SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I have switched for this Thursday night to the Yotelair Changi Singapore. This is my first time using it rather than my usual in the Crown Plaza, or the airside hotels.

It is on the small side but looks clean, with a comfortable bed. I am only really using it for us as a couple to overnight there.
It is also very easy to get too.

We have use of the room from 3pm (We land at about 3.30pm) Thursday till 1pm(we fly out at 12.35pm) Friday. After cashback it was only about $AUD125-ish.

We will have a nice sleep in and shower, and then have breakfast in the Krisflyer Lounge before our flight.
Tried the yotelair just before the apocalypse - room isn’t much bigger than the bed but comfy, modern, well located and probably better overall than the aerotel if time allows. Would definitely stay there again if I had another overnighter.

Just cancelled 2 x J Saver ZRH-SIN-MEL Jun 24 if remote possibility anybody might be on WL - they will prolly go straight to Comm Inventory given dummy booking currently showing zero availabilty J

Have also booked 2 x F Adv Rdpts MEL-SIN-CDG both sectors 777 for Jun 2023 - not waiting and praying for return of Saver inventory - will continually monitor Saver availability into any EU port and sub them if they do rear their heads going forward

Edit: Pts back in KF account within 3hrs

Just spent 3 hours in the new TPR - I thinks they have done a great job.
The space is large, with hardly any passengers, making it quiet and private.
As a contrast, I poked my head into the First Class Lounge - it was very crowded.

The TPR has a number of different spaces in various sizes depending on how many people wish to be together.
There is a dining area which is reasonable but does not seem as special as the old TPR.
There are 4 somewhat hidden rooms which need a staff member to open them - they are lockable, private, quiet and include a desk and a lounge chair with massage. 2 of these rooms include a proper single bed with hotel -like bedding. This is a great improvement and allows a good sleep, but there is a 2 hour limit on these rooms. Unfortunately these 4 rooms have a glass panel in the door so people can see you sleeping or getting changed! This is a design fault which I am not sure is easily resolved.
There is a small playroom.
The reception area is spacious and welcoming.
I know little about alcohol but am including some photos.
I am also including the full menu.
The staff are very inexperienced and as the area is new, they have little idea about how anything works. This will undoubtedly improve with time.single person spacetempImageXHrjRH.pngtempImageq3ZCjm.pngtempImageQTyHU4.pngtempImageVCoD55.pngtempImagerlpCe5.pngtempImageh9ShGc.pngtempImageeooOhT.png

Thanks for the pix. I know we all have different tastes, but this manages to look both bland and uncomfortable - with the views over the general concourse looking far from exclusive. The only feature seems to be the carpet, and even that is broken up by hard floor walkways. Reminds me a bit of the business class lounge in Yerevan but without the comfortable seats.

Is there a trick to find saver availability with expert flyer? I can clearly see availability on SQ's site but ExpertFlyer shows nothing. I have a paid pro account.

Thanks,

I'd love to share some annoyingly minor observations about the new SIN Private Room shower suites:

- The super technical Japanese-style toilet will open and close its lid seemingly at random, like an angry dustbin
- Drainage in the shower is a bit slower than one would like, despite a generous camber and especially given that it's a new plumbing system
- Theres a small drain to the side of the toilet, your shower drains out here, and does so audibly. It took a loooong while for my shower to drain down after finishing, and given that at this point in time TPR is only a few weeks old, this will get worse over time
- There seems to be no extractor, or heater that evaporates, the steam from the shower screen. Really unfortunate that someone has to clean up what could be zapped away by modest technology
- While exiting, the toilet lid opened and closed a few times without reason or warning, and I figured it was probably most likely haunted, so I let it be and ran away
- I emerged smelling like a thousand bucks, so on balance it was a good experience and I would recommend it

From your description, this functionality was pretty much prototyped in the newish Business lounge Showers which until last month were also used by TPR, First & *G PAX. 😂

UPDATE: We have now completed our one night stay.

As Lemon-Party stated:

I would add :
  • Bed was comfortable for sleeping, which for our purposes was the most important requirement. As there are no chairs it also had a motor to raise the mattress at one end so one could read or watch the tv if desired.
  • There is a small fold up desk with camping type folding stool.
  • Noise was not too bad except for the occasional guest who walked passed yelling. AC was slightly louder than I would like but it did not stop us from sleeping.
  • There is small outside common area for guests where one can sit and watch the Jewell Indoor Waterfall from and also enjoy free self-service tea and coffee from machines.
  • The Jewel centre, that it is located within apart, from the shops also has a large selection of restaurants and food courts.
  • The indoor waterfall is certainly worth a look. It had a light and music show in the evening.
  • The main negative for us was that the shower only has a screen for 50% and with no lip water goes out onto the nearby bathroom floor. Not too far but do not put the bathmat next to shower or it will get soaked.
Yes the room is tiny! It is definitely just for overnighting/transiting and it is ok for this purpose.

Grabbed 1 x J Saver Award IST to SIN SQ391 for 7 June 2023 basically as soon as the flight was available.

Checked straight after booking and now only the Advantage rate available for J seats so they go quick.

Thanks for those sharing the time when flights/seats are released. ✈️ 😎

Did you do book IST-SIN rather than IST-MEL/IST-SYD/IST-anywhere in AU due to the removal of J Savers into and out of Australia?
Struggling to find anything ex-MEL or into MEL.

I previously booked MEL-SIN-IST for a flight on 28 April and got a J Saver. Again booked this the day the flights opened.

Now SIA don’t seem to be releasing Saver J from MEL at least not that I’ve seen.

I didn’t book SIN-MEL as not enough points and while I could have organised enough I haven’t seen Saver award J for that leg so gave up.

FYI It has only been recently Saver J was limited on IST-SIN so just glad to grab what looks like the 1 seat.

I’ll now look to use QFF points for last leg back. Looks like Malaysia Airlines has some J awards around the end of the booking window just need to wait for the dates I want to open. Never flown Malaysia Airlines before so that will be an experience, I’m sure family members will make safety jokes.

I’m giving myself no chance for a QF J award from SIN to anywhere in Australia as I’m only a LTG. I think even Platinum 1 would struggle to find J Awards on QF.

Basically J Awards from and to Australia are very limited even 350 days out on most programs.

Happy flying.

I just searched on Mrsdrron's WP account. I tried to see if any awards from Tokyo to Australia. The QF options are laughable. Sale J at 660000+ points but that usually isn't available. next step up is 770000 + points.

So I went to my AA account. Unfortunately they only release awards 330 days out so latest you can search is 13/5. however they had occasional J seats to SYD or MEL on JAL for 40000 points + $US57.70. They do have J awards every day at that price but they are either on MH and there is a problem with MH awards on AA -usually phantom. But they also list them via HKG with flight to Australia on CX and although that is a year away I am not sure if you could count on that. Those awards are the same cost.

Now QF Didn't show any JAL flights. Though do if you search HND- LHR. But if there are still awards on JAL at 330 days out surely at 355 when I believe JAL release their seats there is a good chance there will be availability. But you have to get to HND and also have to ring QFF and hope for an agent who knows how to do things.

Wow, that seems like a lot of stuffing around to get a J seat, and that too while logged in as QF WP!

I'm not normally a fan of QF but my faith in them has been (slightly and somewhat) restored when they came through with the goods when needing to book MEL-SYD-MEL over the recent Queen's Bday long weekend and cash fares were through the roof. Granted we were booking Y redemptions but still, not paying the hefty premium was good (and we had just enough QFF to make our bookings).

However, I wouldn't count on this for international and/or J redemptions.
