Turns out per passenger, DVT is more common in the higher classes than economy.

Postulated to be because of more alcohol, less movement and less water intake.

Hi Pushka, sorry to hear you've been grounded! Again with these fares from a practical sense. If booked as two one way fares, one is originating in NZ with NZ rules and currency, and the other direction originating in AUS with AUS rules and currency (therefore the special can only be used in one direction?) Or is there a way around this?

Correct. The special has only ever been on the flights NZ - Aus. Not on the Aus - NZ flight.

Some have booked two return flights and intertwined the two.

I'll let the wife know that's why we always fly in Y, less chance of DVT.

Booked a weekend getaway for two in AKL in September! Flying ex SYD J on the outbound ($658AUD), returning to MEL in F ($899NZD)! Now just need to sort out some dirty discount hoppers from and to ADL.
Many thanks to Pushka for assistance.

That's still more expensive that the normal J class price ex AKL

I'm sitting here in AKL and just checked out the prices for tomorrow. A$792

I think the assertion is that J from ADL-AKL was AU$717 v to Sydney $799, when flying to AKL you'll be doing the SYD/MEL leg anyway? (I think?)

It's a reasonable run for some SCs, actually - a cheapie from SYD-ADL; J ADL-SYD-AKL and EK F back. Definitely a nice way to do it in style haha

Ah, sorry, I missed that point. All pretty normal supply and demand though.

Yes that's one of the points; although at $717 ex ADL and $599 ex Syd, it would be bus all the way !

the other is one can't save the Harry Potter wand and magically appear in Akl to start.

The bus fare in August is Adl-Bris-AKL FOR $725 which is 140SCs. this is cheaper than one way bus class to Bris on domestic. So one could get off in Bris and save $225. (No doubt the pricing inside Aquire gives a much reduced price) but often these are self funded. I can see an ABN in your future.....

Thanks for all the info everyone! Will be watching for a sale fare for my 10 year anniversary next year!

How often has this promo been running roughly ?
If I want to travel in July current prices are ~A$2700 for two pax one way

I'd wait a month if possible. Chances are a sale will come up in that time.

Take a look at the current companion sale. I'm seeing BNE-AKL for AUD 2022 (J). Don't forget to use the voucher method to avoid booking fees ex oz.

Sale ends 23 May.

Its back on: Terms and conditions: Advertised fares are for sale until 28 May 2016 for dates into March next year.
