>>>> ADDED 30 Sept 2010 <<<<

Background to this thread:

In a similar vein to the "Flight Availability / Upgrade Probability Help Desk" there has an increase in the posting of questions about specific seat allocation/availability on a flight. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with such queries. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.

This new consolidated thread is where you can ask questions about seating allocation/availability. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve usability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread:

Please post questions about availability of specific seats in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, Origin, Destination, date and cabin as applicable.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

If you're booking exit rows, do check back every now and then in case the config has changed. In which case, they might just leave you in your original seats rather than moving you to the exit rows. If choosing row 6, you can pretty much just leave it alone until T-80, when you try to move up.

Thanks, Awesom Andy, for the extra tip!

Especially as they are subbing in 737s a lot for 767s at the moment. I went from front to way down the back...

Once we flew SYD - MEL and selected row 25 on a 767. They did a sub to a 737, and left us at row 25 so we sat at the 2nd last row! :(

I spotted the same thing on an upcoming booking, from Row 24 at the front to 24 near the back. Fixed that up quick smart.

What's the best way to remain updated with possible aircraft change?

I set up seat alert with EF but got no warning presumably as the whole aircraft was subbed.

Only on (OCD) browsing did I notice the subbing and managed to get back to my exit row seats.

What would you do then to keep up to date with possible subbing short of scanning it every now and then ?

Or did I set EF alert incorrectly somehow ?

Thanks

However, I don't want to be at the back of the plane, so should I select seats in row 6 now and hope to change them to row 4 closer to travel dates? Also, the exit row seats were available when we tried to do seat selection, if we select these do we have to pay extra for them? Or, does Plat get them for free? (if this sounds like a silly question, apology!)
You will be fine in row 6 if that is where you are stuck.

Exit rows for domestic flights are free for Platinums to select but these are at row(s) 13 and 14 and a lot further back than row 6.

Thanks, JohnK.

Have selected row 6 seats last night for all flights in April next year - wide open of course. We are probably the only ones who have booked those domestic flights this far in advance! Will check T-80 next year for row 4.

Hi Everyone, not sure if this is the right place to ask? Flying solo Air NZ next year J class NZ8 AKL - SFO 8/2/14 and return NZ 83 YVR - AKL 27/2/13 does anyone have any recommendations on the best seats and availability? I booked through a travel agent so will have to go through them to select seats and want to get it right. Thanks!

You can get the booking reference (PNR) from your TA and access the seat maps on NZ website.

All J seats in the 777 have direct aisle access so it's pretty much just a question of window or centre seat.

Lots of NZ regulars propone 7A or 7K as they have some privacy - I do like 1A or 1K, especially if a 744.

Nothing wrong (most of the time) with a disembarkation delay of a few extra minutes - from the exit rows

Not like we are talking about LAX scrummage where every second counts.

If you are in a rush, sure, go for row 6.

My next ones are in row 14 as we are not in a rush (the 12 Apostles will still be there for me, I'm positive of that).

Hi all,
Unfortunately I didn't renew my expert flyer subscription. Can anyone help me out with availability QF7 on 2 November 2013?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Most of the time my time is very tight. I arrive and I want to spend 10-15 minutes in lounge before rushing off to collect bag from carousel/baggage services and then bus/train.

Just wondering whether anyone is able to advise whether VA696 PER-MEL on 8 Nov is likely to be old config in J (2-3-2) or new config (2-2-2), or is it just the luck of the draw? (assuming the A330 doesn't get swapped out, of course - I hope not, as this is my first trip in J!!!)? Not able to access seat map for this flight as seat selection not working and also will not be able to do OLCI as it is part of an international itinerary, so have to check in at PER airport.

Many thanks!
