QF's Asia announcement

Yet another change by Qantas, yet another thread full of concerns (aka "whinges") about QF. I don't understand - QFi are not the lifeline to the western half (or for that matter the eastern half) of Australia. Yet people still stick with Qantas and express dismay when they change things (well folks, this sort of thing has been happening for 6 or 7 years now, you'd think there's a lesson to be learnt). I guess with FCL's , everyday rewards, direct sweep credit cards and Neil Perry inspired/Mark Newson designed press releases, people feel locked into QF. But there are plenty of other options out there, aligned with QF, aligned with VA, or not aligned with either.

As far as ADL goes - QF pulling 3 services a week from ADL, is a bit like IGA closing a supermarket in the same suburb that has a Coles and two Woolworths, with prospects of Aldi opening very soon.

Well, it's a bit like IGA saying we are going to improve the service we offer you by closing our supermarket. But, as a loyal IGA Frequent Shopper you can still earn IGA points by paying us an inflated price for your goods but then collect them at Coles!

Or, you could say screw you IGA, your Frequent Shopper scheme is actually not as good as I thought, so I'll just buy from Coles anyway!

Besides, Coles has newer supermarkets, a bigger range, fresher products, and friendly staff. ;)

Very apt.. Comparatively speaking.. ;)

NAB does the same when advising of a branch closure and says "for your convenience you can use Branch ABC" Which is a branch that has always existed and obviously is not convenient if we didn't go there.

I know this is quibbling, but "Coles" (cough) has 10 across in Y not 9, no W from any port, and such a big price differential between Y and J that J is not attractive.

YMMV, but "Coles" (cough) doesn't suit me.

Just received an email from QF stating my booking had changed. Please review and confirm. Mel to Sin on 9th June to depart at 10am and arrive at 1555. Same times on the way back as listed. Depart Sin 2105 and arrive Mel at 0645. Also a change of equipment to A333's, needless to say I'm not happy. Started as an A380 in J, then to a 744 and now a dirty old angled flat bed on a A333. Dumb!!!

Yep putting A330's on the route is another way to frustrate customers and make them fly with someone else!

You could have been on an angled bed on the 747 so why no annoyance with the first change?

The QF 5/6 between SIN and SYD are also being switched to 333s. Interestingly, it appears the QF 51/52 between SIN and BNE are keeping the 744s.

The aircraft change to A333 popped up in FAQ 2 on the changes, explaining the lack of PE, I initially thought it was going to be OJD.

I have two QF35/36 bookings and they were previously showing reconfigured 747s with mk2 skybeds.

I've got one in September, still waiting to hear about it. My return is on QF52 to BNE so at least I get to sample the B744 skybed on that one.

Oh and the lack of PE... Which is a great product..... oh and no First class

First class fair enough it doesn't really sell
But a sub-par business class and no PE

Guess it means the route won't make money and in another 12 months..............

I today have had to change my June Qf5 and QF6. The QF5 changes have resulted in a time change of an old config 747 being replaced by the 747 refurb. Qf6 changes are from old 747 to QF52 refurb via BNE and my BNE-MEL in an int. config 767.

Just a thought... Maybe finishing all these routes results in earlier fleet retirement and a more streamlined cohesive fleet especially with the alluded 330 refurbishments. As the fleet grows again these routes may yet be re-statred.

. As the fleet grows again these routes may yet be re-statred.

No growth before 2017 at best:

767 - 23 to 0 over next four years.
747 - 18 to 9 over the next year or so
A330 - 19 to 30 if all JQ come across
787 - 14 to JQ
A380 status quo until 2016-17

So 9 747s and 23 767s are replaced by 11 A330s is the net effect until 2017?

If QF was actually serious about Asia they would be refitting the A330's with SkyBed II and Y+ not just talking about possible refits.....

Waiting for 787's in MAYBE 2016 is not a real option

As Markiss has said, there is no fleet growth for QF, it's all about downsizing to save QFi..

Once people leave QF for another carrier be it SQ/EK they will be unlikely to come back

You right! I didn't say they were restarting quickly, maybe in 10 years when the deal with Emirates ends. It will take at least that long to restock the pantry :)

Can you tell me where this was announced?

If I look at the QF website today for a SYD - SIN booking in June or August, it is still showing W as being available on QF5/6, at fairly reasonable prices too. Is it bait and switch?
