QF to Europe returns to the Kangaroo Route (via SIN)

Yes. Of course. You have just nailed the major beef for me I realise. I can't apply for points upgrades direct out of Adelaide.

Exactly my sentiments

Welcome to the club. Same applies to BNE. But, on the positive side, there are many many more F and J awards available on EK via QF web site.

Personally we gave up hubbing via SYD years ago and it never made sense to me that QF should duplicate A380 services via DXB. Give that to EK, QF FFs still have access and let QF fly via SIN or Perth (Hahaha).

I've done some 'back of an envelope' kind of stuff using Excel, presuming all J/F pax per a/c type, and 20% of Y+/Y pax are eligible to visit the lounge. All are worst case scenario / full load. In the model, the PAX on all flights start trickling into the lounge up to 4 hours prior departure, with the majority turning up in the period 2 to 1.5 hours prior their departure time, followed by the usual stragglers and duty free shoppers. All depart during the 30 mins prior to boarding.

- Other OW eligible pax in the lounge or stopping by (flights during this time from AY, BA, CX, JL & MH, though not all T1)
Looks good.

Here are the other oneworld SIN flights based on the current timetable.

JL38 0150
JL712 0810
JL36 2150

CX714 0120
CX650 0645
CX710 0800
CX736 0955
CX690 1255
CX734 1605/1815 (varies by day)
CX716 1805
CX636 2010

MH602 0640
MH604 0955
MH614 1105
MH642 1250
MH606 1340
MH620 1635
MH608 1810
MH616 1915
MH610 2115

QR945 0220
QR943 1035
QR947 2125

BA15 1925
BA16 2035
BA12 2315

AY82 2335

UL307 0945

QR and UL are in T3, MH is in T2. The rest of oneworld is in T1, though CX moves to T4 soon (connected to T1/2/3 via bus gate in T2).

AY sends pax to the QF lounge. BA has its own lounge near the QF lounge with capacity of 225. The other oneworld airlines use SATS or Danta lounges. I'd expect maybe 1/3 of the pax getting sent to SATS/Danta lounges to head to the BA or QF lounges when they are open.
When I've been at SIN early when flying on JL38, I've used the QF lounge, then moved to the SATS lounge when QF closes.

So that's another 12 oneworld flights where some pax may head to QF/BA and 4 (AY, BA) that will.

Should also add the 3K flights where some smaller % of pax may have access, probably more than the other oneworld airlines, and 3K does have 18 aircraft based out of Singapore

I might do a bit of an update tomorrow... :)

There are 12 3K flights that depart (at 1545, 1645, 1705, 1755, 1800, 1915, 1930, 1935, 1935, 1950, 2000 and 2030) while the QF lounge is open, while allowing for a reasonable amount of time in a lounge before boarding would be called. 180 Y seats on the above flights. I assume 10-15% would have lounge access via status.
There is also JQ8 departing to MEL at 2100.

Are they all T1? I've never flown 3K or JQ out of SIN

Do QF marketed flights also grant access? (I wasn't sure on SIN lounge access page it seemed to indicated they were for QP members : "Next onward flight that day must be a Qantas^, or Jetstar Airlines+flight number." but different wording for WP's and SG's that indicated marketed and operated)

Anyway if they do, you can also throw in a (probably negligible) number of pax on QF codes on MU to PVG @ 16:35, 23:10 & 00:55, PG to USM @ 17:25 & 20:15, and 9W to DEL @ 19:40 and BOM @ 20:05. Although granted 9W and MU depart from T3.

Qantas reopens Singapore hub, pursuing yield and focusing on London; now has numerous options - Centre for Aviation

Qantas will exit Emirates' Dubai hub and instead reopen one daily Singapore-London flight supplementing a planned Perth-London nonstop. This will give Qantas better feed from Australia to London, continue to grow its Asian hub, and give passengers more choice: other airlines and partnerships focus on one hub, but Qantas and Emirates will be able to offer European travel via Dubai, Perth and Singapore. That also increases traffic and revenues in the JV, which flows back to Qantas under a revenue sharing deal that has been recalculated, surely in Qantas' favour.

I'd think the % would be lower on 3K flights. It's only QF status, not OW status and lots of local/tourist traffic on 3K from what I've seen

Yes agreed. i've been there for an early 3K departure (ie within an hour or so of lounge opening and i've been one of only 3 or 4 people in the lounge).

Some info on the lounge situation in SIN on the AusBT website:

"Australian Business Traveller understands that passengers booked into first class on the Qantas superjumbos which will fly to Sydney and Melbourne from March 2018 will receive the same perks as Platinum One frequent flyers (and Chairman's Lounge members), which amounts to
  • real champagne (usually Veuve Clicquot)
  • priority access to showers
  • shirt pressing, and
  • shoe shine service"

And:
" a Qantas spokesperson confirmed to Australian Business Traveller that "at this stage there are no plans to build a First Lounge in Singapore.""We have an award-winning lounge in Singapore that our customers love," the spokesperson said. "It has been designed with future growth in mind and will be able to support the extra customers using the space as a result of the network change."

I have no doubt QP members love the lounge, but F pax (or WPs and above for that matter)??

LAX has a QF FLounge and that airport has less First Class passengers departing on QF metal than SIN will. They should do one in SIN, but I doubt they will change their mind and do it.

The LAX First lounge is operated by QF, but is actually a oneworld First lounge, serving QF, BA, CX, QR, JL, LA.

Ha, Qantas is kidding re people loving that lounge.

Ha, Qantas is kidding re people loving that lounge.

Only takes two customers to make that statement true.

One can quibble with an F pax's (or P1's) expectations re quality of food / drinks / noise etc. But you can't argue with space and seats. The fact that people struggle to find a seat at peak times now should be ringing alarm bells. According to the same AusBT article there is an increase of 40% capacity on the SYD-SIN leg alone.

I'm sure they can find more seats, and a bit of encouragement to people to only occupy the seat they need (not a pod of 4 for 1 pax) will help. But they should be prepared for some negative commentary from F pax...
