Aside from the reduced number of PM's, is there any other feature you do not get at the Basic level that you have now. That was the only thing I could really see.

Visibility of who is online, ability to become invisible and have signatures.

Pretty inconsequential stuff, although getting rid of the ads would be a good thing for me.

I think the description of gold membership has a typo - the 5% discount for Columbus should probably be 5% discount for Hotel Club.

Did you receive the PM I sent you?

More changes! I've just noticed that we now have membership levels.

Paying to remove advertising is cool, although I was not expecting to lose a few forum features if I did not pay.

Quick question about the limit of 10 PMs for the Basic level subscriber: I have 14 PMs right now, a combination of received and sent messages. Does that mean that no-one can send me a PM because I'm over the limit?

I must be the only person in the known universe that doesn't have a paypal account....

Thanks for pointing that out. Yes it was a typo!

The page is now correct: 5% discount for Hotel Club, 20% discount for Columbus Direct Travel Insurance, 40% discount for Frequent Flyer Friend.

Clifford,

Yes, I did receive it, giving me a total of 15 PMs. When I tried to reply, I received the following error:

The following errors occurred when this message was submitted:
You have reached your stored private message quota and can not send any further messages until space has been created.

After clearing out old messages I was able to send the PM to you.

It's possible that the Admin account can send PMs to anyone who is at or over their message limit. Perhaps mere mortals will be blocked. It would be good if the system performed an "auto-scroll", i.e. just flushed out the oldest message in the Inbox to make room for a new message automatically.

Seeing who is online and the signature line were the two I use, although no big deal to lose them, I guess.

- Earn 100,000 bonus Velocity Points
- Get unlimited Virgin Australia Lounge access

Yep. I haven't lost anything that I really can't do without.

Thanks. Since I come in through link to search I didn't see any announcement.

Ironically I want to send admin a PM (on an unrelated matter) but cannot due to the change.

Thats right! We especially designed the Membership program so that Regular Users can still continue to participate fully in the Community.

The paid options are entirely optional - but they will give you a much better viewing experience and of course those discounts. The Travel Insurance discount alone could cover the cost of membership. eg. Worldwide Annual Multi Trip from Columbus Direct (Travel Insurance - from Columbus Insurance) would cost $200 instead of the regular $250

That link has the ")" parenthiesis in the wrong place. (BTW, I can't locate any reference in the Columbus insurance T&C's to cover if lost ff points).

What is confusing? There was a thread recently where it was asked about being able to have a subscription facility which would provide an advert free access. Admin has worked on this and is now offering it, together with benefits such as discounted travel insurance from a company that already is ,ime, about the best value in Australia.

No one is being forced to go to a paid subscription but is being offered for those that wish it

Make that 3...

Things change, or in Qantas speak, get enhanced.

I am not sure about it being the best value; however, it certainly is cheap. Until it covers loss of FF points/miles and will insure those with controlled mild medical conditions such as Hypertension or Diabetes without the need for a pre-medical, my Jury is still out.

Exactly. The option lies with the member. Personally I think choice is a good thing. I have seen this type of paid subscription membershp work well on other BBS.

And there is no cost to establish a PayPal acconut.

Personally, I am not fussed about FF points being insured per se and so has been the insurance company of choice for me recently even without discounts. There has hardly been any negative enhancements imo other than a reduction in the number of PMs that can be stored. I think that offering a service where the advertisements have been completely removed is a genuine enhancement .

It seems like a no-win situation running the board; some people request a paid facility to remove the adverts to provide a cleaner experience but when it is provided , complaints come about that

Have just finalised negotiating a deal with Expert Flyer.

Gold Subscribers now qualify for a 15% discount on their 1st subscription payment. Thats worth approximately $20 (Aussie $) for an annual subscription. Even more reason to become a Gold Subscriber :p

By the way, as part of the deal with Expert Flyer, all our members (and yes, thats including the free Basic members) can get a free Guest Pass entitling you to trial Expert Flyer Service. See HERE for more.

Of course. But remember the customer is always right, Dave.

Althought to be honest I don't see any complaints here. Just a few questions. :-|
