The Transit hotel at HEL is very good - just outside immigration and on the lower level.I would not transit through Finland. I went to an airport there once and it was HEL.

Wouldn't the heavier fuel load on the longer sector be balanced by the lower fuel load for the first sector?Anyone who is super environmentally conscientious would probably look into the relative fuel wastage on a 4/5 hour + 17 hour sector, as opposed to 2 more evenly balanced sectors. The more fuel that needs to be carried, the more fuel gets burned up just carrying the fuel's weight.
That is one for the Ask the Pilot thread.Wouldn't the heavier fuel load on the longer sector be balanced by the lower fuel load for the first sector?

When you say 'stayed on to complete the trip' do include those who had a stopover in SIN then continued to SYD/LHR?Just out of interest does anyone have a guesstimate or the actual figures on people travelling the whole journey on QF1 or QF2 when it went via SIN? Would be really interesting to see how many only travelled to SIN and how many stayed on to complete the trip. I always had the feeling that many from our end at least only went as far as SIN

For flyers from the east coast I never quite understood the appeal of Perth as a stopover, unless you wanted to avoid transiting another country? DRW actually seems favourable to PER in terms of time/distance but the schedule is not much fun - QF1 lands at LHR around 4:30am (and Qantas no longer provides arrivals lounge or chauffeur drive).
I’d still choose SIN or DXB if I had the option. Going via PER doesn’t really save you any time… the route via SIN or even Japan is actually a shorter distance.

Google ‘Middle east flight risks women assaulted’ to see why many people avoid the UAE now….
Just a data point, friends in laws came in last week, LHR leg was about 50/60% full but the SIN leg was 100% full.

What flight was this? All Qantas flights to/from LHR are currently going via Darwin, not Singapore.

O man!Socceroos charter presumably
I love finding private charter flights on Flights Radar and guessing who they might be. I have spotted plenty of sports teams flying domestically but never the Footballoos.Socceroos charter presumably
QFi have played a big part in Socceroos success, ever since the charter flight home from Uruguay in November 2005. Having a direct flight, with all the health and allied support on board, compared to Uruguay's indirect flights, gave the Aussies the edge they needed to beat a team ranked over 30 places higher, to a World Cup spot in Germany. Great to see that the relationship is still strong now that International sporting travel has resumed.I love finding private charter flights on Flights Radar and guessing who they might be. Fingers crossed for you. I have an awesome RTW redemption for September but I am already 99% convinced it won't happen.Just 4 weeks until our flight to LHR via DRW - trying not to get over-excited (without much success). And still hoping we get to visit the SYD First lounge (ie that that they don't open the J lounge before then).
