Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Captured what info I could from the (painful) call. Made the booking for 2 x pax but this is the breakdown for 1 pax for ease of viewing.

Month booked | Month travelled | Cabin | Route | Points cost | Co-pay* | Classic co-pay~ | Max points cost~ | SCs earned

Dec13 | Apr14 | J | SYD-BKK | 60,000 | $410.10 | $297.18 | 60,000 | 120

P.S
After the 1st call to get it booked on 2nd Jan, I then called back today after seeing a post on calling back to ensure it is actually ticketed, I just did that. The operator emailed the ticket to me then.

But I had to have a little 'fight' to try to get my 2 x award assistance fees refunded. The lady kept assuring me that it should be charged. I then asked her to ref the Q card. She read it. Then said something like "the website has changed since the the card was created and it can be done online" ... I explained no it couldn't bla bla bla. "oh yes that is only for international" ... to which I explained it also applies to domestic. She said no it didn't, I said yes it did (around in circles we went). She then said she wanted to try herself. And so we wasted more time on the phone. I was patient and friendly (thinking to myself if we can educate another operator it will be easier for the next caller).

She then said something like "oh that is only for a specific booking classes and most people just want to book a Classic award". She then went away and consulted a supervisor. When she returned, she noted I'd have to be put back on hold as she would get the points refunded. 20 mins later (from start of call), she returns and explains that the freq. flyer centre is closed and she'll try tomorrow to have it refunded.

For the love of all that is mighty ... 22 mins to try and get the 2 x 6k points refunded and it still goes on.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Phoned the 1300 number, got Mandy. Said I wanted to booked an ASA into U class and asked whether she was familiar with the procedure. Answer "yes". Sweeeet, thinks me :D.

5 minutes from go to whoa for the booking :D:

Jan14 | June14 | J | SYD-JNB-SYD | 273,742 | $0* | ? | *| 320

*a classic J award was 168,000 points. Mandy asked if I wanted to play $$ vs. points but I opted to do it all on points.

I was all psyched up for some messing about but it could not have been simpler. I guess I was a bit taken aback after reading of some others' experiences. Maybe I could have spent a bit more time playing with points vs. $$ as there may be an optimal spot somewhere in the middle - but I'm happy.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Just did another one. Domestic this time.

Sandra answers; says "yes" when I ask whether she's familiar with the procedure.

Opted for all points again; all done in a little over 5 minutes again.

Jan14 | June 14 | J | PER-SYD-PER | 118,903 | $0* | $458.90* | * | 160^

*Classic J was 72,000 points + $82.10 so the mASA could have been 72,000 points + $458.90. Thus 46,903 points (c. $469 equivalent at 1 cent/point - so taxes and charges only return base value on the points. At present, $$ have more utility for me than points, but overarching all of this is that these recent bookings will ensure I reach Additional Platinum Privileges again this FF year and so I can opt to take the bonus 50,000 points and regain some value there.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

My First ASA and all done in 10 mins. Very happy!

Jan 14 | Jan 14 | J | SYD-MEL | 16,000 | $111.65 | 40 SCs

Jan14 | Dec14 | J | MEL-LHR | 128,000 | $679.52 | 240 SCs

Less than seven minutes, all went smoothly. Fare fully refundable.

(Could we get the second 'c' in "Successful" in the title of this thread before it drives me even crazier?)

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

I booked the following for myself and SWMBO:

Dec 13 | Dec 14 | J | SYD-LHR | 256,000 | $1431.18 | 240 SC

Could not get our preferred date. I booked 1 day earlier than our preferred date as there was availability with a view to changing to the following day but award availability for our preferred day never appeared unless someone on here beat me to the punch and was in very quick. Will have to start keeping my eyes open for Jan 15 returns next weekend.

No issues with the call centre, booked inside 10 minutes. That's 4 from 4 JASA (2 x Dom, 2 x Int) for me without issue - it's easy! :)

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

The spreadsheet has been updated to this post.

Please use the following format:

Month booked | Month travelled | Cabin | Route | Points cost | Co-pay* | Classic co-pay~ | Max points cost~ | SCs earned
e.g. Jan 14 | Apr 14 | J | MEL-SYD | 16,000 | $111.65 + CC fee | ? | ? | 40

* Indicate if CC fee included
~ If known

Please PM me any suggestions you have to improve it, to save this thread becoming distracted from its intended purpose.

This is the link to the Google Docs spreadsheet
which is able to be viewed by all (but not edited, to maintain consistency).

No other information is to be posted, please use the other threads for this, just keep this thread to factual information only*

Any discussion about ASAs can occur here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....m/confirmed-qf-removing-cheap-asas-48705.html

And here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....rogram/has-anyone-had-success-call-51720.html

I have had to discontinue putting the post number in the spreadsheet, as there has been so much superfluous chatter that belongs elsewhere. TBH it is a real PITA to wade though the extra discussion.

Jess.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Jan 14 | Nov 14 | Z (a) + X (b) | LAXa - SYDb - MELB | 195,368 | $981.03 + CC fees ($1041.02 total) | Unknown | n/a | 100 SC

Facts: Finally booked ASA (verified / showing) from LAX to Melb. This is a combined ASA booking of Z (Premium economy) from LAX to Syd, then X (General Economy) from Sydney to Melb.

No "hidden fees" in making the phone booking (excluding not being told of the $60 cc charge, thinking did they just do the assistance fee), with everything showing up online and emailed, as well as seats chosen.

Next to some words I have in tiny writing, a + b in red. This is to say what class / location each flight was booked as.

Hope it helps that I made a mixed ASA award booking.

Jan 14 | Mar 14 | FIRST P | SYD-DXB-SYD | 288,000 | $992.55 + CC fee $30 | ? | ? | 540

Originally my partner had a Classic award for SYD-LCA in First then LCA-SYD in Business for a cost of 280,000 points plus $732. After reading about the xASA's and finding a First seat for the return trip I thought it might be worthwhile trying a FASA + Partner Award (changing the Business flight to First would have cost an additional 56000 points and $80). It took three phone calls and some confusion from both ends, but eventually cancelled the Class award and with the aid of a supervisor a successful booking was made - the above FASA and a Partner Award for DXB-LCA-DXB in Economy linked to the FASA for an extra 32000 points and $66 copay. My partner didn't have enough points to book the DXB-LCA trip in Business or First but the SYD-DXB-SYD trips will make up for the short economy flights.

The bonus is my partner will now make WP with the 540 Status Credits.

A big thanks to all contributors to the forum, I wouldn't have know about xASA's or attempted to book the above flight without your excellent advice.

(was surprised that the agent let me pay as little as 16k points as the classic award booked via the web using the same route costs 24k points + taxes)

Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Our inbound trip from Blighy booked for SWMBO and I after the outbound JASA's previously posted:

Jan 14 | Jan 15 | J | LHR-DXB(24 hours)-SYD | 256,000 | $2358.58 inc CC fee | ? | ? | 280

I was hoping for a departure from LHR a day or two earlier but there didn't appear to be Classic Award availability released, maybe due to the peak after New Year? We can now only squeeze in a 24 hour stop in DXB on the way back instead of 48 hours or 72 hours as hoped so we will just have to make the most of it.

That's a 512k point hit to SWMBO's account in the last 2 weeks, ouch, although the bookings do earn us just over 100k back! :)

No booking issues, lady on the phone knew I was after points and was SC's and processed in 10 minutes!

Just need to mention that the below ASA booking was for 2 people.

For ease of use could I suggest the above is divided by 2.
