The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

I think you'll find that news is 3 months old, not quite the same demand for hospitality staff when major cities are locked down and no one can travel.

I think you will find that it has been posted many times that of course when a city locks down there is a temporary blip but overall there is a massive shortage for numerous reasons and as soon as the lockdown lifts they return, even more severely.

In the Vic Presser today available slots that can be booked over the next week is 50,000 in the State Hubs.

2 days ago at the presser it was 80,000. That was also when another 40/50K of Pfizer of doses was added in as able to be booked.

So in the last 2 days that is an extra 30K booked above the normal background rate. Most likely the majority of that would be from the extra Pfizer that was added into the system this week.

Anyone that is 40-59 and wanting to get Pfizer should book now. When appointments open up to 16-39 year olds one would anticipate there will be a period of time where appointments will become much harder to get.

Sure but the article was about Melbourne. Apples/oranges.
And the original post discussing shortage of staff was mine yesterday in SA.

And to do that you might need to make an error on age which won’t be an issue as long as appointment is after the opening date. Unless of course you live in SA where it’s already open slather.

10,000 Victorians are cancelling their vaccine appointments every day. Surely they can't all be sick and unable to get vaccinated because of that.

People need to book and stick to their appointments (unless perhaps they can get it significantly sooner elsewhere and cancel in plenty of time for others to take over their appointments).

Well, I had a couple of appointments booked and then cancelled when something earlier came up so might not be as bad as it sounds.

Perhaps its a sign of the Astra Zeneca to Pfizer migration......it could be anything, but given the amount its not good news.

Not sure how logically it could make people more hesitant for example.

There’s apparently tonnes of walk ins happening so hopefully they pick up the slack! I also know of people cancelling their appt (hub) to go to a more convenient pharmac_.

A very big risk to any opening up

Near-perfect forgeries of the federal government's COVID-19 vaccine digital certificate can be made in 10 minutes using free software, a member of the public has discovered.

Richard Nelson, a software engineer in Sydney, has found an "obvious" security flaw in the Express Plus Medicare app allowing him to make vaccine certificates with any name and date of birth and featuring the background animations meant to prevent forgery.

The Prime Minister has previously said the certificates are a "credible and effective" way for states to administer exemptions from aspects of lockdowns.

The discovery of the flaw could put a hold on state and federal governments allowing the vaccinated more freedoms.

Mr Nelson found the security hole in the current system (which was launched more than two months ago) while mucking around with the Express Plus Medicare app one evening last week.

Yes belatedly the Commonwealth has now started opening up Pharmacies in Vic. Plus also many more GP's have been added

So given most AZ in Vic is still had on a 12 week schedule many who had their first dose at a State Hub, may well be using a GP or pharmac_ for a second dose.

One of my sisters had her first dose of AZ down on the Mornington Peninsula, but as she in Melbourne now she had her second dose at a pharmac_ last week.

Tasmania has started its six week vaccination blitz

There's no presser on the horizon for Tasmania today and no cases of COVID-19 were recorded to 6pm last night.

Tasmanian college students have begun receiving the COVID-19 vaccine as part of the state government's six week vaccination blitz.

Year 11 and 12 students at Hobart's Elizabeth College are the first to be vaccinated, with six nurse immunisers on-site until Wednesday.

The schools program will move to other public colleges in the south in the coming weeks, before progressing to the state's north and north-west.

Students have been encouraged to discuss the vaccine with their parents or guardians before getting the jab.

The 50+ age group has gone past 75% (75.13%) with a first dose.

65-69 is at 39.5% for fully vaccinated and 55-59 is at 39.2% for fully vaccinated. We are getting very close to the first under 70 age groups reaching half way to the 80% target.

SA 50+ fully vaccinated should go past 40% when today's numbers are released tomorrow, the last state or territory to do so.

NSW and ACT are getting close to reaching 60% with a first dose for 16+ and may achieve that as soon as when today's numbers are released tomorrow, or if not the day after.

That's the thing, it is just a webpage that can be forged by anybody with a PC and time and some ability. Old fashioned paper much harder.

My impression was that the pre-flight PCR tests conducted in India previously were paper and the rumour/suggestion was that many were fraudulent and/or poor quality tests.

With COVID vax being much more high value - its a different proposition to say getting a fraudulent yellow fever vax certificate.

Im sure a big portion of that is 16-39s who booked for AZ but now realise they can get Pfizer from next week, so are cancelling and waiting to grab one of the many currently available Pfizer jabs when the systems opens to them later this week. Your Premier keeps pruiking how many Pfizer slots are available every day.

Same thing happened when 50-59s could access Pfizer, huge number of AZ cancellations, then replaced by Pfizer in the following few weeks.

There are nowhere near enough Pfizer appointments though to vaccinate 16-39 year olds imminently. Those who don't get in quickly will find they are still waiting perhaps several weeks to get their first jab.

If they have an AZ appointment they should stick to it.
