QP Perth Renovations

Further to my post four, I've just had a call back from Qantas (a quick response given I only emailed them on Monday).

Unfortunately, WP guest restrictions during anytime access apply so, during the renovation period, no guests period. More unfortunate is the agent's confirmation that the Perth domestic business lounge is not proceeding. Apparently they were unable to gain terminal space.

I also queried whether there'd be a dedicated business/platinum check-in lane and the answer to that is also no. They feel that the new e-check-in thingy will help reduce check-in times.

Yet another erosion of benefits..... more to come, stay tuned

"Unable to gain terminal space?" Rather pathetic cop-out if there ever was one.

Then again, this is PER.

If they have been looking at moving some ops to the neighbouring terminal, then they are restricted by how fast Perth can get the current tenants from that terminal across to Terminal WA. More likely they couldn't get terminal space within the timelines needed for the current refurbs.

DJ had similar issues with the recently opened lounge - dont think the cop out stands, and at least DJ serve beer at 11AM!

e.g. HBA was closed for renovations for a few months circa 2002 - No alternate provision for members during this time.

Contrast this with Cairns recently where at least those with access rights received F&B vouchers on request.

10.5 Entry of Members' guests will be subject to space availability

I tend to think this was clause was intended to cover busy periods, not a result of a slow response to developing an overused facility after far too long. Its bad enough to still be putting up with J class on "****ty Flyer" 737-400s, but now I won't be be able to bring the current floozy into the lounge!

Here's a wild idea for how QF could reduce numbers in the lounge

have their flights actually depart at their scheduled departure times.

A bit OT, but why have the QPs restricted the opening time of the bar? I was gobsmacked that the bar in perth doesn't open until 2, and I assumed it was all those miners that now means we can only have light beer on the aircraft. But I was a bit surprised when the Melbourne J lounge's bar didn't open until 12. What's happened?

Radical idea.

On the plus side, this rule should keep the number of kids running around down (assuming the kids aren't members in their own right)

Simple answer: cutting costs.

Until about 6 years ago, QP bars in the larger airports did not open until 3pm; it did change to 1pm around 2003 and then to Noon roughly 3 years ago.

BTW, Since their opening in 2008, Domestic J lounge bars have opened at noon.

I finally got the e-mail, the only reason I can think of is I now have a flight for 19/01 so that's why it has triggered an e-mail out to me.

I've got no bookings to PER in the system at present (although I took 6 trips there last year). I've found they stagger their emails out often, with people I know getting the email a few days either side of me. Would make sense I guess.

Back in the mid-nineties I recall they opened earlier, but then Ansett was still operating

When I left the PER QP this morning, the are to the left handside at the bottom of the QP exit escalator was all boarded up with some sort of work going on. This is the area behind the information desk, and below the food service area of the QP.

Maybe they are going to expand the QP into this area.

In From 1994 when I joined QP until Ansett's demide in 2001, both the QPs' and Golden Wings' Bars opened at 3pm.

Just found this...
Perth Qantas Club and Chairmans Lounge Redevelopment - Airline News - etravelblackboard.com

That may be the new CL. The existing CL would be incorporated into the QP I would imagine.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

At breakfast time the lounge is very small, and guests are directed to a lounge downstairs and to the left.

Here are some photos from it, it has a very limited food selection and no internet. I've come back up to the main lounge and begged my way in (along with karens, who has to fly out an hour later than I do!) so I could get online to post these photos!
