Special needs? With fixed armrests? Yeah ok qantas.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

Called Qantas, told me I can't take them because they are 'normally' reserved for special needs.

Indeed! 'Special needs' platinums who are [conveniently] incapable of working out when to go to the toilet and find themselves having to use the front WC rather than the one down the back! ;)

Ha, ha, too funny :).

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

Just tried to choose row 4 on a 737 CBR - MEL, only one seat in row 4 is occupied, but errors when I try to pick the empty ones.

Called Qantas, told me I can't take them because they are 'normally' reserved for special needs.

Flight is tommorrow....

Never heard that one before, maybe next step is to charge for them.
It's only a matter of time before that happens.

How easy is it to get back customers you have lost to the opposition?

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

I need row 4 for emotional support.

What a crock of #$@%.

I understand the need to make money as a business but really QF has lost the plot.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

"Extra Legroom" now seems to be starting up on trans-tasman flights. A recent SYD-CHC booking is tagging 4C as an extra legroom seat (selected without charge as a mere WP):

But such seats are apparently not (yet) available on International Short Haul flights.

Just a matter of time I guess.......

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

I have a SYD-HKG return end March/beginning April and had 47H selected both ways.

It would appear there has been an aircraft substitution on both legs and I was re-allocated 32B and 32G upstairs. These are bulkhead seats but not classed as extra legroom seats?

These have less space than row 43 on the refurbed 747... so I would hope not.

Interesting. Isn't Qantas charging for row 23 on the A330's? Another of those inconsistencies.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

No as far as I am aware they are not charging for row 23. At least not on the 332. I flew PER-MEL on 10 Feb and row 23 was blocked to me until T-24 and then I was able to select 23A free of charge.

My QF4 (HNL - SYD) flight later this year has seats 23 A,B,D,E J & K blocked - QF P1 desk advise that it is because of the bassinets - I can purchase 23F,G for $180 or wait till T-24 for blocked seats to maybe available.

I'm confused? I thought all exit row and extra legroom seats were free for QF P1.

[h=3]Complimentary exit row seating[/h]You enjoy complimentary Exit Row Seating†, where available, on selected Qantas operated International flights (flight numbers QF1-QF199). Exit Row Seating can be requested via our Priority Telephone Service up until three hours before your scheduled departure time, and Platinum One members will not pay the fee that would normally apply.

All Y seats are free for P1 on all QF operated services (you have to call however). I have never had an issue with this, even from the incompetent P1 SST.

They are, and when I was P1 I availed myself of this benefit with a quick call to the P1 team and they were immediately selected for me.

I have snagged 23B a couple of times this way. Since they started charging I have been picking 44D or G which have almost as much room as the B and J seats, probably more than the A and K seats depending on slide fitted.

They are still classed as Exit Row seats but they done sting you $60 for them.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D & Dom. Exit

I've pretty much moved to another airline where I still get to choose these seats for free (well the ones that actually do have extra leg room) when I book. Even their regular Y seats have better pitch than QF. Got a couple of A380 flights in the trapdoor seat coming up. Also get exit rows just for asking (I'm tall), like I used to with QF.

Which airline allows you to choose bulkhead/exit rows for free without status or paying for the privilege?

Emirates does not allow you to preselect exit or extra leg room seats at time of booking and are only released at time of check in at the airport. This is based on personal experience and confirmed by others on here.
