SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Definitely found the EY F pyjamas more comfortable for sleeping than SQ. The SQ ones are closer to tracksuit pants.

Wearing the SQ pyjamas did have the benefit of identifying me as the VIP I clearly am when I woke up and did a lap of the plane. The Y flight attendant felt she needed to escort me up the stairs to J and remove the rope for me then do the same for the stairs back down to Suites.

I for one prefer the warmer cabin on SQ, and the PJs are great :)

I find the cabin on many western carriers too cold

Unfortunately one is easily solved (add another duvet) and the other isn't :(

Although I find SQ will happily comply with a request to turn down the temp. Apparently the 'ideal' sleeping temp is 21-22 degrees.

You big girls can always put on a sweater, but you won't like it when us blokes start taking clothes off.
Keep it cool and dress in layers when traveling, no sense making people travel uncomfortably.

lol, you two bit quickly

Yes I usually travel with a jumper as most aircraft cabins are cool to me, I'm not the bloke who asks for the temperature to be turned up. Just saying that some of the Asian carriers tend to keep their cabin at a temp I prefer

Is there anyway to pay tax's and surcharge's with krisflyer points?
Is it just me or are the surcharges needed the same for a business or first class seat?
cheers

How strict are SQ with cabin baggage allowances (weight) in F? We were going to try and HLO on a Europe trip but 2x7kg each probably won't cut it for a month.

Not strict. I've never had them weigh cabin baggage for premium cabins. I regularly fly with 12-14 kg in a rolla-board. (The person at the entry to Melbourne immigration sometimes stops you, but showing a premium boarding pass you get waived through).

Not very.

I once boarded to discover that the sole female pax on our side of the plane in the mini-cabin had filled the entire two luggage compartments plus still had bags surrounding her seat.

I had to request the flight attendant to remove her bags from one of the compartments so that my wife and I had somewhere convenient for our two small backpacks.

Ditto other replies. Went with HLO in winter 2013. Carried jacket and wore winter boots. Wasn't checked at any point along the way regarding weight of hand luggage

Thanks all. Will try our best to get all our stuff in a roll on + backpack each and if they make us check the roll ons then so be it.

I thought I'd best report back - after all the assistance that I've been given from this thread in the lead up. Has taken a few days as time hasnt permitted me to do this earlier.

Suites was put simply, unreal. The comfort level was much higher for me than expected, but the service went through the roof. Seriously impressed and a serious jump compared to J! And I now understand the Krug vs Dom - Krug all the way!! Plus, caviar... *drools*

We did have a minor (and when I say minor, I mean incredibly minor) buzzing noise in our headphones on the SIN-MEL leg, which the main hostess attempted to fix repeatedly and was really apologetic. Had I been anywhere else but first class, I would have ignored it, but I thought it was worth a question to see if they could fix it (my seat had a minor fault with reclining on the ZRH-SIN leg, which was very quickly fixed, so I thought it might be as easy as that was).

When she couldnt fix it, she offered to move us from 3C/D to 3A & 4A which were the only suites vacant, but Mrs wasnt overly keen on that so we stayed put. At the end of the flight, the main hostess came up and provided us with a SGD $200 voucher each for use inflight on our next Singapore flight as an apology for the headphones issue. We were really surprised and said it wasnt significant enough to justify that - but she insisted we accept them and really wouldnt take no for an answer. Luckily we've got another trip already booked with SQ in F for April, so that will be put to good use!

All in all, Suites was an awesome experience. Would I fly it again? Absolutely - but only on a day flight to maximise everything about it. I personally dont see a great benefit to me over business class if a night flight, given the points increase. That said, if there was no J and only F available... I'd not hold back!

Thanks heaps to everyone in this thread who has contributed to our experience with knowledge. We look forward to my SQ F trip in April (777), then its an SQ hiatus for us as we plan MEL-TYO-HNL-MEL for April 2018 (should be CX J/UA F/HA J if all goes to plan). I'm actually very nervous about flying anything else than SQ J/F - I can only hope it stacks up reasonably in comparison!!

Great to hear both yourself and your wife enjoyed it tizey. SQ R is definitely a great way to fly :)

Different type of 'maximise' for night flights. Quiet, dark, cabin. Fast service (if you want it). Fast access to WCs to change. Wake up last minute for something to eat (if you want it).

See I had all of that on the MEL-SIN and SIN-ZRH J flights, which were all night flights as we had a stopover in Singapore on the way there. That was on the A380 in the small front J cabin which we had bulkhead seats - not the big main J cabin.
