Well that was about as underwhelming as it could get. Just checked in for my F/R flight SYD-xSIN-CDG and I might as well have been flying economy.

Now I wasn't expecting rose petals and heavenly choirs, but still:

"Here is your boarding pass, express pass and immigration card".

I asked if there was an invitation to TPR: "No, it is printed on your boarding pass. Just go to the lounge in SIN and they will let you in".

"Are you sure"? I ask in my best CE impression. "Yes, we don't have them here" was the reply.

I was then asked if I had been to the lounge in SYD before and when I said no: "It's opposite gate 51".

End of conversation. Even JQ wish me a pleasant flight.
We had the same experience in Melbourne, fortunately the lounge is far more accomodating. Enjoy!

Sounds very much like our QF F experience at LHR

Good news - but pls make sure you ask staff at SIN check in what is the protocol and then convey your SYD experience to them - ask is this acceptable?

We have always disagreed on this :) I don't see the need for a first class passenger to be running around making a big deal of a lounge invitation. A grown adult shouldn't be asking if the lack of a TPR invite is acceptable behaviour.

This may be the only time I fly this class with this airline. I would like any of the souvenirs that I am entitled to. It is only because I knew (was told) to ask for one that I have it. Others may not know what they should receive and have a lessor experience because of it. If I can help improve that, then I shall.

Then you don't need to ask for one MEL - JT wanted a souvenir - please direct your response at her and tell her she is out of line for wanting the TPR invitation as a souvenir.

Asking 'is this acceptable?' is the unnecessary bit IMO. If JT wants a souvenir all she needs do is ask for one. Making a huge deal and wanting SIN to answer whether it's acceptable behaviour? What will the answer be? 'No madam, it's not acceptable'... then what? How does that add to JT's experience?

As you say in your opinion - my opinion differs - you have no idea the number of R and F pax I have assisted to get their souvenir TPR invitations over the journey - you also have no idea exactly how appreciative they have been once they are in possession - if it's ok with you I'll run my race and you run yours.

I'll be in exactly the same boat ... er ... lounge ... in a few weeks so I hope a little nudge from you will make it better for those that follow (well, one, anyway :) ).

The trouble is I did ask for one and was told they don't have them. It was only after CE's suggestion that I ask at the F lounge that I was handed one - and as it turned out, by the same person who had turned me down an hour earlier. If my comments in SIN can help remedy that 'inconsistency' then I am all for it.

I might need to split off a "TPR invite" sub-forum! ;)

Had similar experience flying out of IAH..BUT I had read from Cruiser that I only need to ask...So when I arrived at SIN I asked at the TPR entry and within 10 minutes they brought them to me. 1 for me and 1 for my daughter, who at 16 did not know what hit her with the service she had received over the previous 20 hours..

I think they may just need to improve the consistency of the offer..

Well maybe not in this manner, but I think SQ would like to know that their contractors are not following procedure.

Given how many times this procedural "fail" has apparently been reported, you would think they would know.
So the implication is .....? :)

SQ are indeed aware of the non adherence to written protocols - following rcvd from SQ Feedback:
Mr Elite

Thank you for your enquiry on the invitations to The Private Room (TPR) in Sydney and Melbourne.

We wish to share that at the Sydney airport, invitation to the TPR is handed to the passenger when they are present at the lounge.

Our investigations with our Melbourne Station revealed that they missed out handing you the TPR invitation for your flight SQ218 / 14 June 2016. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. Your experience has been conveyed to our Station Manager Melbourne. He has counselled the staff concerned, so as to prevent recurrences. Mr Elite, please be assured that this was an isolated incident, and we would strive to do better in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us. We wish you a pleasant day ahead.
Feedback re non issuance was indeed undertaken after SQ F check in staff at SIN advised me to do so - seems the message still not quite getting through.

Now just so we don't get MEL's knickers all twisted up again these TPR Invitations are just a great souvenir for the once off / occasional SQ R or F pax - I have never met a first time flyer who was not tickled pink when received - all I try to do is enhance the exp of those pax. Hell I have a wad of them - no biggie to me if I receive or not - those who fly once or occasionally love them as souvenirs.

Only as recent as Oct 9 I got chatting to 2 NZ couples in TPR who were transiting to LHR - they knew nothing of TPR invitations - I asked lounge staff to arrange for them - they were so ecstatic to receive - I thought one lovely older dear was going to adopt me.

After some advice guys/gals.. hear me out :)

Currently have the following booked.

SFO-SIN-MEL x 2 Passengers in Busniess. Cost 180,000 KF Miles and ~$1000 taxes

I am looking at changing the SIN-MEL leg (End of Jan) to a flight the next day in Suites/R - It is only available for Waitlist at the moment. 4 seats occupied according to EF.

My questions are

1) If I change this booking, will I be charged F rate for the whole trip? Even though F isn't offered on the A350
2) Am I better to drop the SIN-MEL leg and booked the F leg seperate? (i.e hope the WL clears)
3) Book the WL (will have to move miles across which I was trying to avoid) then sort it all out in the wash once I have that flight secured?

Any help appreciated.
