It seems we have lost all posts from the last 24 hours???

AFF was up earlier and it seems all posts from then were lost when it went down later. Not sure the earliest time that posts were lost but earlier than 5am SYD time.

Scanning through the different forums it looks like all posts between about 10am yesterday and 10am today have been lost.

Could not get onto the site at all yesterday afternoon. Today was looking promising until mid morning when there was another outage.

The joys of IT (not my field of expertise by any means)

aye it is when it is down for a while that appreciate more the efforts to keep the site up and running

Firstly, apologies for the (major) outage we had yesterday from about 10 am till this morning.

You might recall that we had a few server outages last month. Not wanting to repeat those problems, we did some investigation and concluded that our WebServer need upgrading. So, we leased a new dedicated Sydney-based server with plenty of capacity. Conversion to the new server was originally planned for late Sunday evening/early Monday morning (a quiet time) and shouldn't have lasted more than a couple of hours. As it turned out the hardware wasn't ready till late Monday morning. Then to make matters worse, the file transfers kept failing so the whole conversion process took significantly longer than anticipated!

Anyway, the new server is now up and running smoothly and we don't expect any further problems. (Some consolation: you should also notice improved performance. This is much faster – and more expensive - computer!)

We closed the Board before conversion began on Monday morning, so there were no posts lost on Monday. However, there was a period of about an hour this morning, just when the new server was coming on stream, when some (not more than 10) posts could have been lost. For that I apologise.

Thanks for your patience over the last day. Hopefully we will now all get to enjoy a faster-loading, and more stable website.

Thanks admin - we appreciate all that goes into the smooth (almost all the time) running of the site.

Thanks for the update admin - I am sure we will all appreciate this.

Thanks for clarifying the new geographic location of the server. A little tweaking if my policy-based routing and I am now 9 hops and 40ms away instead of 21 hops and 614ms away!

And I suspect those 10 or so posts that went into the ether were mostly from Kiwi Flyer and me, so no real harm done  .

Well, it certainly wasn't any of my posts...I'd been trying and getting the basis error message yesterday, then the 8.30am (updated) message this morning.

Wasn't a problem as I knew nobody else was getting through either and got more work done today (which was fortunate given my afternoon).

Have already noticed the speedy loading of pages. Excellent work, admin.

At the moment AFF is very unstable for me.

This 'post reply' took close to a minute to initiate. Earlier on, timed out trying to view new posts in a thread and while trying to reply to another thread had an invalid link error message.

Using firefox on an ADSL+2 connection via airport extreme router -getting pretty good connection to the site - no major dramas for me.

Fine here, though still not as fast on my old box this end as it was with the earlier smaller less featured phpBB software.

Time for an upgrade, Mr serfty  Didn't they tell you that Windows 3.1 is no longer a supported operating system? And I think my mouse has more processing power than a 80386 with 2MB of RAM.

I was dragged kicking and screaming to XP; only when I could no longer get win98 drivers ...

I don't plan to touch 'vista' until at least 2010 ... :-|

So you continue to avoid the bleeding edge technologies then :?: .

At least MS don't write the Avionics suite for the A380 or 787. But then again, you might that RC has something to do with it  .

More like I prefer to wait until an OS has been around for a few years; nothing like a bit of Gamma testing to inspire one's confidence.

Never have been in a huge rush to fly in a B787 or A380 either...

(esp. the 787; the composite 1 piece cylindrical fuselage structure is really new ...)

I see no issues when its new. But just how long is the life expectancy and how well has that been simulated? The new ones are likely to be fine, but after 10 years of service how well will they stand up?

I try not to think about that. Thanks for reminding me
You are welcome. Just hope they don't confuse the ILS with the IFE when wiring it all up  . Now what version design software are they using this week?
