Now I'm starting to doubt myself - in terms of which config is regional and which is longhaul. My two flights both go back to 17A in the front cabin and don't appear to be staggered left-right-left-right. Is that regional or longhaul?

Without even looking at seating config, easy to tell. If they are selling premium economy on the flight it is the long haul config. If no PE, the regional config.

OK - thanks. So regional from Jakarta to Singapore and longhaul from Singapore to Melbourne - although the seat-maps look the same. Makes me feel slightly less queasy about slumming it in J.

It’s long haul. You should still try to get bulkhead, makes huge difference in terms for legroom and space.

I will do that.

Bulkheads can always be a bit of a gamble.

On some airlines they have recliners and the bulkhead gives you less legroom - and on others you get much more. Can differ from one side to another. Some long haul you get a bigger footwell, others (UL) the footwell is the same but further restricted by an electronics box. Some have bigger footwells but suffer from banging of galley cupboard doors.

That's why it's so good to get real experience from members on this site who fly regularly enough and on enough airlines to offer good insights.
 
I can see saver (LH) ATH-FRA and (SQ) FRA-SIN-MEL but not ATH-FRA-SIN-MEL. Is that just a phone call to book them as one award? Or should I book the FRA//MEL online and call to add the ATH leg?

You’ll need to book the whole itinerary over the phone.
It’s not possible to add or merge bookings with KF.

Also keep in mind that when booking multi-city with different airlines the agents might see different award availability than what is shown online when searching each sector individually.

Thanks. I don't necessarily need a multi city booking, I just don't want to fly ATH-SIN on Scoot! :D

I know this is the theory but I am not a million % sure that's true. The other week I was trying to book BWN-SIN-CGK in J&F just after the seats had been released. The agent couldn't see the flights so I was advised to call back in a few days. I said that this would mean the seats would have gone, and I was advised to book SIN-CGK in F and then call back to add on the first sector later. I did this and within 30 minutes, I had a call from the SQ agent saying they now could see the itinerary I wanted and added the BWN sector to the ticketed SIN-CGK. Irritatingly I was charged a change fee, but it was done.
 
Regional config is ok for daytime flights, particularly if you score one of the bulkhead seats.
The ADL-SIN-ADL flights SQ278 and SQ279 changes from regional A350 to 787-10 next year. From what I understand the seats are identical to the A350 regional. I assume the bulkhead seats remain the best seats to aim for on the 787-10?

We are flying SQ's 787-10 next month in J but only SIN -BKK -SIN. So not a problem if a regional set up.
 
OK, so back on topic of MEL F lounge, some feedback from my partner, why almost no dessert options, other than the tubs of gelato? Back in January they had Churro's+ chocolate sauce on the menu.

I suggested go for a walk into the J lounge - so he did, and in the J lounge they had 2 cakes, some mango sago and of course the aforementioned churro's. WTF? You have options in the J lounge but expect F lounge guests to know this by ESP and ask for them or go for a wander to the J lounge to get them? Not as if they aren't catering them.

Menu has improved :D

The mainlymiles website/blog has very detailed reviews of the cabins and best seats of the various SQ configs.
