SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

They put a tag noting my flight and seat number then placed the bag in the are where duty manager sits during check in time.

I should note that was flying F and only had one bag.
SQ hospitality at its finest. Either that or overly expensive First Class LuggageStorage "valet service" that costs extra thousands of dollars (or discounted points) to redeem 🤣 🤣

SQ changed our seats on all four of our flights recently, only notifying us once. All whY redemptions for a family of 4 (2A, 2C), all seats selected at booking up to 5-8 months ago. Departure times brought forward 5mins for the SIN-KUL leg and 30mins and then again 10mins for the PEN-SIN leg.

BNE-SIN: selected 52C, received 69G
SIN-KUL: selected 47C, received 53H (this was the only one notified)
PEN-SIN: selected 51H, received 52K.
SIN-BNE: selected 49G, received 62G

Whilst we were not separated, the seats for the "long legs" were much further up the back and thus worse, especially for boarding and deplaning. I'll provide feedback as requested via the SQ email, mainly to suggest why bother with seat selection if it is not guaranteed and can be changed for any old reason.

This may have been avoided with online checkin but I don't usually bother with online checkin if I have access to priority checkin. As our outbound flight included a separate CBR-BNE leg, I did try the auto-checkin feature for the BNE-SIN leg. Printed off the bag tags and ended up using priority anyway. Not unrelated, they lost my golf clubs/bag between oversize luggage and SIN too but managed have it delivered to my accommodation the same night which avoided a missed tee time early the next day.

Also, I think they really need to make a distinction for benefits to SG and WP members, especially for lounge access. For eg, WP could use SKL or, better for my situation, WP can have more guests.

Apologies if this has been asked previously but how strict are SQ on bag drop opening 3hrs before departure at SYD? Later in the year I am on SQ202 departing 6:45am & the other two NoNames are on SQ212 departing 9:05am. Will there be any issues if they come and drop bags at the same time as me around 5am and then come through airside? All in premium cabins if that makes any difference.
NoName my experince is that I was able to check in for my midday flight from Sydney to Singapore travelling in R (redemption booking) in October 2017 before check in closed for the earlier flight at 8.00am. Arrived at the check in counter at around 7.30am or so and showed my R booking and asked if i could check in now and was told no problem. Luggage went on the belt and was not put to the side. Arrived in the First Class Lounge around 8.00am and there were other passangers who had done the same thing as they did not board the 9.00am flight.

Upon arrival in Singapore went to the Private Room (flight ended in Singapore) for about an hour. Upon arrival at the Private Room asked about my luggage and was told it would be looked after. When I went to collect my luggage an hour later a staff member was standing at the baggage carousel next to my luggage waiting for me to collect it!

HELP ! I have a few hundred thousand Krisflyer points expiring next month, not extendable because they have already been extended once ... and I can't find any flights to redeem them on. Where else can I transfer them?? ..Thinking it is better to retain some value somewhere, rather than complete loss.

What flights/routes are you trying? Availability shouldn't be a problem over the next 12 months.

Either transfer to Velocity or use them on Y class flights as there is usually very easy-to-find redemption opportunities (if you can cope with Y).

Question for the KF brainstrust.....
I will have a large swag of KF miles due to expire next June 2025....
I am thinking about strategies to not loose them....I have read the PPS club member's miles do not expire..my question is does this apply to the miles already accrued or only applies to new miles earned whilst PPS member...I would try for PPS by say May 2025 if this would give me a longer lifeline for old miles ??? have tried Kris flyer online chat and call centre by phone, but not able to get answers...
Thanks in advance....

Keen to hear AFF experiences with overnight stays in the Private Room/SIN F lounge...

Travelling solo in September with a 12h layover between Suites inbound (9:20pm) and F outbound (9:40am). I understand the Private Room has nap rooms (with windows 👀) and they're unavailable 2:30am-5:30am, but otherwise I should have access to a bed and showers before/after that. I've also read the nap rooms are limited to 2 hours, but you can stay longer if there's no one waiting.

All the airport hotels are a bit more expensive than I'd expected - am I missing any?
Aerotel $253
Crowne Plaza $358 (or 35k points)
Ambassador $293
Yotel $321

If a hotel stay is the best way forward, at those prices I may as well stay in the city and head over to Lau Pa Sat for some late-night satay...

At 9:20pm you should have little issue getting one of the cubicles in the Business nap room, although they are not lay flat - generally no chance at 2:30am should you migrate.

More on those here:

All the satay i've got from Spore is from Toastbox. And of course SKL. Other thing i tried is the three sergeant chook rice and a non name chook rice from foodrepublic. hawker chan i can get here in aus. Am I missing anything?🤣🤣
Also crowne plaza seems better than the aerotel for the same "price" since i value my points at .8 cents. redeemed them for a stay at ihg bondii for 20000 pts so 35k pts doesnt seem too bad especially if there is no NETT charge and especially if im not the one redeeming it 🤣 🤣

FWIW, at 35K points, the Crowne Plaza is $267 (IHG points can be semi-regularly bought for USD0.5c/pt).

I had a similar layover last year. The First Lounge also has nap rooms, with the advantage that it doesn't close overnight. 2 hour limit on rooms also, but again you aren't evicted unless someone else wants it.

I'd use it for sleeping, and The Private Room for eating, drinking, showering.

I had the option of staying at Pullman Orchard Road for $200 AUD with lounge access as plat but still chose to tough it out like a man at the SKL (gold lounge) for a 10am flight the next day. It was a tough battle but I survived to tell the tale🤣🤣
I'm sure you'll survive too considering you get extra protection (first lounge access+the private room as extra booster+nap room). Back in the old days...👵👵

Glad to know that the 20,000 pts I burned on a rando IHG bondii room will never recover again 😭 😭 side note: I have never enjoyed my stay at any ihg branded property even though the quality of the room is on par with the other hotels for the same price range. have yet to try the crowne or IC can't wait to burn my points on those

Never heard of Lao Pa Sat although been to Spore for three times and stayed at Circuular Quay for a day. Most singaporean i got was ToastBox (always ordered THE laksa out of all dishes), 3sergeant chook rice, mr coconut's coconut smoothie, and hawker chan (melb). Give or take one rando rice stall at Tuas Link and one or two other rando poultry rice dishes at NUS. Never realised how much I'm missing out on.
