I'm guessing then that it only affects those of us that get to see advertisements! Not knowing what Dave Noble's and NM's subscription status is, maybe why they are not having the problem,
Hmmm... I hadn't thought about that. You may be right. :(

While I accept that it costs money to run AFF, I assume that the site earns revenue from advertising. It wouldn't be able to attract advertisers without having a good level of participation from membership who donate their time to post information, help one another and make it an online community. It works both ways.

OK, so the new pop-up that is appearing this morning is a little better than the previous one - it is no longer making the browser go haywire.

Quick question though - I am already subscribed to the gazette, so I click on the cancel button. Do I need to click on OK and re-subscribe to remove it? Or is it only removed by paying $$$?

Is anyone else having problems with using the scroll bar to scroll up and down on ths site?? Seems to be a newly acquired behaviour for IE, but specific to this site. Firefox is ok.

I had problems yesterday using the scroll bar and even accessing the site and was worried that something on my end was wrong but when I opened things up this am, once I cleared the pop-up things have gone OK

Hmmm... the advertisements between the posts have at least been somewhat relevant to the forum so far.

However I've just noticed that there is now an advert for a dating service, complete with pics of the ladies with their stats.

I must say this is a bit tacky. :(

Can't say I have seen these appear. And I want to know why not!

I see, yes, I tried posting the same text and got the same error. Quite why you would end up on the blog is a mystery, but is obvioulsy the way it is configured.

It has something to do with the way it is processing the URL's in the message

Yeah, I surmised that, or something to do with the tags .. (LIST, QUOTE etc) but haven't had time to chase it up much more.

There's an AFF blog?!

Yes, something I stumbled across. Not sure there are any links to it anywhere, as with Serfty I accidently ended up there.

I saw it a few days ago.

A pretty much hidden link right down the bottom of the page.

Seems to have been around for a few weeks now...

When displaying all the threads in a forum next to the thread title is the number of posts and the view count.

I just viewed the last post in "The Totally off-topic thread" then clicked on reply and posted in the thread yet the view count remained on 38,490! Plus oz_mark has since viewed the thread as well and replied but the view counter is still 38,490!

I know I have a boring life but I am interested in figures and this is not the first time this has happened to me. Anyone know when the view counter on a thread is incremented?

View counts seem to update every few minutes, not continuously. It may be every 5 or 10 mins, not sure of the exact timing.

Indeed, I think there is some cacheing going on, presumably for efficiency reasons.

Anyone else experiencing the screen flickering, or jumping, when logged on to AFF? It is happening at regular intervals and is driving me crazy! I started noticing it a couple of days ago

It is not happening on any other website.
