QF International via Darwin

Does anyone know of a recent review or recount of the QF Long haul experience (in J) recently?

I've got QF2 / QF9 coming up soon and was interested in what I needed to plan on bringing - do things like PJs still get given out, or is it best to plan ahead and BYO?
I have just done QF9/QF2
It’s normal service with amenity kits and PJs on the long haul sectors in and out of DRW.

So I was booked on QF9 (supposedly via Perth) in April. I just noticed that my booking online is now showing as "cancelled". Pretty sure this just happened this morning, i.e. around same time as announcement about routing through DRW. Can anyone else report something similar? I'm hoping it's not really "cancelled" and it's just that the system is being updated with the new routing, and once that's sorted it will be reinstated. Or do I need to call QF?

I would be phoning, now, if not sooner. 😉

As P1, the phone wait time should be minimal

The Qantas website is showing direct availability from Perth in April but you can’t proceed with the booking, it’s also showing no direct availability from Darwin in April. I assume they are updating the website

MEL/SYD -LHR via DRW extended until at least mid June due to the ongoing WA border issues
Good. WA/Mark have been a little too smug for my liking, they deserve to have the route taken off them.

Ye of little faith! Weirdly, it seems to have fixed itself without me doing anything. I can't remember anything like that happening before TBH.

Today, QF stated:

"Qantas will keep flying its double daily direct flights from Australia to London via Darwin following ongoing uncertainty around the reopening of the West Australian border and testing requirements for passengers transiting through Singapore...

...Qantas currently operates daily flights from both Melbourne and Sydney to London (via Darwin) on its 787 Dreamliner."\

Well no, it does not, as the MEL - DRW - LHR and return QF9/10s are only four days per week: Mo Tu Th Sa ex MEL.

Another example of QF exaggerating what it does or can achieve.

And the SYD-LHR is being swapped out for an A380 from EU summer

I thought the A380 was weight restricted on DRW-LHR? Or is that from when it resumes via SIN?

Did QF2 LHR-DRW-SYD last month, and about to do the return QF1 soon. No differences to note, it was all "as normal", with the exception of being on the B787 with the new suite.

Having done QF1/2 a few times over the years, I preferred the layover DRW compared to SIN or DXB. I always find the second leg of the trip to feel the longest/most painful, so I was glad to have it be only four hours. Timing of landing in Sydney at 8pm was great for jet lag, but not looking forward to landing back in London at 5am.

I thought it was scheduled to be daily by the time it switched back to Perth. Sometime in March it was going daily.

I have a ticket on QF1 for August, at the time I booked this was a Dreamliner (46 J seats) but now it shows as an A380 (70 J seats), so I guess they assume SIN will be in use then, I just worry that if they swap back to a Dreamliner because still need to use DRW there will be less seats and whole trip will be screwed.

Mr McGowan hasn't publicly changed his stance despite the only local newspaper 'The West' finally turning against him (took its time) and various highly respected businessmen such as Rob Scott declaring it's impossible to conduct national/international business from Perth and moving to 'the eastern states' (the latter a term of derision when used by WA politicians).

Whether there'll be *fewer seats on your travel date is impossible to predict but let's hope not for your sake.

Whether QF1 will transit Singapore or not with the A380 is more about the transit experience in Singapore than anything in Perth.

Currently sitting in the new Qantas "pop-up" (old Catalina) lounge in Darwin, It's very full! (hardly a spare seat). Lounge couldn't cope with larger aircraft. It's still the familiar Catalina layout, but with Qantas staff with upgraded food options to the old lounge.

If that’s the upgraded food options I wouldn’t have liked to try it previously !!! 😂

It is daily from mid march.

E/F shows QF1 Switches to via SIN 27th March (although all fare buckets SYD-LHR are currently showing zero on that day).
