SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Here is a tub full being delivered to the women's shelter also - stay tuned for a possible national plan going forward.

would love for AFF to be able to contribute this at a state level - i hear hotels throw out and goes to landfill too - Why you should always steal your hotel room soap

I'm sure collectively there are a LOT of hotel toiletries to be collected from AFFers...

CE - I would be happy to coordinate / help for Sydney or NSW if that is something we end up doing...

I always take all of the toiletries when I stay at hotels. Not that I need them but I donate them to orphanages and other people in need. Same with toothbrushes. If you are looking for donations just ask your dentist. They often have a stash meant for donations, both toothpaste and brushes :)

Quick question before I transfer a tonne of Velocity points to Krisflyer...

When one searches for an available redemption for two people, it says "one available" for the saver rate, but when you check it, it appears there is two available as it says Booking 210,000 points + taxes (redemtion is 105,000 each). Just checking that this availability is real and that there shouldn't be many issues clicking through once the points have been transferred?

Thanks in advance.

If getting a J reward seat and arriving in Singapore at midnight, and then 7 hour layover, whats my options?
I am guessing all the good sleeping spots around the airport will be taken by then. I dont know if its possible to crash in the lounge, but I would certainly grab a shower.

Though by 2am singapore time its 5am by my body clock so chances of sleeping is fairly remote, so not worth shelling out for the terminal hotel.

I'll pass on Geylang, but thanks for the suggestion.

you can crash on the sofa in the business class lounge. If you can find space the lounge staff will give you a pillow and blanket. But it's not necessarily dark or ultra quiet.

Ok, thanks for that, sounds like a plan. I was thinking they might not appreciate derros laying about.

I tried it once. It is not that easy to sleep there due to noise and comings and goings. It is also not that comfortable.

When I did at last nod off an attendant actually woke to ask if I wanted a blanket. I did not get back to sleep after that.

If my lay over is only several hours I would still do it. But for 7 hours I would always these days pre-book a 6 hr slot at the airside hotel. I sleep easily and well in their rooms.

For longer stopovers the Crowne Plaza is a much more comfortable option.

thanks.

would there be many comings and goings at 3am? with no flights in/out during the graveyard hours I thought it might be fairly settled by then.

My wife and I slept in the J lounge back in December and found it ok.

There was noise in the lounge til around 1-2am but that was because a family with a small child that had clearly had too much sugar decided they would lounge right next to where everyone was sleeping despite the size of the lounge. After they left it went pretty dead quiet.

There were other people already sleeping when we arrive around midnight and were lucky that there was enough room for another 2.

There are transit hotels but you'll need to pre-book as they're usually full.

thanks.

The lounge does get quite empty then, but yes people still come and go.

Singapore is a 24/7 airport and while there are less flights after midnight there are still flights. Apart from the scheduled flights some flights can be delayed in departure or arrival too.

Also for early morning departures pax may come into the lounge for breakfast before flying. I know that I do.

If you sleep like a log you will be fine.

I tend to be a light sleeper and random noises will wake me (In part as I have done a lot of yachting from since I was young and you acquire the knack of waking when things change, whether it be noise or movement, as it was prudent to do so). For example my daughters, now in their early twenties, will always wake me on leaving/coming home at night despite their best efforts to be quiet (and their not so best efforts if they have had a few ;) ). Mind you as a parent I actually want this and my subconscious mind obviously knows this. This also means that I can find it hard to have along sleep on planes and is why I always try and book into the small cabin of J when I can if the jet has one.

Hi All,

Just wondering what meals are served on SQ336 SIN - CDG? I booked J through velocity so will have to call up to BTC. I want to look at the website first and have the choices ready.

Thanks in advance

It's all on the website:

Unless I misread what you are after?

Thanks JessicaTam, but was wondering if it's dinner then breakfast? I'm sure it will be breakfast before arrival but also wondering if there is something served just after take off and worth waiting for instead of snacking before the flight in the lounge.

Ahh, got it. It is dinner then breakfast.

If you go with BTC for dinner you won't be disappointed. I would tend *not* to fill up too much in the lounge.

Finally received Complimentary Upgrade Certificate as promised by SQ for recent downgraded MEL-SIN sector where originally booked 380 was subbed for 350 which in turn on day of flt was subbed for 77W but no active F cabin. As comp for downgrade I also received 2 x 17K KF pts for 2 R bookings downgraded to J - I tried valiantly to get 2 x upgrade certificates but these certificates are issued and usable only by pax listed in booking and definitely not transferrable. Still you gotta try huh?

Will work out OK as I will book J day flt to SIN and upgrade to F or R to enjoy the full exp - o/n in SIN - then J to either PEK or PVG to enjoy the company of the strunners in the J cabin - jeez I love flying SQ.

Just changed a booking. Was 02 March SYD-SIN-FRA-JFK in F.

Is now, in May cost + 35125 miles (from VA 47K) and a refund of around $470AUD all up.
