I had urgent return trip to PVG last week to pick up a new sample - I had to get this carton below back on plane with me - here are my trusty Chinese comrades transporting carton from carpark into Yuhang Railway Station terminal - Yuhang is a suburb of Hangzhou:



The carton size was 130cm x 25cm x 55cm Wt 25kg which is well within SQ's maximum permitted checked luggage size 220cm x 75cm x 85cm Wt 32kg. Carton arrived in perfect condition in MEL:

Cruiser, I'd imagine these trips take a bit out of your working day/s. Essentially you are being the courier for these items back to MEL, possibly at short notice. This must surely affect your productivity?

I have time up my sleeve and can volunteer to be your "bike-cough" when necessary. View it as a symbiotic relationship, you maintain productivity, I maintain my SQ status.

My best men tell me I am totally useless when at work so I guess they don't miss me when I am away - terms along the lines of me being 'As good as a man short' are not uncommon to my ears.

Mr Timtammi and I have our first SQ J flight tomorrow to SIN and then TPE. SQ228 followed by SQ876 the following morning (overnighting at Crowne Plaza). On the way back we have a few days in SIN. THis is a business trip and we have been to TPE and SIN many times, but have never flown SQ, as we are OW tragics. However, Mr T is lifetime gold now and I'm not too far off it so we are sampling life on the dark side.
Anything we shouldnt miss?
Have already booked the cook.
I have heard about these Changi dollars but not sure when/if we qualify or how to get/use them?
Any pointers appreciated!

You'll get Changi dollars if you are transiting through Singapore with less than 24 hours between flights. You get them one way only. $20 for general merchandise and $20 for cosmetics, liquor and tobacco. Because I am really the most bonza husband in the world I spend mine on cosmetics for my wife.
The are available from the SHOP@CHANGI desk which in most terminals is near the GST refund counter (at least it is in T3).
I usually go straight from arrival to there as the queues can be long.
You should both qualify.

We passed thru Changi last month enroute to Vietnam, and took advantage of picking up $$ when connecting on the way thru, and shopping when departing after stop over on way back. First time we were able to utilize this nice perk.

Line was not too bad - 5? maybe - except for the 1 "numpty" that was fighting his ground re conditions/entitlement. The single other attendant handled the balance of the line the whole time he monopolized the other attendant.

I guess the rule re spending split is lax depending on where you shop - in my case $40 spent on cosmetics in 1 purchase at one of the large "duty free" places and in my partners case $40 spent at a small perfumer (but on candles). I guess we lucked out.

It is $40SGD in total, but $20 of that can only be spent on alcohol/cosmetics/perfume.

You get two vouchers, $20 each for a total of $40. One can be used at all participating shops, while the other is restricted to booze, cosmetics and perfume, as Plutonus pointed out.

Also, note that you won't receive any change when using the vouchers. So, for example, if the item you want to buy is $21, it's better to use one voucher and pay the extra dollar in cash (not sure if they accept credit cards for this type of transaction?) rather than waste a second voucher.

I regularly buy a bott of Baileys to take to China with me at S$25 and use 1 x Changi $20 voucher abd Duty Free store readily accept CC for diff - would they accept CC for $1 diff? Would anybody? YES Sean I understand your explanation spells it out very clearly and it was just an example - hopefully would realistically think carding a buck was reasonable - NFI what is a reasonable small amt to card in SIN Duty Free but no prob with S$5.

227/228 is being flown by 9V-SWI today 238 by 9V-SWB.
Sorry I was refering to 227/228 .
Either way its old 2006 J on both planes.
On 29-5-16 SQ238 did get 9V-SWZ (new J) fingers crossed for you mrsmart

It's slightly annoying that they promote the new J product on the MEL route, when in fact it's only one 1 in 3 flights. Plus, there's no way to actually tell it's the new product when booking so you certainly wouldn't want to count on it.

Not that I'm concerned – I love all SQ J seats, but considering it's one of two SQ products I've never flown (with the new PE), I'd really love to give it a go, but no idea when it'll happen.
