ozmouse which seat have you selected on 380? My advice is to choose 3C if available - with an ounce of luck no other pax will choose 3D and then you will have a double bed to sleep in. Now bear in mind there is a slight ridge running up the middle of the double bed / 2 single beds but I can easily roll over / back etc and it's not unbearable - if you do have another pax beside you you might decide to move Suites or whatever - give it some thought - maybe you want window anyway but a tad dark then to see anything.

Also where are you arriving from? When you check in at prev port ask them to arrange invitation to TPR for you - you may not be able to do it there but at least try - if not ask staff at entrance to TPR to arrange one for you as souvenir - it will have your name, the date and flt number hand written on back - fabulous souvenir to make all your friends green with envy.

It is a shame it's not a day flt as then you could experience the full meal service - you will prolly eat in TPR so may not want to partake in Suite - but you might just want to sit up for a couple hours and watch a movie / eat the supper on offer - either way just enjoy the experience - and do please report back.
 
Cruiser, bit out of luck there.... im in 3A.... both rows C/D showing as booked. So no double bed for me. And from memory there was 1 other seat booked, so at this stage 50% occupancy. Have not checked lately though.

Im arriving into SIN 2 days prior QR J 787 flight (i know, i know .... cant get partner to change to A350 flight grrrr), so SQ journey starts in Changi. I presume no issue with invites from F checkin?

I understood difference in meal service when booking. As mentioned, will park in TPR for some lobster and champers. (hmmm... can i get a burger in as well?!) Have to decide on a book-the-cook meal for supper! Actually quick question... will satay be offered in flight, or should i consider at TPR/book the cook option? Or what about a book the cook option for breakfast (continental on offer), and pick a supper meal from menu?
 
3C and 3D are bassinet seats and are always blanked out for online selection - you can call up and request either 3C or #D (depending on whether you are RHD or LHD) - and they will advise 'YES you can have that Suite but bear in mind if another pax requires bassinet Suite you might be required to move for them' - but is worth the punt IMHO.

YES get your TPR at F check in in SIN - don't forget to remind taxi driver F ... F ... F ... F as you approach Changi - several times I have been asleep and clown taxi driver just drops you at normal drop off.

I cannot help with meals as I always sleep all the way on overnighters.

You can order book the cook and have it at any time you wish. However... I think in some ways it's better to not over-engineer your flight... unless you're flying every week or have special dietary requirements, there's the 'fun' of discovering the menu for your flight on the day... but secondly, expectation can lead to disappointment.

The food on SQ is ok - but it's not spectacular. Their cold food (salads, desserts, caviar if they have it) are great, but their mains are pretty much same same as most airlines... with the same limitations. It's not a michelin starred restaurant. While SQ is better than the likes of TG, and probably on par (but different) to QF... it's not in the same league as LH (which sometimes can come up with some amazing dishes).

It's a wagu burger with a quail egg and it's very good...try the "phish food" as well. It's a desert-chocolate icecream with fudge fish shapes...very decadent! Enjoy suites:cool:

have to admit i haven't travelled LH, but i think the asian food on SQ is excellent. indian curries and duck rice in particular i can recommend.

and disagree re: food - book the cook and use it as either a back up in case something on a la carte takes your fancy, or use it for the ordinary 'breakfast' they offer on the overnights.
 
Had a rather amusing experience on SQ last week.

Took SQ212 out of SYD to connect to SQ490 heading to DXB with exactly 1 hour transit in SIN. I ended up transferring further to DOH on QR (with a meeting that day in DOH then onwards to LHR), only to find out that my checked bag didn't make the transfer at SIN and missed the DXB flight. Ended up having to wait an extra day for the baggage but this ended up working out okay on my end as I bought all these new free clothes through insurance, although it did also mean that I had to make time for shopping as well, on top of my schedule.

Then on the way back in 3 days time, took the SQ495 out of DXB which is a 777-300 config, connecting to SQ211 to SYD. Upon landing at SIN, we were supposed to head to T3 for disembarkation but the captain came on the PA and said we needed to go to T2 because of a last minute gate change. Then as we got to T2, the plane started turning towards an empty area and consequently, we ended up at a remote gate and was bused back to T3. This process took around 1.5 hours.

So by the time I got off the bus, I literally had around 15 minutes before boarding started on SQ211 to SYD so I used the time to head to the SKL for a quick shower then back to the gate for SQ211, which was B6 at T3. At the gate, we were called for a last minute gate change to gate A6, which is a bus gate. Funnily enough, we were bused back to the exact same plane I had gotten off just some time ago. I took the exact same seat that I was on for the previous flight as well, which made the experience even more 'weird-er'.

This trip was pretty harsh for me as all SQ flights had some sort of 'issues' of usually being late, really depriving me the opportunity to have a good shower and food at the lounge between the flights (they ran out of shampoo at the Sydney SKL on the way out too lol), which is something I am really keen to do as I take back-to-back-to-back flights a lot (sometimes 4-5 in a row within a day or two) and I generally don't eat meals on-board to maximise rest time.

But in saying that, I've been flying heaps on CX recently and I almost forgot how good SQ was onboard, with cabin service being spectacular on all sectors. SQ really does make you feel like you are flying your 'home' airline...
 
mitwg - a series of really unfortunate experiences which no doubt put a real dampener on your travels - and back to back to make it worse - make sure you email SAA Feedback with your experiences and thoughts - here is the direct email address - [email protected] - you will get an acceptable response from them.

I am glad you posterd that last paragraph as an experienced CX traveller - I have no doubt MEL-t will take issue with you on this matter. :lol:

I'm not sure I have commented about CX cabin crew compared to SQ. They are different 'products'. CX is typically cantonese, and a different service ethos.

It was a valid point!

SQ could serve you cup noodles and they'd do it in a way that was totally special.

Somehow SQ could get away with only a single meal service on the red-eye SIN-MEL and you'd be happy and content. But if QF introduced 'cafe breakfast' you didn't have the same feeling of contentment after the flight.
 
Bummer - have had to give up MEL-SIN on 77WN on 2nd as it would require o/n in SIN - and Hilton want S$700/nt - no thanks - changed to 218 777 / 802 380 so I still get the Suites run to PEK so not all lost.
 
Singapore will be 'full' for the first half of June due to major multi sport South East Asian Games event. This is likely the reason rooms are so expensive. Supply and demand.
 
Is that what it is? I remember I returned from LAX one time and then had to back track to China - reqd an overnight in SIN right in middle Grand Prix - didn't even think of booking hotel til a week or 2 beforehand - rooms were going for 1K+ for the sh*ttiest hotels - ended up sleeping on a bench in airport.
