Re: The Lounge 1stAug - changes to access and pricing (including Priority Pass Access

Interesting to see that US will no longer be part of PP in Australia from 1st October 2011. Meaning that Priority Pass has absoutley no presence in Australia anymore!

It does not apply to normal PP Card holders just PP Select Card holders:

So it looks like they still have an Mel international lounge.

Maybe they will join with REX to regain domestic Oz lounges? The Finger Print scanner for entry sounds cool.

Can VA really justify such a signficant increase in membership fees when in actual fact the network hasn't really expanded?

If I was to join it would be $280, then a $420 yearly fee - $700!! (using the 'new' pricing) - although current pricing isn't much better

I understand lounges are a 'premium' product for a certain individual, but seriously, $700 for access to 6 domestic lounges!! Whilst the QP might have its flaws, fees (through my corporate association) are reasonable for a product with relatively good international and domestic coverage, to fit with my travel plans

I know NZ is coming on board soon, but what about the likes of DL, SQ, VS?

I like Virgin and the product, but is such a cost justifable for the poor coverage granted through membership? Hopefully an AFF corporate scheme is in the pipeline

Re: The Lounge 1stAug - changes to access and pricing (including Priority Pass Access

I think Virgin should finish rolling out their new cabins and proposed lounges/updated lounges before moving to premium pricing, which is how it appears. As far as the new lounge T&C's go, children under 12 should be banned. Lounges are for business travel not private club crèches.

Apologies for any confusion on this.
We removed the web reference to the end of the Priority Pass access at the request of, and as a courtesy to PP.
As Markis10 mentioned, it was a contractual agreement, hence wasn't part of our T&C's.

We do have the very best of intentions in keeping the community informed as best we can!

I'll bet anything that both my children under 12 are better behaved then you.

Besides where do the T&C for The Lounge say it is for business travel only? Am I allowed to use The Lounge when I fly to watch my sporting team play? Should I have not used the lounge 2 weeks ago when I flew to BNE for my grandmother's funeral? All non business related travel.

Well it looks like the fees for the lounge may increase further still, especially since Virgin Australia may need to buy a new toaster for the MEL lounge after Misha managed to set the current one on fire this morning

The current one did have a sign on it saying no sandwiches - which I was sorely tempted to ignore in a the quest for a grilled cheese sandwich!

Oh,the really little one that says 'Sorry, I can't toast sandwiches' ;)

I actually don't see what the big deal is. I have referred to this in previous posts- but I think the old rates were far too cheap. Particularly when you look at the rebranded product offering, $30/$35 is a steal and most would have their money's worth in food and booze within the hour.

The concept of the Virgin Lounge is that it is a sanctuary. A little haven within that horrible terminal (particularly in MEL) where you can have some peace and quiet - and avoid the crowds. Now, whether you have earned that through Status Credits, or paid a premium for it - if it became too accessible, then it loses that purposes and you will find as many people in the Lounge as you do in the terminals - and then Virgin will be copping all of our complaints - we'd say "increase the price and keep them out" - they are pre-empting this. Often, the best way to show the value of something is to up the price - not lower it ;)

Humphf!

I'm sure there's some sort of breach of the telecommunications act, there. ;)

I don't think Liam has to worry about any follow-ups from the authorities... but he will have to deal with me for that little doozy....

Come clear. Who did what to the Toaster? And after how many Reds?

which I was sorely tempted to ignore in a the quest for a grilled cheese sandwich!

You're not the only one that has been tempted by this on a cold winter's morning ;)

Don't want to take this further off topic but may I point out it was breakfast and I had consumed no wine at all... also I wasn't toasting a sandwich! :)

As a side note, whilst jdevereux and I sat having breakfast the VA/DJ pr crew were there photographing pics of the various food options. Flexible meals and fresh food (the pumpkin soup next to the red pepper mill is a shot I'll be looking out for) from the lounge, presumably for Voyeur or Menus/website or other marketing exercise.

A lot of food photography is done with non-edible ingredients, glue and paints so I'm happy to confirm the VA shots will be of the real deal...

If you happen to see either a plume of smoke in the shots, or a burnt croissant - don't blame them: my bad ;)

You guys are full of good ideas!
We love our toasties / grills as much as you do so will be trialling sandwich presses in SYD lounge later this week. If all goes well, all lounges will soon have sandwich presses. :)

Where do I send the invoice for the consultants fee LOL. In all seriousness, yet another example of Virign listening to feedback on AFF!

Great!! You do realise you'll have to ban Misha until further notice as a safety precaution. ;)

On a topic related (at least a bit) to this thread: Has anyone heard any update on when the new BNE lounge will open? I'm getting a bit sick of the temporary shoebox...

The site says the refurb continues throughout May and June - the end of this timetable is very quickly approaching...
