Rockfords discussion

Just had some 2005 Flaxman.
This is one delicious wine.
There just may be some available for non Stonewallers in April ;)

I tasted this one last time, and I believe I have two bottles in my cellar.

Amazing wine!

When do you think the best drinking is?

Never available cellar door but might, and I do stress might, be available in the Stonewall room for those attending an event.

Last time I was there I heard Rockford may not do the SVS (Special Vineyard Selection) Flaxman and Hoffman anymore. I've had the 2002s and 2004s but didn't get the 2005s. They are lovely wines but I wouldn't hang on to the 2 and 4s for much longer as I think the fruit is diminishing - so why risk it?

Does anyone play in the Black Magnum golf event in April?

SVS are definitely a special wine, and give a bit of insight into the different sub-regions which go into the "big labels". It would be a real pity if they stopped.

Nope, but I would really like to. A bit harder being based in Vic than SA I fear.

Also new is the 2014 Frugal Farmer. This is by far the best vintage of this wine yet. Quite impressed by it actually.

I tried one of the 2014 earlier this week.

WOW - definitely more body than previous vintages. A great food wine, and a very approachable style. I shall try to order some more before they sell out. Definitely the best vintage yet!

We weren't a fan of the Frugal Farmer as last years tasting...must stock up on more Moppa next visit

I love the 2014 also but have only tried the 13 and 14 so don't have much to go on

If I'm not a stonewaller and wanted some of the BP, when should I turn up at their cellar's doors? March or April?

I've called and emailed but their reply is consistent: it will be after March with no dates given or general availability either.

The first or second weekend in March is the usual "guidance".

However it is always subject to stock availability.

I just re-read this and some other things on the blog. Thanks for posting.

Nowadays Robert has very little to do with the business day to day, but he is still very much the "face" of Rockford.

I have met Ben a couple of times, and he is a lovely young chap, and clearly an excellent winemaker. He tells the story that he lives up in the Eden Valley and often takes a different route to and from work so he can pop by different growers, and taste the fruit daily or even twice daily around vintage.

Anybody had a chance to try the 2013 Rod & Spur yet? Saw it became available last week. Very interested in seeing how this one follows up on the 2012.
