Is it possible for Platinum members to request release of Classic Reward seats for other family members (who are travelling on their own ie without the Platinum member)?

I had always thought this was possible, but was told no, from a South African agent first, and then Australian agent when I called again?

Yes it’s possible but the request and points must come from the Platinum members account.

Keep being told that it is not possible - multiple times calling, and speaking to Hobart and other reps..hmm
Definitely possible. I got 1x economy and 1x business seat released for a return PER-SYD journey for my sister earlier this year - she was on her way to Taylor Swift. I was not travelling with her, but points initially came out of my account. Saved her a ton of money given how expensive a cash fare was at the time!

2 x business seats released from PER - SIN, May 25. Very happy with this :)

Also to the poster above, these were actually for family members as I told the agent I was planning to pay my own fare cash. After she released the seats, I asked about paying for my fare and she said to wait until I could potentially secure reward seats for the return leg before booking my own.

So this shows you can definitely have reward seats released for family members even if you haven’t got a ticket on the same flight.

As another data point, I've successfully requested seats to be released for my brother and his girlfriend earlier this year just for them - I wasn't flying, and technically speaking, she's not a family member. But QF were absolutely fine with it.

I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to get some reward seats from SIN - PER released. Tried again today for three different dates which were rejected. This time however the agent created a booking reference for the requested flights which I can now see in my app.

Is this any indication of whether the request is on hold? Or that it might change?

I’m WP so it’s not in manual review.

What would be the rational behind making the booking reference? That’s the first time I’ve had that happen with a reward seat release request

It's the way the non-HBA/AKL call centres process seat requests. They set up a booking and then send the booking to the bot for consideration.

Thanks for the reply. It’s interesting, because I asked at the start of the call which call centre they were in and they said Australia… Then at the end of the call she said she made a booking reference to quote to an agent in the future when trying to request again.

I might have to call through and try get Hobart in the morning and get the the bookings removed
