SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Okely dokely kids - here is the desk that you all walk past every time you enter / exit TPR:

Something has changed - what is it?

Wasn't there a departure board behind the desk?
100% correct - there WAS a departure board mounted on wall where the 2 pictures now hang - it was removed last Thur Oct 13 - so there is absolutely zero visual indication of flt deps / gates / delays / gate changes etc - you now must go seek out SQ staff member on duty to ascertain any info.

SQ Lounge staff adamant removal was not an SQ initiative rather Changi Airport Group who have decreed dep board no longer warranted in TPR and would not be maintained so they removed it. SQ lease this space and in no way own it - clearly little control over it also - this is madness in the extreme.

Dep boards still exist at entry to SKL F and J Lounges but not TPR - go figure - I will certainly be sending off an expression of my utter disatisfaction in the strongest terms with this action to [email protected] - I respectfully request as many as possible please do the same - it is lunacy.

You can now get your suit pressed in TPR but you cannot find out your flt dep time / gate etc without physically seeking out a SQ staff member who are not always manning desk at entrance.

wow that sounds ridiculous!

I flew out of MEL on 218 Sun Oct 9 conn 802 to PEK 08:30. On entering dep lounge SQ staff advised my R seat 2C was faulty and would not deploy to bed - no biggie I said I will sit 2C and yes will sleep if they can make up 2D as bed - no biggie all agreed and we boarded.

As I had eaten bfast in TPR I had BTC fillet steak and asked it be served as late as poss as BTC was going to be my lunch and not brunch as listed for flt. All goes to plan after takeoff 2D made up as bed and I slept for 4hrs and then they woke me for lunch as agreed.

I moved back to 2C for lunch and they set about returning 2D to seating state. Unfortunately something in this suite malfunctioned and it took 2 or 3 crew members ~15 mins to get back to seat position. During that time my IFE system in 2C malfunctioned couple of times and had to be reset 2 times but after that did not miss a beat - ate lunch and all is good.

Shortly after IFS appears and starts apologising profusely for the inconvenience I had experienced and presented me with this:

S$200 inflight DF voucher such a wonderful and totally unexpected gesture for so little inconvenience - gotta love SQ huh?

I had a seat failure in Y on SQ 220 SYD-SIN on the A380 back in 2010. Seat back would not return completely upright. I think the coupon then was for $50. Must be standard for seats. I think coupon can only be spent on-board.

It's already tucked away in the Ette's travel wallet - 12mth window so no doubt she will find something either totally useless or she doesn't need to spend it on.

I know that R travellers can utilise TPR at will, but I am wondering how far I can stretch the friendship. I land at about midnight so will head there for a nightcap before catching some zzzs in one of the transit hotels. I then plan to breakfast in TPR before heading into town to meet friends. Lastly, when I return to SIA later that evening I intend to return for my third visit before flying out 23 hours and 50 minutes after arriving.

Too much?

Supplementary question - A friend will be flying SIN-ADL in Y the same evening as I fly out to CDG. Is she able to check-in with me at the F/R check in area?

Absolutely OK - provided you are holding arr and dep BPs as you will be you can access as many times as you wish - the type of plan you are contemplating is nothing new and is often followed by other pax.

Yes that will not be a prob - SQ R / F pax are Kings and Queens in SQ staff eyes - just notify F checkin staff you have been socialising together and they will readily accomodate your friend. You can also invite your friend to join you in SKL F Lounge but not into TPR.

Thanks CE. I don't think she has set foot in an airline lounge before, so she will be very spoilt. Her sister is travelling with me to CDG but on VN in J so she gets to visit a different lounge.

You may not need the transit hotel depending on your body clock from your point of departure. We just grabbed a nap on the couches or as I recall in one of the meeting room arrangements in the TPR.
