A380. In October 2000, the Trent 900 became the A380's launch engine when Singapore Airlines specified the engine for its order for 10 A380s; this was quickly followed by Qantas in February 2001.
SIA says it has no plans to ground its A380s, in response to questions on whether it will follow Qantas' move.
Does anyone think SQ, EY and AF will ground their 380's?
Was just wondering the same thing (though I think it's EK, and maybe LH also?)...do they use the same engines as QF I wonder.
Joyce just announced that they are suspending all A380 flights.

Just noticed something. What is the bit that is in the red circle?

Edit: Just saw this pic on twitter: Christopher Lee - interviewed on tonight's PM - took thi... on Twitpic
Joyce is on 7.30 report
This would certainly explain why the firies were spraying the #1 engine when it was #2 engine that failed.pprune suggests parts may have sheared hydraulic system - hence gear doors open and engine 1 still spinning (see the water photo and look at the spray out the back of the engine)
I can only imagine the $$ a bunch of idle A380s would be costing for any significant outage.
EDIT: just noticed an orange splash across the top of the QF website now, linking to:
Qantas Major Disruptions - where we keep you informed of developments and the choices that are available to you
Because of all the anti Qantas paranoia and hype you hear about all the QF incidents but not much about when it happens to others.Good to see everyone is OK. Not sure why QF always seemed to have these kind of incidents ....
