No, I think Pushka's referring to earning status on QF whilst flying internationally from ADL. Unless you do that on EK with QF code you are penalized by the "Simpler & Fairer" changes.

Oh yeah that's a major bummer "Simpler and Fairer" thanks AJ for penalising us when flying on other one world carries.( without QF numbers)

My friends are definitely not anti-Arab and I find the comment offensive. They have good reasons why travelling through DXB is not safe for them.
Don't worry you get that quite a lot. If you don't like transitting DXB then you are definitely a racist.

I carry Xanax with me at all times. I am seriously thinking about transitting the middle east sometime next year to accompany my 79 year old father to Greece. God help me if something goes wrong and we end landside somewhere for whatever reason and then searched. Do I really need that sort of worry on my mind? I hate being treated like a criminal when I have done nothing wrong.

Well of course you will say that.

I have a friend in ADL who initally welcomed the EK-QF tie up. My friend now flies to MEL to get QF and will not fly EK

I have a friend who likes flying Emirates. Ok now we are equal. Seriously just take your business elsewhere altogether if you and your friends are so horrified by a dxb transit. Why should Qantas have to cater for you?

JohnK... if you are so overwhelmingly concerned then why are you even contemplating it? Choose another airline. After all you have said you simply cannot have a pork free breakfast!

The only reason I fly to connect interstate is because of the International lounges in Qantas. If I get the choice I then select an Emirates outbound flight as codeshare. Guess everyone has their own opinion. I have no issues with Emirates.

You can buy pseudo ephedrine (sudafed) over the counter in Dubai. Not made to feel a criminal like we are here. There are no issues whatsoever in carrying personal supplies of prescription drugs. Its a beat up.

I thought about that but guessed Puska must be referring to flying First class only?

The only time I have flown first class out of Adelaide is when Emirates upgraded us from J. In two years, Emirates has upgraded us from Y to J twice, and J to F three times. Qantas in 20 years has upgraded us once. (Free upgrades not points).

What about CX, QR, MH and SQ?

I like Hong Kong but prefer to fly out of Dubai. Cant fly Qantas to Singapore direct. I wont travel on MH until their safety issues are sorted. Have no status with SQ and no points to get award flights. Qatar - new player on the scene but how is that different from EK anyway.

Only a beat up if you travel through without incident.

Thanks for that BAM ...... Had no idea melatonin was such an issue !

Several of you have mentioned the cost of flights after the initial "honeymoon" period with the tie-up, and especially the code-shares with EK. This year they were offering QF1/8012/2 (Business (D)) for $9,917.16, and I took CX100/357/260/161 at $7.2k.

When the partnership was launched QF had J fares down around $7k, and I took two seats at that price. Haven't seen anything at the times I want to travel below $8k since. Just picked up AY flights SYD-HKG-HEL-VIE//CDG-HEL-HKG-SYD for $5.7k, and can generally pick up J seats at less than the $7k benchmark that the QF flight set, and with AY usually tack on two intra-Europe legs on same PNR.

Found the transit in DXB excellent, the lounges wonderful, but have no desire to stay over. Find the transit in HKG excellent also, and always enjoy a stopover here on the way home. DXB is just not a place I would choose for a stopover, and I have flown through the middle east a number of times over the years. And its not a racism or religious issue - for example I would not want to stay in Vegas either, although many do. I prefer the stopovers in Asia, and as aussie_flyer has suggested we should, I have voted with my feet.

Yes its all personal choice, but when it is said that QF has benefited from the tie up, I wonder how much. They are flying fewer planes to Europe, carrying fewer pax as a result, and I would have thought are really profiting EK more than themselves.

Personally I am not fussed about CD. It was a nightmare getting out of London to LHR on one trip, and on returning to SYD they had a contractor of a contractor waiting to take me home who spent the whole journey saying how clever he was, and that he could have taken trips like ours if he wanted to etc... (I should have complained, he just didn't know when to shut up).

Overall, my assessment is that QF is not a better airline than it was 10 years ago, just a bit more profitable than its leanest years around the GFC. It serves less people directly, and gives them much less if they choose to fly with an alliance partner.

And I would really like to know whether those stories have a lot of behind the scenes info that was never revealed. As per my bold. If they are sold otc then there were other reasons for the arrest. The Melatonin was the media-grab.

By the way, the same 'ok to travel to as long as there is no issue' applies to every country on the planet.

I don't know the back stories just posting the info for people to draw their own conclusions.

By the way, the "ok to travel......." I agree, but not all countries are created equal when it comes to rights and rule of law. This local being one of the lessor when it comes to rights.

Too true.

A friend of mine was arrested and spent some weeks in the other Changi, "Changi Women's Prison" for allegedly shoplifting sunglasses while in transit in Singapore about 10 years ago. I stopped flying via SIN for a number of years after this.

Trying to make the trip as short as possible for dad.

Oh yeah that's a major bummer "Simpler and Fairer" thanks AJ for penalising us when flying on other one world carries.( without QF numbers)

And thanks for removing almost all the QF code share numbers on other OW carriers

One of the reasons I won't fly EK is their safety attitude: just read the ATSB report on the tail strike at MEL if you don't think there is a problem. And the pilots were sacked before they got home so who wil report a problem if that is the airlines attitude?

Many of these are QF commercial decisions with little to no relevance to EK.

If folks were booking PER/ADL/BNE international flights these would have never been enhanced away. If anything, EK is now filling gaps where QF can't make the commercials work.

There's ~20 airlines flying AU -> EU daily. If Qantas no longer meets your requirements why not simply fly another airline? You can continue crediting flights to QFF and fly other airlines.

Times change...

With simpler and fairer there is a massive penalty on QF FF if flying other airlines

Seriously the complaints about pork and. alcohol inside food are just ridiculous. Did Qantas promise to always serve pork on every flight? Is that actually a broken promise? Get a grip

For the record I do not eat pork and I do not eat halal: both for personal reasons. As Qantas promotes itself as the Spirit of Australia it is not unreasonable to expect a traditional Aussie cooked breakfast (i.e bacon, eggs etc as one of the options). To me the removal of these dishes from all flights does not meet AJ's promise of giving us the best of options in eveything on the flights via DXB. Out of interest, does EK have a dish 'inspired by Qantas' on its routes to/from Aus? i.e. one to match the QF 'mezze inspired by Emirates'?

I gather the steak sandwich and schnitzel sandwich are sometimes featured on EK flights in J? Personally I'd take the mezze plate!

I'm not convinced that a QF Y cooked breakfast, with or without bacon, is a good representation of the "Spirit of Australia" :)

Besides, isn't a tradtitonal Aussie cooked breakfast basically just a "full english" minus a couple of components?

As you're already LTG, why not credit to a different carrier who better meets your requirements?

But honestly, unless you have personally experienced these things then they are just back stories and not a real basis on which to form an opinion.
