The Master SQ Guide (Krisflyer, Waitlists & Waitlists Clearing)

Anyone know what blackout dates Krisflyer runs for premium redemptions Europe->Australia?

I've been checking and Krisflyer seems to have a blanket waitlist running from June 26 2024. I imagine that's europe high season?

Australia's + Singapore's high season to Europe as well. I just took MXP-SIN on J and at least half of the J passengers were holding Australian passports.

Yep that makes sense. When do you think the blanket waitlist for high season will end? I'm flying back in early august so hoping to book a flight around then

Trying to book MEL-SIN-LHR shows as available, but then just puts me on the waitlist once I go past the passport page :(

Any ideas ?

Trying to book 1 x saver award for Mel-Sin in F for literally any day in April / May / early June 2024 but not seeing any availability at all. Never seen it this empty before and I've looked on Expertflyer and heaps of the days still have all four seats available (777).
Any chance of additional seats being released later?

From what I have seen recently, saver F seats have only been released on one of the daily flights (SQ208) and advantage F seats only released on two of the flights (SQ208 and SQ228). Not sure either whether the saver Fs are going straight to waitlist.

I was a bit disappointed when I booked flights a few days ago and had to go for J. But actually I am not convinced that J is very much different on a day flight - similar seat, almost identical food, identical non-alcoholic drinks and I wouldn't use the MEL lounge anyway. Plus I get to go on a flight that leaves when I want and arrives when the MRT would still be operating. I will, of course, miss out on some polyester blend pyjamas.

We have had a couple of J waitlist for Dec 23 clear this morning. These were waitlisted during Jan 23. Also made a few other bookings for FY24, looks like Ex Mel and SYD to SIN are mostly waitlisted (even Advantage), but onward destinations from SIN seems to have availability. BTW also released a few ( 6 reservations) for Dec 23 back into whatever pool they have for end of the year.

i am looking at mid july and the same.
but SIN>LHR is fine, its BNE>SIN thats all waitlisted for Saver

just for my education, how are people using/setting up there wait lists?
ive done it twice, once it never cleared, the other time I booked both a F and J for the same flight and was wait listing F, and it came through, so i had to pay the $25 fee, and since it was the same flight, it was no big deal

like for this example, confirming one leg and wait listing the other leg would be very inconvenient/bordering pointless if it didnt clear

You could book in advantage and waitlist for saver. You could book saver from another airport and waitlist for BNE. You could waitlist and just not travel if it doesn't clear. There are options, so be creative - but not every option would work for every scenario.

Do you need to have enough points for both the advange plus the saver? Or when the saver clears can you cancel the advantage booking and use those points for the saver?

I don't know. I have only ever had one waitlist cleared - pre Covid - and that was a like for like booking with a different flight time and no further points changed hands. But it might be different if there is a change in route. If they take new points and refund the old ones you would have to be careful about points expiry dates even if you did have enough points in the bank to cover both itineraries. I guess you could waitlist and start asking questions if the waitlist ever clears.

I had a look online and it seems that refunded points can take 2-3 months to be depositied. I think what you describe probably won't work unless you have enough points for both tickets.

Good points. Didnt think about the other carrier options

Edit: almost forgot, if your points are expiring soon, wait list wouldnt work either 🫡

SQ238 is now also available on F for some dates.
Booked MEL-SIN-HKG with the second leg in suites for 97k. Very happy.

Question for the experts please,
trying to book 2 x oneway, J from Japan to Melb in May 2024

If I search for 1 pax, on a random bunch of days literally every flight of the day is avaialbe in saver and advantage

but when I do 2 x pax, virtually all saver columns disappear while advantage is aviable everywhere

does this mean, its only 1 seat per flight available or the system doesnt want me to book 2 pax at the same time.
ie can I/should I do separate bookings?

They sometimes only release 1 saver. Take that one and then search again and book the second person as advantage. Other option is to travel on separate flights or days to your partner.
I always search for 1 pax 1st as searching for 2 will not indicate if there is a cheaper saver flight for at least one passenger.

That sounds like one seat per flight. If you book once in Saver hoping for a further booking to get second seats you will have to get the second ones in Advantage - but you might be able to waitlisted them for Saver.

great idea!
unfortuantely due to expiring miles, wait list isnt going to work

if its only 1 seat per flight and ibook in saver, is there a huge risk that a 2nd seat even in advantage wont be availalble?
