Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D, Int. bullhead & Dom. Exit

So it appears that QF finally realised that charging $90 for row 23 is insane! The seat map for QF6 doesn't show row 23 in "red" anymore.

I was quite scathing in my criticism of this following a couple of recent trips. I'm presuming that many others gave negative feedback as well.

Can't find which thread it is now... but is the dom 23A/B pair any good? They are now available for selection, it's on one of the older non-JQ configs (36/265 - EBM/EBN).

If it's the config with the old seat-back IFE on the economy seats (and in-arm IFE on row 23), then yes, it's good: there's no bulkhead in front of you so you get a lot of leg room.

You can tell this config from the seat map: if rows 23 and 24 both only have A/B and J/K, and the first full economy row is row 25, then it's one of these. If either row 23 and 24, or just row 24 are full rows, then it's a different config and the row 23 seats are right up against the bulkhead with very little leg room, so they're not so good. I'm never sure even how to find out which plane is actually flying on a route in advance, so I just go by the seatmap.

At least, that's what I've found on my coast-to-coast domestic flights, anyway, although it's now been a couple of months since I was actually on one of these. Almost all of my flights lately have been on the refits, where row 24 is the first full economy row.

I think you may have the IFE systems confused. The domestic configs with the seating you have mentioned have the newer Panasonic systems, where as the 332's with the skybeds and the bulkhead have the older RC system.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D, Int. bullhead & Dom. Exit

If I was after legroom I'd only select 23B or 23J on the 332's when it's an actual exit row - not bulkhead. The leg space for the person in the window is impeded by the escape slide according to SO who flew in 23B BNE/PER without having to pay a $60.00 fee.

He's off again on the weekend & his company bought a flexible ticket outbound which meant only 10K points to upgrade which was confirmed today at T-72 so he's grabbed row 4 on the new suites config.

Gotta get in quick for exit row though as grabbed the last exit window seat on his 738 flight back mid-August. Only exit middles left now.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D, Int. bullhead & Dom. Exit

Can anyone with a 747 booking to/from HKG confirm if row 43 or row 60 bulkhead are classed as extra legroom seats?

Also interested in 46A or 46K. Are these able to be selected free of charge?

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D, Int. bullhead & Dom. Exit

(Cant select 60D/E/F/G, 60H/J/K can be selected at no cost (bulkhead?))
60H/J/K are bulkhead seats without the cutout in row 43. Legroom looks a little restricted but no chance of anyone reclining into you. I would also choose the cowling seats 46A/K for that same reason.

Thanks.

Re: QF selling more "extra legroom" Y seats - 80A/K,71D, Int. bullhead & Dom. Exit

Earlier this week I made 2 award bookings in economy and was pleasantly surprised at the seat selection.

- A330 MNL-SYD I was able to select 23J free of charge. Also 45A and 45K were also available free of charge.
- 747 HKG-SYD I was able to select my favourite 43H free of charge.

Is this the same for everyone?

For my ex-SIN flights, I've been able to get 23A/B/J/K free of charge, not sure if that's new. The middle block tends to be always blocked though. Not sure how row 46 works out on the A330, but I thought the exit row is 45?

Apologies you are right. Row 45 exit row window is free of charge.

It is from memory.

I'm seeing the same as well, although I think the slide takes up most of the leg room.

I'm still being charged for exit row on domestic A330s. Maybe they've made a change for international only?

I have sat there before. It is not too bad. One leg on top of the other and no issues at all. Beats sitting behind a chronic recliner every time for that length of a flight....

Guess that works especially well when you're travelling with your partner then. My SWMBO tried row 23, and at her height, she's loving that row so QF flights are now unfortunately rather uncomfortable for me. May be I'll try to put her into an exit row. She would normally prefer a cocoon rather than open space, but do wish me luck.

I know this is not the type of advice that goes well here on AFF but this is where it is great to have a wife who cares about your comfort first and is happy to sit next to you wherever you feel comfortable. And that also includes sitting in separate cabins which means I do not have to refuse an op-up if one came about as some people reluctantly have to do.

Has QF introduced dynamic pricing for exit row seats on international flights? I just booked MEL-SIN return on the A380 and row 35 is AUD99 for QF35 and AUD105 for QF36!
