SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

The new Senator & F lounges look pretty good.

Though as far as I am aware you only get Senator access on SQ even if in Suites. For the F lounge you have to be in F on LX or LH or have status ie: HON Circle.

I am due to fly out of ZRH in January so am interested in checking out the whisky bar even if it will be breakfast time.

I flew SQ 345 ex ZRH on Thursday last week in J but I am TPPS so got easy access to the Senator Lounge in Terminal E. I had previously got the same access in FRA the week before while transiting through there.

The Lounge is fantastic; looks brand new with excellent facilities and airport views although I would say the mid-morning buffet was not extensive. Not as good, obviously, as the LH F lounge in FRA or, presumably the same lounge in ZRH for LX but only F pax (or their HON members) can access this lounge. Not for SQ no matter your class or status. The same as the TPR.

Thanks Bazzi, that's a good point I hadn't thought about the luggage issue. Not sure I would want to leave our luggage unattended for that long. That complicates things.

I stopped by the T3 F Lounge after an 0500 arrival the other day. Had a shower, a cup of tea and read the papers for a couple of hours before heading into town. I just asked the Lounge attendant on entry to have my luggage put into the Lost & Found. It was there safely put aside when I went to collect it several hours later. Not an issue.

Is the Lost & Found common pre and post Customs? My luggage was pre Customs so had to get it X-Rayed before I left the secure area. Can you leave a bag overnight then collect it post Customs the next morning to re-check it?

On another point, I had no problem sending a bag from LX MAD-ZRH to SQ ZRH-SIN although the stopover was 23 hours 15 mins. I hope to do the same tomorrow in SIN while transiting overnight before flight to MEL after arrival from KUL - both flights SQ.

Thanks mel-world, that's a great tip asking the lounge attendant to have luggage put aside - will definitely use that in November when we are flying HND SIN in F as we want to have drinks and an early dinner in the TPR before going to our hotel.

We also had no problem having luggage transferred from EY to SQ while we had a 12 hour transit at the Ambassador hotel airside in SIN - EY organised the interline on check in at AUH and then I just followed up at the transfer desk on arrival in SIN.

That's exactly what we are planning to do, grab a quick drink and a bite to eat before heading to the hotel.

Good tip re: asking the lounge attendant, thanks mel-world.

I am still suffering severe depression, despondency and melancholia from my somewhat questionable decision to ride CX J MEL-HKG-PVG 2 weeks back - but back to my comfort zone next year:

Speaking of feelings of despondence, I do have to report that a couple of recent SQ J sectors have been less than satisfactory. I refer particularly to SQ 345 ZRH-SIN May 12, operated by 9V-SKP, an all business upper deck 388. The condition of the hard product on the flight was sub-standard. I was in the last row of the front cabin 16K and have no problems with galley noise. I do have an issue, however, when the seat will not lie flat properly (in that the leg rest fell to near the floor) and the drink tray is missing. The general cleanliness of the whole plane was scuffed and tired, including the rest rooms. I had a similar experience on my 330 to KUL as well. A marked appearance throughout in need of a definite refresh.

While the levels of service were up to standard, as was the catering, the condition of the aircraft needed attention. One can only hope that the parts that keep the plane in the air get more attention than the cabin. Does anyone else have a similar view?

I was offered another seat and received apologies from the cabin manager who reported my comments but it is hard to move in the middle of the night when all your 'stuff' is safely stowed away.

That points balance just doesn't grow does it!

Flew HKG-SYD on QF J yesterday.. new product is better than CX J I would say.

My first flight on an 388 was with SQ, was not the full J upper deck. My seat 15A had a broken drinks tray, held up by tape. I was offered another seat but declined because the tray was really to far away for me to reach. The plane looked scuffed as well, including the front restroom.

This compounded by the fact I was extremely tired, an aborted takeoff due to crew member falling ill, a 2 hour wait at the gate for medical attention and new take off slot, a missed connection in SYD, all meant for a very underwhelming experience

You sure you weren't on MH?

When did you notice drink tray missing?

Should have refused to leave without it!

If you write a polite email to SQ I am sure that you will be compensated with a few points. :)

What are the odds of this? I had two connecting flights last year on a mixed Y-PE fare SYD-SIN-FRA-AMS. SYD-SIN in Y had very poor IFE that sounded and looked like it was buffering every 20 seconds. Just horrible to use. Transferred to LH for PE SIN-FRA and the IFE headest did not work. I was told there were no other seats available on the entire a/c so had to drink my way trough the flight. Don't worry they said, a report has been filed. After 4 weeks I had heard nothing so I sent LH an email , then 5 days later (my return journey was approaching and I was hoping for an upgrade) another, then another. No response, no upgrade and finally two months later an email in response to another (now) terse missive, offering me a miserable 5,000 points. As I will never be flying LH again these are worthless. Not even enough to be able to donate.

The SQ response was completely different. Remember, I was traveling Y on an LH ticket. Profuse apologies and admission they'd had some issues. I received 10,000 points and a nice Pony and Bockers hamper on the doorstep a few days later. Now that is how you look after your customers. LH take note.
If you write, be polite and do not demand or request anything.

oops yes that's what i meant.

have been on flights a couple of times where the people in the middle suites didn't know each other hence the privacy blinds were down the whole time. kind've seemed to defeat the purpose to me!

I might just do that when I get home tomorrow. Just finishing a J Class RTW of 14 sectors, 8 on SQ and rest on AC or LH short haul. Generally a trouble free trip.

One thing about the SQ J seats, I have not noticed the wear and tear to the extent others have, but one thing I will note when I was ejected from row 11 to the back of the upper deck by someone who claimed my allocated seat, as discussed elsewhere, I noticed the seat (in row 90something) in much better condition. I think the seats towards the back are always in better condition, because they are probably always the last to be allocated and therefore only used half the time .... food for thought :)

I have noticed the wear and tear as mentioned, particularly disappointed with our Suites sector SYD SIN last year, lots of scuff marks and grubby finger marks - not what we expected.

We don't hanker to sit right up front but do like that slightly smaller business class cabin however sitting further down the back is food for thought.

During my investigation of changing SQ awards on SQ, it appears that changes are free. Is that correct?
