SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I have booked a flight from sin to ADE with sq in Y, interested in upgrading to J with points, trying to work out the chart to find how many point would be needed. It seems like the points needed for the upgrade (about 50,000 ) is about the same amount to book a award j ticket, would that be correct or am I mistaken somewhere ?

Yeah sounds about right.

You can login to your booking and see if your ticket class is available for an upgrade first, only the flexi tickets are.

Early next week we will be in TPR in Singapore and I expect to see a work colleague returning from the US. At work we have 4 families running on Kris Miles so it was inevitable that this would happen.

Quick question for the collective brains trust. Thinking of booking a J redemption to CDG.
It arrives at 7.10 am and I need to connect to an AF flight at 8.30 am to GVA.
I will have carry on baggage only.
Possible ?? or give it a wide berth?? I've not transited at CDG so all help greatly received.
I am wary of delays etc thru French ports and also French airlines but struggling with the connections thru other European airports since they moved the MUC flight to arrive at 6.30 Grrrrrr!!!!

Cheers in advance for the help

I think it's too tight. There's a website here: Where to go ? - PARIS-CDG CHARLES de GAULLE AIRPORT that you can enter your arrival and departure terminals and it wil give you estimated transfer times. Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 is estimated 45-75 mins.

I agree. I have arrived in CDG on SQ before so probably at a similar gate. CDG is not conducive to efficiency. I think it was inspired by Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle.

Can't fly into ZRH and train it to GVA? I did that once.. train took about 3hrs from memory, but was very comfortable and on time. A good option as I'd think the link between ZRH and GVA would be reasonably frequent.

Meeting the boys from London at 9.30 am at GVA for the annual boys ski trip. Might have to take an extra day off work and arrive the day before if the sq 322 into LHR doesn't open up

Could you do a Star Alliance J award and pick up a LX flight to ZRH then GVA?

Danger in a word - NO. There is still a state of emergency in France so immigration is taking ages and inter-terminal transport is confusing if you don't know what you are doing, esp from Terminal 1 where SQ arrives. Be aware too, if you are on Schengen flights, you still go through immigration when you arrive back in France ( if that's your departure point back to Oz) so allow time for that too.,

This was my original worry ..it is France after all

SQ arrives into ZRH at at 7.50am which means LX to GVA arrives at 10.20 am .A bit too late. I am looking at LX 179 from SIN to ZRH the on to GVA which would get me there at 8.45 am ..ideal but no redemption available. But Thai thru BKK is, just think I have been a bit spoilt by SQ J and F/R so will I be disappointed by TG??

I am so used to entering France by walking thru GVA and then walking back to the swiss side without even any checks, or by car thru the channel tunnel, again minimal checks. Obviously immigration things are different at CDG.....even with and EU passport??? the UK has left just yet.
I'm leaving GVA to LHR and onto NRT for another week in the snow in Japan..happy days

TG's new long haul meal service is pretty good for business class. Service wise equal to SQ. Food quality... I found it a bit bland. Business class beds - better on TG (unless you score a bulkhead on SQ J). TG F v SQ F - clear winner with SQ. But if you're just after dinner and sleep then TG does the job well.

Any word on the new SQ A380 suite? I'm scoping R returns for 2 pax AU-EU in July or August 2018, the booking window is just around the corner....

I feel like I'm asking possibly the most biased thread ever... but here we go nonetheless.

I have a confirmed, booked MEL-SIN-NRT SQ F booking for me and mrs tizey to kickoff honeymoon. Cost 210,000 KF Miles (which easily redeems to a MEL-SIN-ZRH SQ J redemption, which we will be doing in near future).

I can see availability to get the same outcome, MEL-SIN-HND, with comparable flight times on the same day, flying EK F MEL-SIN (A380) and JAL J SIN-HND (767 - Sky Suite, so at least a flat bed for the 2am-9am flight time), booking using QFF Points, which I have plenty of, and am worried about having 'useless' QFF points for use in school holiday times.

Availability for the MEL-ZRH route (which is key to us - family in Zurich) seems to be better on SQ than it does on QFF around school holidays, which we will always be flying.

Now I know that EK F can be flashy, ostentatious, etc... but I think it would be good to try atleast once (particularly to kickoff honeymoon), and I know I can swing it with mrs as she likes the idea of a mid-flight shower.

So my dilemma is:

SQ F (MEL-SIN-NRT) + Run the chance of EK/CX/QR availability for MEL-ZRH in J via QFF

OR

EK F (MEL-SIN) + JAL J (SIN-HND) + Run the chance of SQ/LX/TG availability for MEL-ZRH in J via SQ.

What would you do?

OW availability is hard to come by at the best of times. If you can find it now, take it. Save the points for SQ later... as you say, they are generally more generous than OW.

you'll miss out on SQ F, but honestly, but MEL-SIN and SIN-TYO are short, and unless you want to arrive in Tokyo totally exhausted you'll want to sleep on at least one of those already short sectors. JL business class after EK F you'll be happy to zonk out and go to sleep in a very comfortable Sky Suite.
