Spice bar at Melbourne Qantas Domestic Business Lounge

I couldn't find a Brisbane domestic business lounge thread other than one that is closed, so apologies for the off-topic post, but what do they serve there for food nowadays around dinner time?
Rice and curry last time I was there, which was no different to what was being served in the Qantas Club.

I've noticed Asian chefs (not cooks?)
Actually the gentlemen dunking the noodles when I was last there referred to himself as being a "cook" when we were discussing laksa recipes... Heard a few Michelin Starred chefs referring to themselves as cooks too. Does it matter? 🤔

Must say there has been zero evidence of any professional cook/chef/culinarily experienced person being involved in creating any of the NP "haute cuisine" Ive been offered in whY and (sadly) also J, on my recent adventures... surely NP and his ponytail are past their respective use by dates.. btw the 90s are calling...

Obviously I fully recognise, appreciate and pay due respect to all those involved in sourcing, preparing, cooking and transporting the food QF serves its customers. My comments are directed to those with responsibility for the marketing bs around the QF inflight dining offering and the reality experienced by thousands of QF customers every day when they sigh, look at each other and whisper, "geeze, I thought the food would be a bit better given what they charging us and we are flying overseas..." 🤔 sorry OT. Rant over

Well I also had the "teriyaki thing" the other day and for the first time I was disappointed in the spice bar:

The ginger was the hilight for me! The chicken had the lightest Teriyaki taste to it and was also a bit dry. Bar the ginger, the whole thing was just bland (yes, I know I could have added from the side spice bar bar) - the supposed "hero element" as the masterchef types might say - the Teriyaki Chicken was just kind of meh for me unfortunately.

I've had this previously and my thoughts precisely!

I've never been wowed by the spice bar at this lounge. Obviously PER if PERfect but I feel the pizza option in the J lounge is the best of these local specials. Sure, it's only pizza but I've never been disappointed by the pizza.

Yes I had this on the 11/12 and thought it was very bland. To make it worse there were no sauces available on the condiments bar. The only way I could make it edible was by sprucing it up by mixing in some of the curry from the buffet!

Or mix it with the mapo option?

At least the condiments were there when I had it on Dec 7. Problem is I didn't want to "ruin" the teriyaki taste by overpowering it. Given there was virtually none I could probably have gone to town, but that kind of ruined the point of the dish imo.

Same menu as Saturday. This time I tried the dish without the black vinegar - tasted alright …

Same menu this evening. I thought it was one of the better Spice Bar dishes in recent memory. I didn't hate the black vinegar - gave it some flavour.

Lounge was very quiet. ~30% seats occupied around 6:30pm.

A staff member also walked around the lounge handing out ice cream sandwiches for Christmas.

Yea a staff member was distributing ice creams around 4 pm as well … didn’t feel like having one, but others seem to enjoy it … Melbourne is very hot today.

San choi bau on offer earlier this week - with pork, or with mushrooms. Sampled the pork:

Was fresh and a generous serve. But very bland. Chef added the red chillis. I added the kimchi and the chilli/oil from the self-serve bar alongside. Ended up a nice dish!
