SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Not sure if this is the right place, but I'm sure you Changi Gurus can help out regarding Transit hotel.

Landing in Changi at midnight and have a flight out of T2 at 7am. Would it be best to reserve now or just walk in to book.
FWIW ninja I have started a dedicated Changi Matters thread which might be a more appropriate thread for specific SIN questions.

Cruiser Elite did you find the service / quality was any better than any other flight? Did the crew make an extra effort because an auditor was there?
TBH and at the risk of being labelled an SQ fanboi I never experience anything less than spectacular service on SQ - I always engage with crew members immediately on boarding and my BYO PJs which I always immediately change into are emblazoned with SQ logo over the back so I never wait / need to push call button a second time.

But TBFH no I did not notice any discernible diff in crew behaviour - they appeared totally normal and went about the business as you would expect. Mind you only 3 crew in F cabin - I did wander through other cabins but all seemed as normal.

Do they still have tight cuffs at the ankle? I'd much prefer them without.

We got the blue PJs on SQ238 on 1/4. Mrs tizey was also impressed that the design of the women's amenities kit was changed - and is much nicer in her opinion. Exact same contents, just new design case.

Only 3? It must have taken precious seconds to get a refill on Krug. :) What is normal staffing for F?
777 F cabin - 2 dedicated crew + IFS who usually works in F unless reqd in other cabin / 380 R cabin - 3 dedicated crew + IFS who usually works in R unless reqd in other cabin.

I did not have it attached as a PDF either.

However looking at my e-ticket now there are four clickable links on page 2 of my e-ticket. The first one is to a page with the same text as the referred to PDF, and the referrred to PDF is available as a clickable link on that page as well.

So 99.999% of people getting a confirmation like mine would never see the clause.

Agree, but I think the links are also present before you process the booking and you have to agree that you read them (which I and I imagine everyone else just agrees without reading...)

I am staying at the Pullman Brisbane with the wife for a significant celebration and what a beautiful sight to see Singapore Airlines crew checking in/checking out.The crew checking in still look as fresh as the crew checking out. Have never really thought about the logistics of flight crews staying over.

Was talking with the concierge this morning and he said that mostly the flight crews stay just under 24 hours but sometimes it may be 2 nights. There is SQ flight that arrives around 7.00am and that crew will fly out the next morning on the flight that leaves at 9.10am. With Brisbane now having 4 SQ flights some days there must be some pressure on the hotel to get the rooms ready. The concierge also said that Cathay Pacific and Eva stay at the Pullman.

I could see pilots sitting and talking with the cabin crew. Emirates used to stay at the Hilton in Brisbane (they now stay at Next) and when in the lobby bar you could see that there was no mixing between the pilots and the cabin crew.

I paid USD19.99 for WiFi aboard 831 PVG-SIN on Sat Apr 1 - what a disgrace - majority of 5hr journey it was just unusable. Senior Crew Member advised she is embarrassed that SQ still offer this WiFi service when most times it is unusable. IFS gladly added it into his flt report. I did indeed received a full refund and apology when I sent off email feedback.

Cruiser Elite - 100% agree on this. SQ needs to up their game - USD19.99 for 50MB these days is crazy. They don't even offer the whole flight unlimited option for SYD/MEL-SIN (please correct me if I am wrong...)

Has anyone ever had an issue where they start waitlisting all the flights (one flight per pax) for a particular day, and then suddenly about half way through all the saver waitlists disappear for that day.

Edit: worked it out - I must have maxed the waitlists for a particular segment. (DXB-SIN-SYD), DXB-SIN is now maxxed thus a search for DXB-SIN-SYD yields no waitlist results.

All heading off before Easter. Enjoy your flights - in my experience SQ are very helpful with little ones.

Yes. Anyway rules are rules and so will just have to suck it up and cancel my booking now.

I will be rebooking within about 2 months and so I want to get the points back and all sorted so that I can book when availability opens..

I am VERY sorry to be posting yet another points change question. I USED to think the change wasn't too bad, but the problem now is I'm looking at changing a J booking under the old system, to an F/R booking on the new.....

My partner just read that in October of this year, the SQ A380 SYD-SIN route will have the new suites.

April sees Singapore Airlines celebrate 50 years of flying to Australia, and is tipped to debut its newest Airbus A380 – fitted with next-generation first class suites and business class seats – on the Singapore-Sydney route in October 2017.

Now, I wanted to book F/R back in January when we booked our flights, but nooooooo, "lets save the points and just fly J"

Anywho, now with the changes in redemption, its a totally different game.

Does this sound right? As it is what I was just quoted on the phone with SQ.......

The point difference..:

SYD-SIN (stopever) SIN-DPS and return- in J - WAS = 93,500 + $669SGD each

To now change the booking, it would be 177,500 each person return to do SYD-SIN in R and SIN-DPS in J. (a difference of 84,000 points each less the YQ) OR

To do SYD-SIN in R, SIN-DPS in J, and DPS-SYD in J, it would be 155,500 points each (a difference of 62,000 points less the YQ)

Help.

Should be 80,000 points one way SYD-SIN-DPS as an F award. SIN-DPS will have to be J as no F cabin. Recent reports indicate some SQ call centre staff deem this to mean it has to be split into two awards, but that isn't correct (at least based on other posters experiences in this thread). Call again and try someone else.

The relevant section is in the Kris Flyer award chart which says:

• Singapore Airlines Suites and First Class are only available on selected SingaporeAirlines flights. SilkAir does not have a Suites/First Class cabin. Business Classseats will be allocated to members who redeem their miles for SingaporeAirlines Suites and/or First Class on Singapore Airlines flights which do not havea Singapore Airlines Suites/First Class cabin. The number of miles required forthe entire trip may be determined at the redemption level of the highest classof service flown. Please check the classes available on the flight before makinga redemption.

Although IIRC there was some discussion here on AFF that some SQ call centre staff no longer believe this exception applies, and the call may have to be escalated to a supervisor.

.

Just remember that this is only speculation at present and may or may not occur. So it is not will have, it is may have. There are a lot more Suites Routes than there will be planes with the new Suites fitted by then.

And with SYD next Jan there are 4 flights per day. Two currently have Suites. If SYD gains the new Suites will it be on both planes, or more likely just the one????

So SYD may gain a flight per day with the new Suites. Two would be less likely. Which flight would you choose?

With the difference in points, I'm choosing neither.

By August of this year, we need about 300K more points than our current balance to book SYD-LAX with SQ in some sort of mix of F/R and J in 2018. Even the 84K will make a difference in how we book the next trip so the other half will just have to suffer for 7 hours in J. ;)

sorry to rehash my question, however what would be the best method to book the following with KF points.

Sydney -> Singapore (2-3 night stop over) -> Delhi
Colombo -> Singapore (minimal transit) -> Sydney

Can't see to do multi-city when redeeming points, which means I can't add the "free stopover" that SQ offers

can it be done online myself? or by phone? will they charge extra over the phone?

Spotted a whole van of SQ crew unloading at Hilton Sydney tonight. Never knew this was their local hotel - they looked exhausted and switched off - not the usual image I'm used to of course! :)
