QF32 388 - emergency landing in SIN after Engine failure

Yes, MSNs 47, 50 and 55 are all this month. 47 was meant to be mid Nov.

OQGs delivery flight has been postponed owing to a faulty oil tube in one of the engines according to QF source, news I am sure QF could do without.

FWIW, I have heard that repairs to Nancy-Bird are underway.
That's good news because I heard a rumour last week that it was going to be too difficult logistics wise to repair and that it was going to be sold to SQ for parts,I'm glad that appears to be false.
Cheers

I've heard a variety of rumours about its fate, but thet all seem to be aimed at getting it in the air. They do vary as to whether it will be in the air for Qantas though!

I have been told by some pilots that may or may not work for an airline that it wont be leaving SIN in once piece. But what do pilots know :lol:

It could well be, given the various rumours, that the engineers tasked with fixing it are still arguing over the best approach!

Probably the most bizzarre one I heard was told to me by a passenger on a Rex flight last week,he swore black and blue that it had been sold to the Singapore Government for use as an artificial reef and that people would be able to dive on it.:!:

I can't see QF agreeing to anything other than fixing it for a return to the fleet, no matter what the cost. Why? Because if it did not return, it would be QF's first ever hull loss in the jet age.

Compare the situation with the 747 that went golfing in BKK - stories circulated that insurers wanted to write it off, because the repairs were so expensive - but QF was adamant that it was to be repaired, no matter the cost, because it would NOT lose an airframe.

Sometime this month there will be a 60 minutes report on the QF32. Karl Stefanovic flew up to Singapore about 2 weeks ago to film it.

I'm not sure it has to fly again in the Qantas fleet, or just fly again. One of the rumours is that it will become a test plane.

That would be an interesting logistics exercise. Conceivably taking it apart and shipping the bits back home might be easier than repairing it where it is!

What was in his glass?

The artificial reef thingy would be believeable for somewhere like Dubai, however a minor problem would be getting it there.

I saw what I thought was a tongue in cheek suggestion on a thread in PPRuNe so I reckon the guy I was talking to was "embellishing" that suggestion.

On its last flight it did indeed leave SIN in one piece, but did not arrive back in one piece

I guess Qantas's attitude may be something like this: Its Airbus/RR problem to repair/replace/buy the damaged aircraft and until they make good a repaired/replacement aircraft or a very big cheque Qantas will continue to increment the compensation fund tally. Every day the aircraft is unavailable to fulfil its role in the Qantas fleet is likely to see a substantial increment in the "compensation".
