Re: QF 32 A380 out of action - who is inconvenienced?

Does anyone think SQ, EY and AF will ground their 380's?

Was just wondering the same thing (though I think it's EK, and maybe LH also?)...do they use the same engines as QF I wonder.

AF and EK use Engine Alliance, but SQ and LH use RR. I’m not sure if it’s the exact same model though, but I do think they’ll be interested in the outcome of the investigation.

Joyce called the issue significant and A380 will be off the air off indefinately until QF and ATSB are happy.

Joyce is on 7.30 report

Saw that, was waiting for Kerry to ask him the tough questions...like what are they doing about WP anytime lounge access, but oddly, he didn't ask that.

The other 380 operators have all stated they're not grounding them...from The Age

Imagine being the person that took this picture (posted on pprune), it took 2 hours for the dump and another two hours to get all the pax off after landing:

planetalking has interesting airworthiness report on the RR Trent engine.

pprune suggests parts may have sheared hydraulic system - hence gear doors open and engine 1 still spinning (see the water photo and look at the spray out the back of the engine)

Nothing that hasn't been reported elsewhere but might be good to keep an eye on over the next 72 hrs
ATSB QF 32 Report

The lack of control over engine 1 and the open landing gear doors seen in some pics might point to some of the control and hydraulic lines may have been impacted by whatever went through the wing structure.
In any case great job by the crew to land with 1 engine down and the other on the same side non responsive as it sounds like from a few reports. Im sure more will surface soon, but they sure earned their pay today.

This would certainly explain why the firies were spraying the #1 engine when it was #2 engine that failed.

Either way, even with the engine failure the A380 still had one more engine running than my A330 will have next Monday!

Good to see everyone is OK. Not sure why QF always seemed to have these kind of incidents ....

Rumor mill claims RAAF will be hiring A380's to replace the F111's. They're both designed to drop stuff on Indonesia
