SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

folks what's the difference in First between 777-300 and 777-300ER - both seat maps on expertflyer are showing 8 seats - does this mean both will be "old" first? or potentially one will be the refurb'd cabin, but with 8 seats?

cheers

Edit: TH Royal Silk lounge in T1

Understandable oversight. Wouldn't bother with a visit to T1 for this lounge. Not that it's bad - it's fit for purpose, mainly SIN originating passengers taking the TG flight. Not really for those on long layovers.

Not necessarily - 773 and 77W have identical 'old' F - 77WN has 'new' F - new F can be found in 77WN with 8 or 4 F seat config in F cabin.

TBH - NFI how you determine which 300Er is which without searching if PE I never care which F I get - F is F - flight timings much more important to me. I really do not know how you differentiate 300ER old from new without checking if PE available and then that does not give you full story - others would know more.

All 777-300 have old 2006 F.
Any 777-300ER that flies a PeY route will have new 2013 F with only 4 seats in the cabin.
There are 6 other 777-300ER with an 8 cabin new F and 11 other 777-300ER with * cabin old F

thanks both.

so avoid the 300 if you don't want to enter the "new F" lottery - but even then there's no way to tell based on Danger's stats.

There are lots of semi-comfortable places to sleep all over the airport ( in public areas) , just not in the lounges. There are very specific slumber zones with slumber seats as well as other places where you can stretch across several seats. I think the logic is people who are in lounges can afford hotels. :p At most airports it's the other way around.

If I had to spend the night there (not that I would) it would probably be in a public area.

I had a layover recently and both transit hotels were full. In the larger SQ J lounge (T3?) there are a few sofas in the far left corner that you can stretch out and sleep on. Front desk staff will provide pillow and blanket on request, and insisted on following me back to the couch, noting where i was sleeping, and sending someone to wake me up at my required time. Great service, but there are only a handful of those couches, and none in the other lounge.

There is a SKL lounge and Gold KF lounge in both T2 and T3: Our lounges

Thanks guys..

Will be exploring all SQ lounges then.. will probably skip Royal Silk Lounge.

Actually its not so difficult. All the PeY routes use new 4 cabin F. The remaining new 8F cabins always serve the same routes barring late equipement substitutions
SQ305/306 SQ 318/319 to LHR
SQ227/228 to MEL
SQ1/2 to HKG/SFO
SQ631/636 to HND

fair enough - will have a dig for a menu on SQtalk as that seems like it'll be the clincher.

Haneda or Narita - trying to choose which I should fly out of in F? Lounge situation? Haneda is guess is easier to get to?

Lounge wise there doesn't seem to be a difference? Doesn't seem to have anything special like the sushi bar at JAL First lounge?

There's a 'dine on demand' menu for the ANA suites lounge: https://www.ana.co.jp/wws/japan/e/asw_common/checkin/lounge/pdf/hnd_anasuitelounge_1609.pdf and a special limited dining menu: https://www.ana.co.jp/wws/japan/e/asw_common/checkin/lounge/pdf/dining_h_food_1609_rev.pdf

The NRT lounge menu doesn't seem to have the special dining option: https://www.ana.co.jp/wws/japan/e/asw_common/checkin/lounge/pdf/nrt_anasuitelounge_1609.pdf

Both from this page: https://www.ana.co.jp/wws/vn/e/asw_common/serviceinfo/inflight/guide/lounge/

If this is at the end of a stay in Japan, the lounge food should not enter into the equation.

if the JL sushi tastes good to you, then please get out more in Japan. Entirely different level.

Thanks for that info. Looks like I'll go with HND as the time also allows a full day of exploring.

This will be a day or two stop on the way back from a month in Europe and I plan on making the most of my time eating some good Japanese sushi that's for sure! :)

Well that was about as underwhelming as it could get. Just checked in for my F/R flight SYD-xSIN-CDG and I might as well have been flying economy.

Now I wasn't expecting rose petals and heavenly choirs, but still:

"Here is your boarding pass, express pass and immigration card".

I asked if there was an invitation to TPR: "No, it is printed on your boarding pass. Just go to the lounge in SIN and they will let you in".

"Are you sure"? I ask in my best CE impression. "Yes, we don't have them here" was the reply.

I was then asked if I had been to the lounge in SYD before and when I said no: "It's opposite gate 51".

End of conversation. Even JQ wish me a pleasant flight.

should be better once ensconced in the lounge - 2 managers in the F section are a lovely south african lady, and sub-continent gent - both always willing to go the extra mile ime.

Thats disappointing to hear! Hopefully once you stepped on board it was all it's meant to be!

Looking forward to hearing how the rest of the flight/experience was...

Ask at lounge entrance - if they still give you negative response just quote that it is SQ Protocol for TPR Invitations to be handed to ALL R/F guests prior to dep. MEL and SYD are the worst offenders right across the planet in this respect - PVG last few times have handed me TPR invitation at BP scan at gate - PEK always at check in - ALL other ports always at check in - MEL and SYD PITA.

SQ SIN send all stationery stock to all dep ports - so BPs etc etc incl TPR Invitation stock are sent from SIN - so if they tell you they don't have stock they are telling blatant lies.

So ask at SYD F Lounge desk - and you have stopover at SIN right? When you check in at SIN F tell them your story and ask why MEL and SYD do not comply with SQ protocol - then after that send off your feedback to [email protected].

Have fun!
