Question about the forum software

I think the previous version looked "cleaner" to me, and and in some way less cluttered. I guess i get used to this version!

I'm used to it already! Most things are in the same place, and the New Posts link is in a better position. The addition of colour is an improvement.

It does look a little cluttered in places, but that shouldn't be too difficult for admin to change.

Personally I do not like it.

One reason is that by having a user's/poster's/handle banner above every post rather than beside the post makes each page sooo much longer for every post and hence requires far more scrolling to effectively view!

I assume Clifford likes it...

I can't see how it would make the page longer. If the username was at the side then the width available for post information would be less and so the body of the text would take up more space surely?

Dave

I quite like the new look - the colours and format make it a little easier to read. :)

No Dave. For my viewing at least, the display frames containing posts appear to have a similar effective width as before. The identification frames that were to the left of this took up space that is now occupied by an expanded (width wise) left hand menu structure.

It depends. If you had a short post and an avatar then previously the length taken up on the page is the avatar plus a tiny bit, and now it is the avatar plus a tiny bit for the header and then plus some more for the body of the post.

I don't know if I'm imagining it but the side panel with featured article, trip report and ads does seem to be wider than the previous side panel (ads plus avatar).

My guess would still be logging anomaly! User count appears very high.

Users online doesn't just count those logged in but also includes guests (not logged in)

Does anyone know if it includes web crawlers such as Google and other search engines?

How to tell programmers are at work:

11:26
Sorry, the board is unavailable at the moment while we are testing some functionality.

We will be back very soon. Less than 2 minutes

2 minutes later:

Time estimates are such an art :)

Probably. I have seen said crawlers in the who's online before.

Wierd. I didnt get that message until after I made the post just below yours.

Hmm, How long has that Permalink thing been next to the post number in the thread. I haven't noticed it before.

Maybe it took that two minutes to code the message, so it needed to be extended.

Methinks less than a couple of hours...

I'm guessing there were some more tweaks just now

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/freqfly/public_html/community/includes/config.php on line 1

Yes I had factored guests into the equation.

I still stand by logging anomaly.

More changes! I've just noticed that we now have membership levels.

Paying to remove advertising is cool, although I was not expecting to lose a few forum features if I did not pay.

Quick question about the limit of 10 PMs for the Basic level subscriber: I have 14 PMs right now, a combination of received and sent messages. Does that mean that no-one can send me a PM because I'm over the limit?

Aside from the reduced number of PM's, is there any other feature you do not get at the Basic level that you have now. That was the only thing I could really see.
