SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I've never wanted a flight delay so much in my life! Got to the whisky bar a bit later than had hoped, but wow. What a nice way to cap off muesli and a crossiant than with a few whiskies sitting up at the bar.

To the First class lounge(s) yes (HKG and SIN). To the TPR no.

Oh bugger. Now I have been to TPR and SK J lounge. However I've never hang around SK F lounge (I never see a need). What is the difference between SK F Lounge and TPR?

The SK F lounge has a bit of atmosphere, has some remnants of life, and [probably] more enjoyable (than the PR). It's a less crowded and slightly up-market version - with better food - of the J lounge.

Does SK F Lounge have the same menu as the TPR? Ie can order a la carte? Or is it only buffet style?

Haha the hour of the flight really separates the boys from the men. ;)

SK F has no a-la-carte dining or menu as such. It has a chef station where they will prepare the daily specials in full view - and a pancake / waffle station at breakfast - other than that there are buffet offerings. But both TPR and SKL F share same kitchen so if you are holding SQ R or F BP you can take up a position in F section and ask them to bring you a TPR menu - order from it - and have them deliver to you in F section.

TBH I don't think anybody ever does this as it just does not make sense unless you want to sit at bar and chat to Mahomed of his replacement barman if he has a day off. I have done this on a number of occasions but really only ever ordered wings and such.

Go row 11 if you can as you'll get the full width bulk head and you'll be in the smaller J cabin.
I fully understand the full width bulk head J seats but I just hate sitting in front row staring at wall just in front of you. As always we are all different and clearly many like these seats.

V2 of the 380 had a Row 96 of seats to rear upper deck which also had full width 'foot sections' - crew liked to keep these as crew nests' but you could grab one if you asked nicely - I never tried to grab 2 but assume you could also.

Location may look too close to WCs but they load seats from fore to aft and most pax gravitate forward to WCs when they get out of their seats. Best J seats on 380 for service also - it was like having 5 or 6 personal butlers pampering to your every need, want and desire.

Flight is part of the holiday but only small part of the holiday.

I know only short trip but wife and daughter flying VA back to SYD now and I am on QF. Small sacrifices are necessary otherwise I'd be paying $40-$70 for them on my flight.
Whatever you do Johnny don't go throwing money down the drain so you can travel as a family group and maybe offer a little assistance to wifey should that baby start bawling mid flight - you know how the precious 'me me me' pax take offence to babies / kids that even murmer mid flt.

Well, flight 1 down. Now in TPR. Other than the huge seat and full width bed (which is awesome), the biggest difference to flying J was the service. Wowser - I and Mrs tizey were both genuinely impressed! Almost a full cabin too - only 1 spare suite, but never waited long at all. Remarkable!

I ordered the roesti + smoked salmon. Quite a number of the staff had never prepared that one on board before - which surprised me because it was bloody amazing! Highly recommend - I shared it with the Mrs and she was very impressed too. Huge serving - way too big for one person.

Only complaint - it was hot in the cabin.. usually planes are so cold, not this time. Literally felt roasting.

And got the teddies too for Mrs grandma. She will love them!

Did you alert cabin crew? You only have to tell them and they can and will adjust temp - unless there is a fault they will get temp down to acceptable level. You may have to keep asking but it is a pretty straight forward process.

Such is life. The bigger picture is more important. Daughter screaming throughout yesterday's flight. Me being there wouldn't have made a difference.

We were the only ones drinking at 8am but managed to convince/corrupt a couple of Americans to join us in the tasting.

Unfortunately they were out of Japanese whisky, but we did manage to sample a few nicely peated Swiss examples, an Indian whisky and finish off with a few new (to me) Scotch varieties.

I know this is blasphemy but it was more enjoyable than the TPR.

I just felt sorry that our new friends were both flying US carriers home while we were about to board the best flight of our lives.

When i read about the whiskey bar in zurich it was a new entry on my bucket list.

Just have to sort a euro trip out.

did you happen to be wearing the PJs when you noticed this?SQ PJs are way too thick for me. had a bloke on last day flight back from SIN on old 777 have the FAs pull out the scissors to the top and bottoms. was quite amusing.

Yep - grab one of the little 'SQ angels' and have her take to the 'Sleeper Suit' with the biggest pair of scissors she can find - first cut out that neck / collar gusset or whatever they call it then lop off the sleeves and you'll drop temp multiple deg - return to Krug consumption activities and you can then travel in comfort (Ask IFS to turn temp down also of course)

Yes it is Krug before the icy vodka in my routine. I don't do either at home so it remains special when I fly. The PJs are too heavy for me too.

this is why I bring my own sleeping outfit of thin cotton pants and slightly large t shirt.

rolls up small in backpack onboard and very comfy. prob the best pjs on a flight are with EVA. Not too heavy, soft fabric and I like the 2 tone brown
