC and is a trip I was planning to do at some point anyway (although I probably would not have booked on Jetconnect if not for this offer). I now have enough travel booked to easily retain gold status for another year.
I had 2 weekends in a row planned to be in BNE in September.

So now I have only 1 weekend planned in BNE in September. ;) Cost ~$750 and earns 160 SCs. BNE-SYD-HKG and return on the weekend and secured 43H on the 747 both ways.

QANTAS scored three bookings from me at least two of which are additional to what I would have done otherwise.

I think this is a good marketing ploy by QF, I myself booked a BNE-SYD-HKG RTN based on the double status credits offer. I had been flying SQ previuiosly but decided to jump ship so to speak on this one because it gets me to 540 SC's and as a result, I booked a BNE-MEL Rtn to make up the difference.

So win win for me and QF as far as I see it!

P.S I would be much happier if they re-introduced PE on the BNE-SIN route!

I booked a few flights in the hours leading up to midnight however I've noticed that one of them was ticketed on May 5. I can't see anything in the T&C about 'ticketed' date, only when the 'flight booking' was made. Is it safe to assume that these flights booked on May 4 but ticketed afterwards will qualify for DSC?

Don't like the odds on the 5th.
I booked a J to Bangkok and stuffed up the return date. Had to ring today and asked the question, they said the booking date stays at the 4th even though they changed it
Looks like QANTAS got me, booked enough flights to make WP this year and requalify for SG early on next year, maybe that's the idea, suck us in and then squeeze out a bit more from us so it looks like we will be squeezing into the lounges too along with the greater unwashed booking through this promo! ( just kidding, I'm one too )

From my perspective - a very successful promotion by QF.

Got me to bring forward payment of a few thousand dollars. Also encouraged me to book 1 long-haul J (for 2) round trip; and a few extra J side trips. Nearly got 2 more Europe J trips but I'll be LTG soon and P1 isn't worth it / no LTP so why pay more.

Plus 7 colleagues/friends/family who know I am P1 but otherwise have no association with AFF nor did I speak with them -- and range from Bronze to Gold -- have told me they will join me in the F lounges in future - purely as a result of this offer. I stand by my earlier comment - expect crowded lounges for the next 2 years and incentive for a diminution of benefits.

OK, so I haven't managed to get my return and with only one day left for the DSC I've decided to share.

So UL Ticket stock Ex-CMB
Route is CMB to New Zealand major ports.
Fare Code: IOWQFLK6

Routes via SIN & SYD open jaw is allowed and I was able to price one return via MEL (but not anymore)

Here are some screengrabs for 14th June (I had a PM about someone considering to position after the HKG lounge run). Availability for one-way is wide open.

Only way to get it to price is to enter each flight segment using multi-city. Stopovers appear to be allowed and pricing OK.

All fares are in J
Screenshots below expire 47 hours from date/time of this post.

Example 1 CMB-CHC $1,145

Example 2 CMB-AKL $1,150

Example 3 CMB-(stop)SYD-AKL $1270

Zimocca,
am I missing something here? You've found a nice fare I guess, but you're not getting DSC for all of it as the flights aren't all operated by QF. Looks like you've got a UL flight and then some connecting QF flights from SIN to Aus to NZ. So I can't see that a fare normally yielding 280SC would be doubled as the CMB-SIN leg is not eligible. (and incidentally 2 x 280 = 460, not the 480 you originally listed) Plus, unless you were already based in Sri Lanka, you've then got to add positioning flights to the cost per SC.

My understanding of "booking" is the creation of a PNR and the issue of a 6 digit code that refers to the PNR. Until this is issued you don't have a booking. This makes sense as its the only way of locating any booking within the airline's reservation system without a more time consuming search.

The issue may arise for some when the "confirm" button is pressed at prior to midnight and the PNR is issued after midnight.
There is often a delay between the payment confirmed button and the issuing of the PNR and the delay may be enough to tick over to a new calendar day.

I think it comes down to whether the airline is flexible with this when there is evidence payment is pre midnight and PNR is post midnight.

I purchased a transpacific ticket prior to the DSC offer and the PNR issued months ago, but due to APIS it was only ticketed during the DSC offer window. I'm not expecting DSC on that flight because the PNR was issued prior to DSC offer.

Let's hope that QF do this again!

I hope so too, but suspect it would be prudent to assess the full effect, which will take quite some time (is it a bring-forward, what are the real impacts on numbers of status pax and effects on lounges etc etc).

I hope they offer a temporary xASA window. But that's wishful thinking.
