St George Amplify Signature Card 60,000 Qantas/Amplify points - Annual fee $279

Not needing this card for spend or would probably not use the lounge passes so I am only after the Qantas points. Applied for the Amplify Platinum as the 40,000 for $99 made it a cheaper points deal.

Tentatively approved instantly but had to send in pay slips.

Found out that the no annual fee promo for existing customers (everyday banking = code EB) expired, so maybe not something you'd want to drop the annual fee for....

Card approved and now in a dispute with rewards team over eligible spend for bonus points.

Read the important points on the sign up page and there was no mention of government spend not counting towards minimum spend of $3000 required to generate the bonus points.

It does say the Government spend does not receive amplify points in the full T&C's and I am not disputing that. After many different answers ( none of which could show me where in any T&C's it was stated that gov spend could not be used toward the minimum) they now have promised to call me back with an answer tomorrow as to why it does not count.

I feel some extra points will be coming my way for the misleading conditions on the application process.

^was that ATO or something else?
No. Just council rates. They have agreed after many calls that there are no T&C's that state that government spend doesn't count towards bonus pts despite what they originally stated over and over again. They now are saying that I can't pay my rates because I use bpay which is excluded by the T&C's. My council uses Bpoint and there is no mention of it. In fact the phone rep had never heard of it.

For reference I paid council rates through PP and got the bonus pts in with first statement of the card

I got my card and activated on 12th Sep or so, paid my tax bill which was more than the $3k min spend. I received QFF points for what I spent (paying tax return) but no bonus points yet. I rang St George twice now (general banking now Amplify team as they dont work on weekends) and on both ocassions they said that yes I met the min spending and should get the bonus points soon. Hmm... I think I’ll ring the amplify card team seeing what others are saying about government spending and points but then again why would i get the qff points for my tax bill already? Strange

You should put everything in writing. Indicate clearly what you want to happen and the repercussions if it does not happen. Phone calls, in my experience, usually get you no where.

It took the full time to get my 60k, I think on the 4th statement. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Why would you bother contacting them when it has not even come close to the 12 week period?

"Points will be credited to your account within 12 weeks of eligible spend criteria being met"

The terms are quite clear. Just because some may report different times for receiving the bonus would indicate that all accounts are not treated equally and there is likely some form of sweep. Maybe this could be a lesson in playing the game.

Has anyone gone through retentions and was offered reduced annual fee to stay on 2nd year?
I've put through about 12k per month and I've gone through with cancelling the card and was offered nothing to stay.

Has anyone found a decent replacement with krisflyer earn rate close to this?
I've got virgin's card at the moment which I was planning to dump after the bonus' kicked in.

Had a call from their rep yesterday. They agreed that the T&C's were not clear and as a goodwill they will pay me the 40,000 bonus points immediately without the need to meet minimum spend. I will save my rates bill for another card. Excellent result in the end.

A little too late, however were you proactive in saying that you did not want to pay the annual fee for the next year?

Otherwise consider:
ANZ Rewards Black Visa - transfer through Velocity to get 1/1.35 = 0.74 KF miles per dollar. This is only for the first $5k per month; the earn rate halves above 5k. Not much value in spending more than 5k per month on this card.
If you go directly to KF, the rate is 0.66 KF miles per dollar.

Westpac Altitude Black MC is 0.5 KF miles per dollar and Amex is 1 KF mile per dollar, uncapped and at full earn.
Altitude Platinum has a lower earn rate and lower monthly cap.
